ABSTRACT Based on the spectral analysis of individual orbits of stars from different N-body models, we show that the face-on morphology of the so-called ‘face-on peanut’ bars (boxy bars) and barlenses is supported by different types of orbits. For ‘face-on peanut’ bars, the so-called boxy orbits come to the fore, and they are responsible for the unusual morphology of the bar in the central regions. In the models with compact bulges, the bars show a barlens morphology in their central parts. We found that the barlens supporting orbits come in two types, one of which gives a square-like shape and the other have a rosette-like shape in the frame co-rotating with the bar. Such a shape is typical for orbits around stable loop orbits in nearly axisymmetric potentials only slightly distorted by the bar. They were already known from some of the previous studies but their role in barlens shaping was barely investigated. Although quite simple, the rosette-like orbits are found to be the main building block of a barlens in our models. The detailed analysis of all bar orbits also allowed us to distinguish the x2 orbital family and isolate the structure supported by orbits trapped around this family. The x2 family is well-known, but, apparently, for the first time in N-body models we have revealed the structure it supports by means of spectral dynamics and highlight its contribution to the barlens. We found that the x2 family population increases with an increase in central matter concentration.

Abstract The goal of this study is to examine the strategies of politeness used in the Qur’an, the holy book of Muslims, to address and represent women. Women have been represented negatively in many different types of texts through face-threatening acts that sustain masculine power and hegemony. This study attempts to investigate the image of women in the most sacred book of Muslims. Two aspects are examined herein: the representation of women in relation to sensitive issues like sex and marriage, and the forms of address and reference to women. A qualitative approach is used to provide interpretations of the hidden meanings in the selected excerpts, adopting Brown and Levinson’s theory of politeness and Leech’s maxims of politeness as the guides for the analysis. The analysis has revealed that women all through Qur’an have been addressed and referred to decently and politely. Unlike most of the other topics where bald-on-record strategies are used, the use of off-record strategies and positive and negative face strategies of politeness have been found to be dominant in discussion of issues relevant to women. These strategies have been used to avoid unpleasant communication in spiritual issues, and also to avoid misrepresentation of women, demeaning of their persons, causing any embarrassment, and thereby saving the face of both women and recipients. However, bald-on-record strategies are sometimes used in topics related to legal matters concerning familial and social unity and solidarity. The analysis has demonstrated the means by which language is used in the Glorious Qur’an to courteously address women. Concerning interpersonal maxims, the approbation, modesty, sympathy, tact, and agreement maxims have shown to be evident in addressing and referring to women. This study will contribute to the field of pragmatics and will lead to cross-religious and cross-cultural understanding during a period where Islam and its teachings are being widely questioned and examined.

Applying spectral dynamics methods to one typical N-body model with a barlens, we dissect the modelled bar into separate components supported by completely different types of orbits. We identify at least four components: a narrow elongated bar, a boxy bar, and two components contributing to the barlens. We analyse the vertical structure of all components that make up the thick part of the bar, which has a boxy/peanut shape (B/P bulge). We show that the ‘peanut’ shape is mainly due to the orbits that assemble the boxy part of the face-on bar. We associate the X-shape with the narrow and elongated bar. The wider part of the barlens with square-like isophotes contributes to the boxy shape of the B/P bulge when we observe the galaxy edge-on. However, the part of the barlens with rounded isophotes in the face-on view is a rather flat structure in the vertical direction without any significant off-centre protrusions. Thus, for the first time, we demonstrate that the rounded face-on barlens cannot be entirely associated with the B/P bulge.

We present detailed Raman studies of graphene deposited on gallium nitride nanowires with different variations in height. Our results indicate that different density and height of nanowires impact graphene properties such as roughness, strain, and carrier concentration as well as density and type of induced defects. Tracing the manifestation of those interactions is important for the application of novel heterostructures. A detailed analysis of Raman spectra of graphene deposited on different nanowire substrates shows that bigger differences in nanowires height increase graphene strain, while a higher number of nanowires in contact with graphene locally reduces the strain. Moreover, the value of graphene carrier concentration is found to be correlated with the density of nanowires in contact with graphene. The lowest concentration of defects is observed for graphene deposited on nanowires with the lowest density. The contact between graphene and densely arranged nanowires leads to a large density of vacancies. On the other hand, grain boundaries are the main type of defects in graphene on rarely distributed nanowires. Our results also show modification of graphene carrier concentration and strain by different types of defects present in graphene. Therefore, the nanowire substrate is promising not only for strain and carrier concentration engineering but also for defect engineering.

The purpose of the article is to identify the general situations emerging in the practice of road carriers and importing companies that relate to increased risk of damage and destruction of the goods and also to delivery delays because of the mismatch between the transport packaging which is provided by foreign suppliers of construction materials and the goods itself. The article gives pride of place to the recommendations on minimizing of the risks that are connected with transport and consumer packaging of construction materials delivered in Russia from abroad by truck. It has been noted noted that in the face of declining of effective demand for commercial and residential real estate one of the most widespread ways to reduce the costs of construction and, as a result, real estate value is cutting procurement expenditures. The author draws attention to the fact that one of the reasons for occurrence of additional expenses at the stage of procurement of the goods for construction needs could be total or partial incompatibility between, on the one hand, packing and wrapping materials and, on the other hand, both the materials carried and vehicles that are planned to transport the cargo. The article considers the features of general nomenclature groups of imported from Europe construction materials, gives the detailed analysis of the characteristics of the transport and consumer packaging and also the wrapping used in the process of its transportation. The author suggests the algorithm of coordinated actions of suppliers, buyers, local carriers from countries of consignment and logistics operators, which could be applied for reducing of the quantity of the incidents during the logistics handling connected with packing.

The pandemic of COVID-19 has brought to the front a particular object: the face mask. I have explored the way people make-meaning of an object generally associated with the medical context that, under exceptional circumstances, can become a presence in everyday life. Understanding how people make meaning of their use is important. Using cultural psychology, I analyse preferences toward different types of face masks people would wear in public. The study involved 2 groups, 44 Norwegian university students and 60 international academics. In particular, I have focused on the role of the mask in regulating people affective experience. The mask evokes safety and fear, it mediates in the auto-dialogue between “I” and “Me” through the “Other”, and in the hetero-dialogue between “I” and the “Other” through “Me” The dialogue is characterized by a certain ambivalence, as expected. Meaning-making is indeed the way to deal with the ambivalence of human existence.

The current study aimed at investigating cycles and the spatial autocorrelation pattern of anomalies of thunderstorms in Iran during different periods from 1961 to 2010. In this analysis, 50-year periods (1961–2010) of thunderstorm codes have been collected from 283 synoptic stations of Meteorological Organization of Iran. The study period has been divided into five different decades (1961–1970, 1971–1980, 1981–1990, 1991–2000, and 2001–2010). Spectral analysis and Moran’s I were used to analyze cycles and the spatial autocorrelation pattern, respectively. Furthermore, in order to conduct the calculations, programming facilities of MATLAB have been explored. Finally, Surfer and GIS were employed to come up with the graphical depiction of the maps. The results showed that the maximum of positive anomalies mainly occurred in the northwestern and western parts of Iran due to their special topography, during all the five studied periods. On the other hand, the minimum of negative anomalies took place in central regions of the country because of lack of appropriate conditions (e.g., enough humidity). Moran’s I spatial analysis further confirmed these findings as Moran’s I depicts the positive and negative spatial autocorrelation patterns in line with negative and positive anomalies, respectively. However, in recent decades, this pattern has experienced a declining trend, especially in southern areas of Iran. The results of harmonic analysis indicated that mainly short-term and midterm cycles dominated Iran’s thunderstorms.

This study aimed to replicate, for the first time on Serbian population, the own-race bias (ORB), a classical effect from the face perception domain. The ORB was additionally contrasted with familiarity and the own-gender bias (OGB). Recognition accuracy for own race faces was higher in comparison both to African (Z=3.29, p<0.01) and Asian faces (Z= 2.59, p<0.01). The introduction of famous faces led to a significant drop in the ORB. However, in all of the conditions a ?seen before? effect was measured, suggesting better recognition for own race faces, independent of familiarity. The OGB was obtained for own-race faces (?2(28, 7) = 119, 34 p <0, 05), while there were no differences in recognition accuracy between the own and the other-race faces of the other gender. These results imply that the ORB could be explained, at least partially, by the OGB. However, these results were obtained on an exclusively female sample.

Abstract Objective: To present a quantitative system for assessing the quality of ultrasound examinations-SQUALUS-and to determine its reproducibility, taking into consideration the images on file, as well as the consistency between the images obtained and the final report. Materials and Methods: The system includes questions related to the number of images; the appropriateness of images in relation to the protocol established; focus adjustment; depth; gain; and appropriateness of the measurements for B-mode examinations. For Doppler examinations, the system includes questions related to the appropriateness of color images, the spectral analysis, and correction of the insonation angle. To assess the quality of the report, the system includes questions related to the consistency between the images obtained and the contents of the report. An overall numerical score was assigned by averaging the scores for image quality and for the contents of the report. Two independent examiners, each blinded to the evaluation of the other, assessed 30 different types of ultrasound examinations. Results: There was statistically significant agreement between the two examiners for 8 of the 10 questions related to image quality. For the questions related to the quality of the reports, the interexaminer agreement was almost perfect. Conclusion: The proposed quantitative system for assessing the quality of ultrasound examinations is a reproducible tool that can be used in audits and accreditation programs.

For the first time in German literature studies the article examines the novel “Murau Identity” (“Die Murau Identität”, 2014) by Alexander Schimmelbusch (1975) entirely devoted to the oeuvre and public figure of Thomas Bernhard (1931-1989), one of the most important authors in the Austrian literature of the 20th century. The article deals with the representation of Bernhard’s literary style and his public mask in the Schimmelbusch’s novel. Special attention is given to the Schimmelbusch’s interpretation of the characteristic stylistic, narratological, and semantic constants of Bernhardian works. In the article we reveal two main forms of the Bernhardian word’s representation in the novel: parody and stylization. They correspond with two different narrative plans – first person narratives, one of which belongs to the journalist-character, the other one – to the publisher-character. The detailed analysis of the Schimmelbusch’s novel helps to complement the picture of the creative reception of Bernhard’s works in the 21st century.
