Mycosis fungoides (MF), the most common type of cutaneous T-cell lymphomas, generally has a favorable clinical course. Early MF typically presents erythematous patches and/or plaques and lasts for many years without affecting the life expectancy. Only limited cases progress to develop skin tumors, with subsequent lymph nodes and rarely visceral organ involvement. One of the clinical problems in early MF is the difficulty in differentiating the disease from benign inflammatory disorders (BIDs), such as atopic dermatitis, chronic eczema, and psoriasis. In some MF cases, clinical and pathological findings are similar to those of BIDs. However, the accurate diagnosis of early MF is quite important, as inappropriate treatment including immunosuppressants can cause unfavorable or even fatal outcomes. This article focuses on general methods and novel tools for diagnosis of early MF.

Aim. To study the clinical problems and develop the symptomatology of the foreign bodies (FB) of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). Materials and methods. Ninety patients with GIT foreign bodies were observed over the period from 1997 to 2017. To diagnose, a complex of endoscopic and radial methods was used. Localization, size and type of the detected foreign bodies were compared with the symptoms revealed. Results. Fifty patients intentionally swallowed foreign bodies, 40 – accidentally. Altogether, 90 patients swallowed 193 items (nails, needles, pieces of wire etc.). On the basis of the study, three forms of clinical course regarding the swallowed GIT FB were singled out: latent, manifest and complicated. The pathognomonic symptoms of GIT FB are “migrant” abdominal pains associated with migration of FB along the GIT lumen, intensification of pains while moving, exercise stress and palpation, feeling of “heaviness” in epigastric region. Multiple gastric FB cause the auscultative symptom of “ringing”. Pains, available with GIT FB, are not connected with taking food and are not ceased after taking antacids. Conclusions. Introduction of the developed GIT FB symptomatology into healthcare practice and training of physicians will contribute to earlier and more accurate diagnosis.

Purpose. To identify the clinical course of the «risk-forms» of peripheral vitreochorioretinal dystrophy (PVCRD) depending on sex, age, type and degree of refraction in children, as well as to establish the characteristics of the diagnosis and treatment of PVCRD in childhood. Methods. A retrospective analysis of medical records of pediatric patients who underwent peripheral prophylactic laser retinal coagulation (PPLRC) regarding the «risk-forms» of PVHRD at the ophthalmology department of MAUZ Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 1 from 2017 to 2019 was performed. 241 childr (293 eyes) aged 7 to 17 years (mean age 14.1 ± 2.4 years) were operated. Results. PVCRD in children is asymptomatic and it is detected at the age of 7 to 17 years, regardless of gender, the peak of occurrence is 10–14 years. The most common type of PVCRD is «lattice» dystrophy. PVCRD is predominant in low degree myopia. Quite a lot of cases of PVCRD detected in emmetropic refraction, as well as in hyperopic refraction and combined astigmatism. Conclusions. A thorough examination of the periphery of the fundus is necessary in all children, regardless of age and refraction. The parameters of laser coagulation in children differ from those in adults. Given the characteristics of childhood, the success of the operation depends on the correct preoperative preparation, including psychological preparation, contact of the surgeon with the child during the operation. The sling procedures are the gold standard for SUI treatment. They are highly effective but not free from complications. The most common adverse effect for the surgery with the implant insertion is: overactive bladder occurring de novo after the surgery, voiding dysfunctions, urine retention, and unsatisfactory treatment outcome. The most important question that arises after 20 years of sling procedures is how to manage the complications and what can be offered to complicated patients. The above review summarises the ultrasound findings in complicated cases and shows the scheme of management of the clinical problems concerning the tape location in suburethral region.

African swine fever (ASF) is a notifiable disease that in recent years has spread remarkably in Europe and Asia. Eurasian wild boar (Sus scrofa) plays a key role in the maintenance and spread of the pathogen. Here we examined gross pathology of infection in wild boar with a highly virulent, hemadsorbing genotype II ASF virus (ASFV) strain. To this end, six wild boars were intramuscularly inoculated with the 10 HAD50 Arm07 ASFV strain, and 11 wild boars were allowed to come into direct contact with the inoculated animals. No animals survived the infection. Clinical course, gross pathological findings and viral genome quantification by PCR in tissues did not differ between intramuscularly inoculated or contact-infected animals. Postmortem analysis showed enlargement of liver and spleen; serosanguinous effusion in body cavities; and multiple hemorrhages in lungs, endocardium, brain, kidneys, urinary bladder, pancreas, and alimentary system. These results provide detailed insights into the gross pathology of wild boar infected with a highly virulent genotype II ASFV strain. From a didactic point of view, this detailed clinical course and macroscopic description may be essential for early postmortem detection of outbreaks in wild boar in the field and contribute to disease surveillance and prevention efforts.
