Modern subject is interested in studying his or her identity, however this act of examination nullifies its object: showing it as problematical or even non-existent, impossible to maintain as coherent entity. As time passes, the problem radicalizes itself, as it is shown in the works of theoreticians of ‘late modernity’: identity is often treated as a project, non-conclusive process of seeking the optimal states of well-being. As the various ‘identity crises’ go on, it is stated in various ways, that even subjectivity itself is waning. Maybe focusing on individual, as someone who has particular identity is not the best way of entangling this knot of problems. Interesting inspirations come from psychoanalysis. Firstly, psychoanalytical theory shows us, that individual with particular traits is not the same, as subject, and that subject is always-already ‘deconstructed’, divided. Secondly, problems with identity may be elucidated, when we turn to psychoanalytical theories of identification. In fact, what we often call ‘identities’ is better to be understood as partial and even theatrical identification with some content. The article shows how certain concepts of Freud and Lacan can be used to clarify complex or even obscure problems that haunt the notion of ‘identity’ as a source of meaning, used by social sciences. Using the life story method first introduced in The Polish Peasant, this paper analyzes the life story of a „Solidarity” refugee, positioning the subjective standpoint at the center of analysis and interpreting social action as both agentic and responsive to objective conditions. The ontological narrative in his life story is plotted through a professional schema. He defined the turning points in his life as intentionally driven by his motivation to be an organizational psychologist: his opposition within the communist system; the reason for his internment during martial law; the choice of where to emigrate; and the decision to return to Poland. He constructed a coherent narrative defined by volitional reactions to changing situations. In the life story method, subjective perceptions encode objective conditions allowing us to analyze the interactions between the self and society. The subject of the article is a reflection on the significance of the study Polish Peasant in Europe and America by W.I. Thomas and F. Znaniecki as a canonical text in the field of qualitative and, especially, biographical research. Referring to the criticism carried out by Herbert Blumer in 1939, it is an attempt to present to what extent the critical arguments remain valid nowadays and to what extent they can be verified by taking into account the contemporary state of the biographical method. The aim of the text is also to show the tension between the pioneering contribution of the authors to social research and the declarations contained in the Methodological Note and their implementation concerning the empirical material, namely the Memoirs of an Immigrant (Władek Wiśniewski) published in Volume III. AbstractThis paper deals with perceptions, encounters and experiences of children with refugees and refugee children in Germany. It is based on the Fourth World Vision Children Study, which is regularly conducted in Germany since 2007. The study is based on a representative survey among 6- to 11-year-old children, which was combined with qualitative case studies and focuses on children´s well-being, their fears, their concerns as well as their attitudes toward other societal groups and contemporary political issues. For the survey of the Fourth World Vision Children Study, in the questionnaire there were also items included which should allow collecting data on children´s encounters and experiences with refugees, and particularly refugees who are their peers. This paper presents the approach taken in the study and how it is embedded conceptually in childhood studies before reporting and discussing selected findings on the experiences of children in Germany with refugees in their neighbourhood and among their peers. The findings presented in this paper refer to contact as well as interactions and opportunities for establishing friendships between refugee and non-refugee children. This is followed by a discussion of the implications these findings have in terms of consequences for supporting refugee children when arriving at Germany. In the conclusion, we will finally point out the implications of our study for the broader field of childhood studies in social sciences.

Unlike sonographic examinations, sonic fetal heartbeat monitoring has received relatively little attention from scholars in the social sciences. Using the case of fetal heartbeat monitoring as part of midwifery prenatal care in Germany, this contribution introduces music as an analytical tool for exploring the aesthetic dimensions of obstetrical surveillance practices. Based on ethnographic stories, three orchestrations are compared in which three different instruments help audiences to listen to what becomes fetal heartbeat music and to qualify fetal and pregnant lives in relation to each other. In the Doppler-based orchestration, audible heartbeat music is taken as a sign of a child in need of parental love and care cultivated to listen. The Pinard horn makes esoteric fetal music that can be appreciated by the midwife as a skilled instrumentalist alone and helps to enact a child hidden in the belly. The cardiotocograph brings about soothing music and a reassuring relationship with a child but also durable scripts of juridical beauty. This material-semiotic analysis amplifies how well-being is shaped in midwifery prenatal care practices.

The essence of social sciences is well encompassed in Green’s (2006) quote “People were created to be loved. Things were created to be used. The reason why the world is in chaos is because things are being loved and people are being used. ” For this reason, social sciences are important, as major research paradigm on how and why individuals interrelate. The aim of the actual research is to look for a conceptual approach activity, as part of a larger project focused on individual rehabilitation. The brain is trained to react to the stimulus and command a behavior. The premise, for the considered approach, is understanding the social sciences as revealing the individuals interests for self conscience, well being and moral values and drawing the line to it’s importance for governments authorities, policymakers or NGO’s.

The present article is devoted to the problems of inclusion in modern Ukrainian society. The concept and essence of inclusion are studied from the point of view of the theory of social comprehension (of the essence of inclusive group), dynamics of social structure and social interactions. The inclusion is divided into social and educational forms according to the modern approaches to considering types of inclusion. The main forms of inclusion are analyzed from the point of view of pedagogical and social sciences. Special attention is given to the social inclusion in modern Ukrainian society. The comparative analysis of the categories «integration» and «inclusion» is carried out and the main common and distinctive features of these categories are determined in the article. It is said that social inclusion can be analyzed only in context of social exclusion, because they are both parts of the same social process. The potential of such further analysis are researched. The peculiarities of the process of social inclusion in modern Ukrainian society are analyzed. The main characteristics of social inclusion are described in the article on the basis of analysis of modern scientific literature. Special attention is given to the social inclusion in social work and social science. From the point of view of socio-pedagogical science social inclusion is analyzed as democratic action about comprehension somebody or the whole social group into some activity or cultural process. Social inclusion in modern Ukrainian society becomes social mechanism, some kind of an instrument, aimed at overcoming the barriers and constraints on the path to social well-being, which radically changes the existing state social politics. The results of the research are used in the social work, pedagogical and social sciences.

The topic of human resource management is considered to be one of the most ancient in the domain of social sciences and different issues have been widely addressed by the time. However, society and markets evolution and the rise of new organizational forms invite new problems, as well as new perspectives on how to manage people at work. This chapter will deal with how the role of HRM has evolved in post-bureaucratic organizations and what can be done to sustain different people's motivation and engagement. Post-bureaucratic organizations may require a new human resource philosophy and the reconsideration of human resource management practices in order to guarantee employees' well-being, dignity together with organizational success.
