This chapter presents challenges in China's governance outlook within a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) analysis of China's social, environmental and economic resources and potential impacts in other countries. The purpose of this article sheds light of how CSR in China is emerging as a doorway to a) promote understanding of changes in firm governance for general managers through state and corporate socially responsible practices and b) to explain that preserving the environment and preventing pollution is necessary if China would like to trade with the West and enter global markets with other countries that place importance of governance and CSR principles.

In the West, the concept of Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) began in the 1970s and discussions on the concept of CSR often centred on the view that is based on the customs, cultures and beliefs of the West, especially Europe and America. Under the common law, CSR is an option for the corporations to practice rather than part of the objective of the company. It is treated merely as a standard of behaviour to which a corporation subscribes in order to have good reputation in society. Under Shariah governance framework, it is a requirement for corporation to practice CSR as it is obligatory on each Muslim community to implement collective religious obligation (fardh kifayah). The Shariah perspective of CSR is commonly discussed from the perspectives of Maqasid al-Shari‘ah and Maslahah. This paper discusses the principles of Corporate social responsibility in corporate governance under both the Common law and Shariah perspectives. Main objective of this paper is to highlight the application of Corporate social responsibilty in conventional companies and Shariah compliance businesses. Findings of this paper will shows that,  the application of CSR according to Shariah perspective would contribute to a good corporate governance in businesses and the implementation of the concept of CSR implies the commitment of the corporation to continuously  upholding the noble objectives of Shari‘ah.

This chapter explains why Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is not widespread in some of countries, such as China, and how little effort towards CSR can create problems regarding a country's ability to trade with other countries that have national CSR policies and regulations. The chapter shows the strengths of organizations through the point of view of ethical social responsibility that actualizes itself in CSR. There is no doubt that the contribution to a community regarding the community's social, economic, and natural environment is impacted by different factors. A community is impacted by national policies as well as by the social perspectives and practices that exist in that nation. This chapter highlights the need to revive ethical values in the fields of society, economics, and the natural environment in correlation with the social and cultural norms in each given country.
