The experiment was conducted to study the effect of chicory root powder on the gut performance of broilers. For this purpose, two hundred commercial male broiler chicks were randomly divided into 5 treatment groups with 8 replications of 5 birds each and reared in battery brooders up to 42 days of age. The experimental design consisted of; T1 basal diet (BD) without antibiotic, T2: BD + antibiotic (BMD at 500 gm/ton), T3: BD + chicory root powder (0.5%), T4: BD + chicory root powder (1.0%), T5: BD + chicory root powder (1.5%). The results revealed that supplementation of 1.0% chicory root powder recorded significantly (P<0.05) higher body weight gain, feed intake and better feed conversion ratio (FCR) compared to antibiotic, control and 0.5 & 1.5% chicory powder at 42 days of age. Supplementation of various levels of chicory root powder significantly (P<0.05) lowered (P<0.05) the pH in duodenum, jejunum, ileum and caecum compared to control. Supplementation of chicory root powder (0.5, 1.0 & 1.5%) significantly (P<0.05) decreased the E. coli and Salmonella counts and (P<0.05) increased the Lactobacilli counts in ileum when compared to control and antibiotic groups. Supplementation of chicory (1.0% and 1.5%) groups significantly (P<0.05) increased the villus height (VH), crypt depth (CD), VH:CD ratio and villus width (VW) in the duodenum, ileum and jejunum at 42 d of age. Supplementation of chicory 1.0% and 1.5% groups significantly (P<0.05) increased the goblet cell number in duodenum, jejunum and ileum of broilers. Therefore, chicory root powder (1.0 and 1.5%) can be used as an alternative to antibiotic for improving gut performance of broiler chicken.

The experiments were carried out on 5 groups of cage housed broiler chickens of the Ross 308 cross aged from 1 to 35 days. It was found that dried chicory root, oregano, and common nettle are valuable additives in compound poultry feed. The addition of dried chicory root, oregano, and common nettle in amounts of 2 kg/t; 0.5 kg/t, and 2.0 kg/t, respectively, to broiler diets allows obtaining good livability (100%) and live bodyweight, as well as low feed conversion. In the experimental groups the dried medicinal plants were added to the feed without the use of in-feed antibiotics. It was statistically proven that the live bodyweight in broilers at the end of growing in the experimental groups was significantly in compare to control by 7.08-8.04%. This increase was accompanied by a decrease in feed conversion ratio by 10.33-10.45% due to improved digestibility and retention of dietary nutrients. With the introduction of dried medicinal plants into broiler feed, an increase in the protein content in the pectoral muscles by 1.31-1.56% and a decrease in fat content by 2.23-2.97% were found. The sensory quality of the roasted meat was good.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of extrusion process variables on the resistant starch content (RS) in a sample of rice snacks with added chicory root (addition: from 20-40%). The effect of different levels of feed moisture (16.3 to 22.5%) and screw speed (500 to 900) rpm, as well as chicory root addition, during extrusion cooking on the resistant starch content of extruded products, was investigated. Results of our experiments have demonstrated a decrease in the resistant starch content after extrusion, which is also observed in some other studies. The resistant starch content was in a range of 0.1302 g/100g to 0.5302 g/100g. According to Yoon's model, the screw speed had the greatest negative influence, while the increased feed moisture had a positive effect on resistant starch content, as well as the share of chicory addition.

The possibility of using chicory roots processing products in bakery has been established in order to expand the range of bakery products and improve their quality. The efficiency of using crushed dried root crops of chicory and crushed dried cake from them in an amount of up to 5 % and by weight of wheat flour has been proven.

Relevance and methods. For the production of chicory seeds, care must be taken not only to obtain a high-grade source material, i.e. varietal seeds and masterbatch root crops, but also to store the resulting root crops in winter with minimal losses. The main requirement for growing mother chicory root crops is the placement of crops on fertile soils that are clean of weeds. Installed. That on podzolized loams the best dose of mineral fertilizers for this crop is N45P120K60, where an increased dose of superphosphate increases the yield and rootability of Queen cells, increases seed productivity for the second year. Materials and methods. The purpose of this work is to analyze the safety of root crops of chicory root and the degree of their damage by root rot during winter storage in plastic bags in burts. The purpose of the study is to identify the best way to store the mother chicory root crops and the effect of reproduction on the rootability of root crops in winter. Questions of storage of the mother material of root chicory were studied in the laboratory of selection and seed production on the example of the Petrovsky variety in 2017-2019. The material for research was the families of chicory of the Petrovsky variety in the control and elite nursery. Results. The obtained data show that when evaluating and selecting families for the purpose of obtaining highly productive seed material, the safety of root crops in long-term winter storage should be taken into account. If its values are low, the entire family should be completely excluded from the process of primary seed production. In selection and seed-growing work, a mandatory component of the assessment should be the safety of root crops during long-term winter storage.
