Immigration is one of the most contentious topics in contemporary American politics. This study presents the planning, implementation and evaluation of a program of faith community dialogues on immigration developed in partnership between a public university, a faith-based group of volunteers, and Catholic congregations. Based on data from dialogue transcriptions, exit questionnaires completed by participants, observation notes, and reflections shared by students and faith community leaders, the study shows the outcomes of the program for the congregations, the volunteer group, the students, and the faculty leader. The volunteer group was able to launch a new program that helped immigrant and US-born members of faith communities develop feelings of mutual understanding and collaboration. Students had the opportunity to learn research skills and better understand people’s perspectives on immigration and race. The faculty leader produced community-based scholarship that otherwise would not have been possible. The study concludes that cumulative collaborative learning, the inclusion of a religious dimension, and support from faith leaders are key for the success of partnerships between university and faith-based actors.

There is an issue of radicalism in Indonesia and the development of current hijrah phenomena that make the college students interested in following it without having to first review who they are studying, worried attitudes, and radicalism entering the campus to attack and change the mindset of students. Radicalism is fanatical to an opinion, permeates the opinions of others, and ignores the welfare of Islam, is not dialogues, likes to disdain other groups of people who disagree, and do textual in understanding religious texts without considering maqasihid al-syari’at (the essence of sharia). This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method that is to decrypt the problem in its entirety as a problem and then analyze the problem. The purpose of this research is to find out the function and role of the Student Institution, the student body's response to radicalism, and the role of the college student institutions in countering radicalism in the Faculty of Ushuluddin and UINSU Islamic Studies. The role of the college Student Institute of The Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Studies of UINSU in countering Radicalism in the Faculty of Ushuluddin UINSU is to take several steps, among others: to increase the discussion about religious understanding, to conduct studies by presenting Ustadz/Kyai who have clear science and a track record of religious education, mapping, for college students who appear to have begun to be affected by radicalism, consulted with the Dean/faculty leader, and rejected any activities affiliated with the radicalism movement.

Keywords: The role of the college student, Radicalism.

Introduction: Implementing competency-based medical education (CBME) at the institutional level poses many challenges including having to rapidly enable faculty to be facilitators and champions of a new curriculum which utilizes feedback, coaching, and models of programmatic assessment. This study presents the necessary competencies required for Academic Advisors (AA) and Competence Committee (CC) members, as identified in the literature and as perceived by faculty members at Queen’s University. Methods: This study integrated a review of available literature (n=26) yielding competencies that were reviewed by the authors followed by an external review consisting of CBME experts (n=5). These approved competencies were used in a cross-sectional community consultation survey distributed one year before (n=83) and one year after transitioning to CBME (n=144). Findings: Our newly identified competencies are a useful template for other institutions. Academic Advisor competencies focused on mentoring and coaching, whereas Competence Committee member’s competencies focused on integrating assessments and institutional policies. Competency discrepancies between stakeholder groups existing before the transition had disappeared in the post-implementation sample. Conclusions: We found value in taking an active community-based approach to developing and validating faculty leader competencies sooner rather than later when transitioning to CBME. The evolution of Competence Committees members and Academic Advisors requires the investment of specialized professional development and the sustained engagement of a collaborative community with shared concerns.

Purpose This article highlights and codifies the primary responsibilities of those individuals tasked with leading an executive education (EE) custom program design, development, and delivery team. The perspective presented is comprehensive and client centric. Design/methodology/approach The personal insights presented are based on over 20 years of serving as an EE program faculty leader (FL) on some of the largest and longest-running custom clients at one of the world’s premiere EE providers, while also observing others serving in that same capacity on other clients. Findings The primary, ongoing responsibilities of a FL are presented in a fashion analogous to the key players in the custom home building setting. Those roles are: architect, builder, supervisor, inspector, and client liaison. Each role is highlighted and explained. Practical implications The FL roles described herein are easily understood and immediately actionable as a robust array of priorities for those potentially cast in a FL role or its equivalent. Originality/value The EE role of FL is an important one. This article is unique providing a robust and succinct depiction of the multi-faceted role for FLs to embrace in order to richly and effectively fulfill that position.

This research conducted in August-September 2005 under supervision by Lembaga Penelitian UIN Sunan Kalijaga. The main objective was to accelerate the transformation of IAIN to UIN Sunan Kalijaga in the management area. Why management? Because although successful universities are successful primarily because of their teaching and research not because of their management, good management can over time provide the conditions in which teaching and research can flourish, just as, more usually, poor management can undermine teaching and research and precipitate institutional decline. Lecturer as the main actor of teaching and research in universities has a unique characteristic compared to any kind of human resources. Its job descriptions range from serve college student by teaching, serve the scientific world by writing and research, serve institutions by administrative work, to another kind of job descriptions as a social worker who has to serve and develop the community. With those kinds of characteristics, the university has to design special human resource management, we called it Talent Management. A combination of the direct and indirect interview was used to collect primary data. Populations for this research were university and faculty leader or manager who have the authority to design policy about the lecturer. Samples were taken by using proportional consideration: university management consists of the rector and deputy rector II and faculty management consist of the dean of Dakwah, Syari'ah, and Adab and four chiefs of the study program. This research also conducted observations in daily lecturer management practices. Secondary data were compiled from the university’s document, homepages, and faculty’s document.

Given that on a daily basis, both in the work environment and in media coverage, we witness the usage of three forms (dekan, dekanica, dekanesa) to denominate a female person as a faculty leader, of which only one is standard (the one in the so-called generic masculine form), we realized the need to nominate the form dekanica for standard word status in a subsequent normative handbook of the Bosnian language. We are encouraged by the established linguistic practice, the Law on Gender Equality in BiH (2010), the treatment of other members of the semantic group of academic titles / occupations / vocations / functions in the normative books of the Bosnian standard language of recent date, as well as the ever increasing frequency of the form dekanesa in public discourse, which is not acceptable for the Bosnian language for several reasons.
