Introduction: Glaucoma, a multifactorial condition characterized by progressive optic neuropathy and distinctive visual eld loss, has become the most common cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Many cases have shown progress despite of good control of IOP, strengthening the view that other independent risk factors play role in pathogenesis of glaucoma. Few studies have shown association of serum lipids to glaucoma. The objective of the study is to nd relation between serum lipid and POAG. Materials and Method: The study was conducted on 50 cases of glaucoma and 50 age matched controls. Detailed ophthalmic examinations were performed in all patients. Fasting lipid prole including total cholesterol, triglyceride, Low density lipoprotein(LDL),and high density lipoprotein (HDL) were measured and analyzed between the cases and controls. Result: Level of total cholesterol, total triglyceride, and LDLwere signicantly higher in cases than in contacts with Pvalue <0.05.Level of HDL was lowered in cases than in controls but it was not statistically signicant. Conclusion: Dyslipidemia is an independent risk factor for POAG. High serum Cholesterol, high triglyceride and high serum LDLcorrelate signicantly with POAG.

To study the regulation effect of apple polyphenol on fat metabolism in mice. The mice were randomly divided into 5 groups, except the basic control group, the other 4 groups were given high fat diet, body weight was measured once a week, and the obesity model was established. The basal control group and the obesity model group were intragastrically given normal saline (4.2mg/(kgbw.d), The three dose groups were gavaged separately with apple polyphenol 4.2, 8.4, 12.6 mg/(kg bw. d). After 4 consecutive weeks, the body weight of mice, the contents of total cholesterol (TC), total triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), malondialdehyde (MDA) in serum and the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), liver lipase (HL) and lipoprotein lipase (LPL) in serum. should be measured respectively. Apple polyphenol can significantly reduce the body weight, TG, LDL-C, TC and MDA contents, coupled with the atherosclerosis index (AI) of obese mice. It can increase the serum HDL-C content of obese mice, and effectively increase the activities of SOD, GSH-Px, HL and LPL in mice. Apple Polyphenol can reduce blood lipid and prevent atherosclerosis via regulating fat metabolism in mice.

We present a rare case of a 49-year-old female with very severe hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) having a total triglyceride (TG) count of > 10,000 mg/dL in the absence of pancreatitis. Based on literature review, this is one of the highest recorded TG counts in an adult without evidence of pancreatitis. HTG is a common occurrence in clinical practice, but rarely do numbers exceed 2000 mg/dl. It is crucial to evaluate and rapidly lower TG levels to prevent potentially life-threatening complications such as severe pancreatitis. Removal of potential predisposing medications, control of underlying diseases known to cause HTG, and maintenance therapies are essential to prevent reoccurrence.

AbstractThe aim of this study was to assess the impact of dietary control on VLDL1- and VLDL2-TG kinetics and associated metabolic parameters. Twelve overweight/obese men were randomized to a provided 3 day isocaloric diet with fixed macronutrient composition (diet group, n=6) or to their regular unrestricted diet (non-diet group, n=6). VLDL1- and VLDL2-TG turnovers were measured twice 2–4 weeks apart, using primed-constant infusion of ex vivo labeled [1-14C]VLDL1-TG and [9,10-3H]VLDL2-TG. Isocaloric diet intervention lowered the difference in the mean of both VLDL2-TG secretion and clearance rate (p<0.01), and the coefficient of variation (CV) of VLDL2-TG clearance rate (p<0.05). The difference in mean and CV of the other kinetic estimates (VLDL1-TG secretion, clearance and oxidation rate) were lowered, but not significantly. The CV’s of total triglyceride, VLDL1-TG, and VLDL2-TG concentrations were significantly lowered by diet intervention compared to regular diet; total triglyceride (31%–5%, p<0.01), VLDL1-TG (42%–9%, p<0.01), and VLDL2-TG (36%–10%, p<0.01). In conclusion, VLDL1- and VLDL2-TG kinetics show great day-to-day variability, which may be diminished by diet intervention. Therefore, standardized macronutrient intake prior to study days improves the probability of demonstrating significant outcomes of cross-sectional and intervention studies of VLDL1-TG and VLDL2-TG kinetics and metabolism.

Obesity is defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents risks for many other disorders. It is affecting populations across the world in all age groups which may be caused due to unhealthy lifestyles or genetic predisposition. The present study was conducted to assess the impact of pragya-yoga exercise (a defined set of 16 yogic postures) on lipid profile among overweight women. 30 overweight women (BMI>25kg/m) were selected from the polyclinic of Dev Sanskriti university Haridwar, with their ages ranging from 30 to 50 years (group average age ±S.D., 38.37±5.52 years). All participants practiced Pragya Yoga exercise for 40 minutes on each day for eight weeks under supervision of a female yoga therapist. Data was analyzed using paired sample t-test. There were statistically significant reduction in total cholesterol level(df=28, p<0.01), total triglyceride level(df=28, p<0.01), low density lipoprotein(df=29,p<0.01) and significant elevation in high density lipoprotein(df=29, p<0.01). The result suggests that Pragya-yoga practices are beneficial for the management of lipid profile among overweight women.
