Exploiting the Pascal Distribution Series and Gegenbauer Polynomials to Construct and Study a New Subclass of Analytic Bi-Univalent Functions

In the present analysis, we aim to construct a new subclass of analytic bi-univalent functions defined on symmetric domain by means of the Pascal distribution series and Gegenbauer polynomials. Thereafter, we provide estimates of Taylor–Maclaurin coefficients a2 and a3 for functions in the aforementioned class, and next, we solve the Fekete–Szegö functional problem. Moreover, some interesting findings for new subclasses of analytic bi-univalent functions will emerge by reducing the parameters in our main results.

Functioning and Cognition of Portuguese Older Adults Attending in Residential Homes and Day Centers: A Comparative Study

The functioning and cognition of older adults can be influenced by different care contexts. We aimed to compare the functioning profiles and cognition of institutionalized and noninstitutionalized older adults and to evaluate the effect of sociodemographic factors on the functioning and cognition. This is a cross-sectional study that included 593 older adults. The data were collected using the Elderly Nursing Core Set and Mini Mental State Examination. Women, older adults who did not attend school and those live in Residential Homes are more likely to have a higher degree of cognitive impairment than men, those who attended school and those frequent Day Centre. The chances of an older adult with moderate or severe cognitive impairment increases with age. Older women, older adults who did not attend school, and older adults who live in Residential Homes had a higher degree of functional problem than men, those who attended school and those who frequent a Day Centre, independently to age. It is necessary to promote the health literacy of older adults throughout life. The implementation of social and health responses should allow older adults to remain in their homes, given the influence of functioning and cognition on self-care and quality of life.

Subcellular Injury of ASMEs Involves in the Genesis of Refractory Hypotension in Severe Shock

The Refractory Hypotension (RH) leads to severe hypoperfusion which results in vital organ failure and death. It has been shown that one of the main reasons for RH is Arteriolar Smooth Muscle Cell (ASMC) hyperpolarization, which results in the inhibition of L-type calcium channel and Ca2+ influx after vasoconstrictor stimulation, that finally leads to refractory hypotension during severe shock. The activation of KATP channels by depletion of intracellular ATP content causes ASMC hyperpolarization. It is usually recognized that the depletion of ATP content originates from microcirculatory disturbance and refractory hypotension is only a functional problem of ASMC with treatment using vasopressors, and no morphological changes of smooth muscle cell were reported in RH. This review shows that mitochondrial damage is another important reason for depletion of ATP level and that protection of mitochondrial dysfunction can increase the blood pressure and survival rate during severe shock, which indicated that subcellular injury of ASMCs is involved in the genesis of refractory hypotension. Protecting and repairing ASMC subcellular injury is a new approach to treatment of severe shock.

An Intraoral Repair Method for Chipping Fracture of a Multi-unit Fixed Zirconia Reconstruction: A Direct Dental Technique

Fracture or chipping of veneering ceramic is one of the most frequent clinical failures in dentistry in fixed dental and implant-borne prostheses. Due to the friable nature of the ceramic material, chippings may result in an aesthetic and functional problem for the patient requiring a rapid solution. Direct repairs have been indicated for the restoration of function, aesthetics and comfort, especially in cases where the fractured prosthesis presents good adaptation and satisfactory aesthetics. This case report aims to present and discuss the techniques of the direct reveneering method, their advantages and disadvantages, as well as the importance of adhesive procedures in the success of these restorative approaches. Success in repairing the fractured area, regardless of the technique used, is fundamental to establish a strong and stable adhesion between the repaired and the fractured areas, since the longevity of the repair will depend on the quality of the interface generated.

Mansoura Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing Residue Rating Scale (MFRRS): An Anatomically Based Tool – A Preliminary Study

<b><i>Objective:</i></b> The aim of this work was to design an anatomically based scale for judging post-swallow residue in the pharyngeal cavities, for use during the fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) in patients with dysphagia, and to assess its feasibility. <b><i>Methods:</i></b> Two 7-point ordinal scales (one for vallecular residue and one for pyriform sinus residue), were developed using detailed anatomic landmarks to denote residue levels. Hard copy color images of a specified frame, from 210 videos of 30 adult FEES evaluations demonstrating the range of all possible residue patterns, were selected (<i>n</i> = 56 valleculae, 62 pyriform sinuses). Half of these images were used to train 4 raters. The remaining half of the images were randomly ordered and rated by the trained raters. Two weeks later the same images were randomized again, and each rater re-analyzed them. The inter- and intra-rater reliability and criterion validity were determined using the kappa statistics and their standard errors. The internal consistency of the items in MFRRS was examined. <b><i>Results:</i></b> MFRRS showed strong inter-rater reliability (valleculae, κ = 0.832 ± 0.038; pyriform sinus, κ = 0.855 ± 0.034), almost perfect intra-rater reliability (valleculae, κ = 0.964 ± 0.018; pyriform sinus, κ = 0.962 ± 0.02), almost perfect concurrent validity (valleculae, κ = 0.968 ± 0.020; pyriform sinus, κ = 0.0971 ± 0.017), and excellent internal consistency (valleculae, Cronbach’s α = 0.990; pyriform sinus, Cronbach’s α = 0.985). <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> MFRRS is a feasible and reliable, anatomically based tool that can provide more accurate pharyngeal residue judgments. The optimized description of residue accumulation patterns can contribute to a better overall description of the functional problem and future description of dysphagia phenotypes.

Congenital eyelid defects mainly include unilateral or bilateral ptosis of epicanthic folds or atresia of the tear ducts. Eyelid defects can also be associated with cleft facial defects as described by Tessier. These defects are rare especially if they are isolated. The eyelid fissure, depending on its size, may cause a functional problem related to incomplete protection of the eye against drying out, or an aesthetic problem, which is particularly important in the psychological development of a child. The reconstruction of the upper eyelid with restoration of its full continuity is a prerequisite for improving the appearance and comfort of life of the growing child.

Bio-equivalence tests in functional data by maximum deviation

We study the problem of testing the equivalence of functional parameters, such as the mean or variance function, in the two sample functional data problem. In contrast to previous work, which reduces the functional problem to a multiple testing problem for the equivalence of scalar data by comparing the functions at each point, our approach is based on an estimate of a distance measuring the maximum deviation between the two functional parameters. Equivalence is claimed if the estimate for the maximum deviation does not exceed a given threshold. A bootstrap procedure is proposed to obtain quantiles for the distribution of the test statistic and consistency of the corresponding test is proved in the large sample scenario. As the methods proposed here avoid the use of the intersection-union principle they are less conservative and more powerful than the currently available methodology.

SOR-Like New Iterative Method for Solving the Epidemic Model and the Prey and Predator Problem

Our aim in this paper is to propose an SOR-like new iterative method by introducing a relaxation parameter ω to improve the new iterative method proposed by Daftardar-Gejji and Jafari (NIM) [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 316 (2006) 753–763] in order to solve two problems. The first one is the problem of the spread of a nonfatal disease in a population which is assumed to have constant size over the period of the epidemic, and the other one is the problem of prey and predator. The proposed method is not limited to these two problems but can be applicable to a wide range of systems of nonlinear functional problem. The results, for different values of ω, show that we found some known methods and our method compared to methods using the calculation of special polynomials and derivatives like the Adomian decomposition method (ADM), the calculation of the Lagrange multiplier as in the variational iterative method (VIM), or the construction of a homotopy as in the homotopy perturbation method (HPM) has several advantages, such as very effective and very simple to implement. Unfortunately, these methods do not guarantee a valid approximation in large time interval. To overcome this, we applied our method for approximating the solution of the problems in a sequence of time intervals as a multistage approach. Some numerical results are presented with plots according to the parameter ω.

DEVELOPMENT OF A CENTRIFUGATION-BASED PLANT DESIGN TO IMPROVE THE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC INDICATORS OF FRITS

The technical solution aimed at reducing the energy loss of the enterprise during drying of the frit is considered: the exclusion of the electric heaters and fan, the use of centrifugation for the developed design of the installation. Analysis of the static and dynamic characteristics of the installation was performed in APM FEM with a uniform load distribution along the bottom of the rotor. The functional problem of smooth starting and braking of the centrifuge drum was solved using an adjustable electric drive with a frequency converter, which provides step control up to 5 rpm. The annual economic effect of the implementation of the installation for drying frits is calculated.
