Wood-inhabiting dematiaceous Hyphomycetes in the Kampinos National Park

The history of the forest of Bialowieza is briefly reviewed. The National Park was created in 1923 in the central and apparently least exploited part of the forest. The composition of the forest varies in relation to the nature of the soils. Almost half of the wooded area of the park is occupied by forest composed of Carpinus betulus, Tilia cordata, Quercus robur, Acer platanoides, Ulmus glabra and Picea abies (Querceto-Carpinetum). The structure of this association is illustrated by maps and transects of selected plots. An almost continuous canopy is formed by Carpinus betulus with tall emergent trees of Tilia cordata, Quercus robur and Picea abies. Tilia cordata regenerates freely and there are numerous groups of seedlings, saplings and young trees which are sometimes in gaps but often beneath the main canopy. The origin of the groups is analysed and evidence is presented that those of T. cordata are probably always less than 50 years old. This is in contrast to analyses made by Paczoski (1928a, b, 1930) shortly after the park was established, when trees of T. cordata with trunk diameters less than 0.3-0.4 m were absent. There is now a discontinuity in the distribution of diameter classes in the population. The influence of this change on the structure of the forest is discussed.

Abstract Selected forestry parameters were investigated in the system of tree vegetation and wood-destroying fungi in parks of the Kyiv city along a gradient of recreational transformation. We investigated vitality, age structure and health conditions of woody plants (Acer platanoides L., Aesculus hippocastanum L., Carpinus betulus L., Frangula alnus Mill., Pinus sylvestris L., Quercus robur L., Q. rubra L., Sambucus nigra L., Tilia cordata Mill.), and species, systematic, trophic and spatial compositions of xylotrophic fungi (27 species of xylotrophs representing 22 genera, 16 families, 6 orders of divisions Basidiomycota; class Agaricomycetes). The results showed that the communities of tree vegetation and xylotrophic fungi in parks depend on the degree of recreational transformation of the environment. Vitality, age structure and health conditions of trees altered species composition of xylotrophs.

Phytotoxic Activity

The results of the study of phytotoxic effects of water extracts from Pinus sylvestris L., Betula pendula Roth, Quercus robur L., Picea abies (L.) Karst. P. excelsa Link, Carpinus betulus L., Robinia pseudoacacia L., Populus tremula L., Crataegus submollis L. are presented. For а comparison of the phytotoxic activity of the investigated plants was used to measure the change in the intensity of the mitotic division, depending on the concentration of aqueous extraction of plant material (tangent trend curve of cytostatic activity). According to this parameter, the following row of phytotoxic activity of wood species can be ordered: Populus tremula, Betula pendula, Robinia pseudoacacia, Carpinus betulus, Acer platanoides, Tilia cordata, Pinus sylvestris. Water extract Quercus robur and Picea abies have discovered a phyto-stimulating effect. The results of the study allow us to discuss the possibility of introducing the parameter of the phytotoxicity coefficient to determine the allelopathic effect in the tree-tree system.

Розкрито особливості формування зелених насаджень урбанізованих екосистем. Визначено видовий склад лісопаркових і паркових насаджень міста Львова та їх просторовий розподіл. Досліджено та узагальнено фітоценотичні особливості міських насаджень, зокрема, їх флористичну, вікову та екологічну структури, а також візуально-естетичні якості. Встановлено, що процеси урбанізації спричинили формування в лісопаркових і паркових насадженнях Львова нових рослинних асоціацій та появу у фітоценозах інтродукованих деревних видів. Встановлено, що видова різноманітність трав'яного вкриття лісопаркових і паркових зон безпосередньо залежить від топографічних, мікрокліматичних і ґрунтових умов місцевості, а також від видового складу деревного намету та його зімкнутості. Проаналізовано мікрокліматичні характеристики різних за видовим складом фітоценозів лісопаркових і паркових насаджень. З'ясовано, що найбільш контрастними показниками мікрокліматичних особливостей лісопаркових і паркових фітоценозів, порівняно із показниками відкритого простору, характеризуються насадження із щільним наметом з перевагою у складі Carpinus betulus L., Quercus rubra Du Roi, Аcer platanoides L., Acer pseudoplatanus L. та Quercus robur L. За особливостями мікрокліматичних показників у лісопаркових і паркових фітоценозах та відкритого простору виділено три групи рослинних асоціацій: за різницею температур і вологістю повітря – "холодні-вологі", "помірні" та "теплі-сухі"; за вітровим режимом – "комфортні", "середнього комфорту" та "некомфортні"; за освітленістю надґрунтової поверхні: "темні", "середньої освітленості" та "світлі". Встановлено, що більш прогрітим є верхній шар ґрунтового покриву у фітоценозах "теплого-сухого" угруповання з перевагою у складі Pinus sylvestris L., Robinia pseudoacacia L., Betulla pendula Roth., Larix decidua Mill. та Аcer negundo L. Визначено, що проективне трав'яне вкриття у рослинних асоціаціях, віднесених до груп "темних", або зовсім відсутнє, або не перевищує 5 %, а у "світлих" фітоценозах становить 95-100 %. Видове фіторізноманіття у "світлих" і "теплих-сухих" фітоценозах є вищим порівно із фітоценозами "середньої освітленості" і "помірних", а природне поновлення деревних видів у "темних" і "холодних-вологих" рослинних угрупованнях зазвичай відсутнє. Охарактеризовано групи рослинних асоціацій за шкалою естетичної цінності та санітарно-гігієнічними умовами згідно з виділеними кліматопами. Висвітлено значення відновлення фітоценотичної структури лісопаркових і паркових насаджень в оптимізації зелених зон урбанізованих екосистем.

Forest typological and phytososological biodiversity of forest vegetation of Slobozhansky National Park is shown. The park covers 5244 hectares and includes the main parts of the run off valleys of the left-bank Merla River tributary, which belongs to the Vorskla River basin in the Kharkiv region. The main forest-forming species of the Slobozhansky National Nature Park are Pinus sylvestris L. (2779.3 hectares, 59.84%), Quercus robur L. (1451.8 hectares, 31.26%). Minor areas are occupied by Betula pendula Roth (138.3 hectares, 2.98%), Alnus glutinosa (L.) P. Gaertn. (122.5 hectares, 2.64%), Populus tremula L. (45.0 hectares, 0.97%) and other species. Areas covered with forest vegetation are represented by 16 edatopes: all trophotope and almost all hygrotopes, except very dry. Among the trophotopes subors (2015.2 hectares, 43.39%), oak wood (1504.4 hectares, 32.39%) and sugruds (1042.2 hectares, 22.44%) predominate, and the part of pine forest is insignificant (82.5 hectares, 1.78%). Among hygrotopes, the majority are with fresh conditions (4060.6 hectares, 87.43%), much smaller areas are dry (268.4 hectares, 5.78%), damp (184.3 hectares, 3.97%), moist (124.4 hectares, 2.68%) and wet (6.6 hectares, 0.14%) conditions. There are 17 types of forests in the Slobozhansky National Park areas covered with forest vegetation. Fresh oak-pine forest (1780.6 hectares, 38.35%), fresh maple-linden forest (1453.6 hectares, 31.30%), fresh linden-oak-pine sugrud (756.8 hectares, 16.30%) are dominated. Pinus sylvestris plantations grow in 10 forest types. The most common types of pine forests are fresh oak-pine and fresh linden-oak-pine sugrud. Quercus robur growth in 7 forest types, the most common of which is fresh maple-linden oak wood. The distribution of forest typological differences on the territory of the park of vascular plants rare species populations, which have different sozological status is analyzed. Annex I to Resolution 6 of the Berne Convention includes the following species: Dracocephalum ruyschiana L., Jurinea cyanoides (L.) Rchb., Iris pineticola Klokov. A number of species have the appropriate conservation status in Ukraine (Diphasiastrum complanatum (L.) Holub, Lycopodium annotinum L., Dracocephalum ruyschiana, Pulsatilla pratensis (L.) Mill. Sl, Allium ursinum L., Iris furcata M. Bieb., Iris pineticola, Fritillaria meleagris L., F. ruthenica Wikstr., Tulipa quercetorum Klokov & Zoz, Epipactis helleborine (L.) Crantz, Listera ovata (L.) R. Br., Neottia nidus-avis (L.) Rich., Platanthera bifolia (L.) Rich., Stipa borysthenica Klokov ex Prokudin) and 22 species at the regional range.

Висвітлено результати досліджень складу насаджень дендрологічних парків Лісостепу України. Встановлено, що в складі насаджень парків кількісно переважають рослини аборигенних видів. Разом із дубом звичайним (Quercus robur L.) паркоутворювальну роль відіграють його супутники: клен гостролистий (Acer platanoides L.), ясен звичайний (Fraxinus exelsior L.), липа серцелиста (Tilia cordata Mill.), клен польовий (Acer campestre L.), клен явір (Acer pseudoplatanus L.), граб звичайний (Carpinus betulus L.), в'язові. Зроблено порівняльний аналіз аборигенної та інтродукованої дендрофлори в дендропарках Лісостепу України з таких критеріїв: функціональність, економічність та естетичність. З погляду функціональності доведено, що садово-паркові об'єкти, основу яких складають аборигенні види покритонасінних, легко створювати, за ними легко доглядати і такі об'єкти є більш довговічними. Доведено, що з економічного погляду парки, створені з покритонасінних аборигенної дендрофлори, є дешевшими за парки, створені з інтродуцентів у 10–15 разів. Встановлено, що парки, створені аборигенною дендрофлорою покритонасінних, мають найбільший позитивний психоемоційний вплив на відвідувачів і є комфортними для відпочинку. Отже, для створення парків, аборигенна дендрофлора є саме тим елементом ландшафту, який повною мірою відповідає основним трьом критеріям оцінки садово-паркового об'єкта, а значить є головним паркоутворювальним елементом.

In the years 1994-1996 studies on macromycetes of the Niepołomice Forest near Kraków were made in four plots designated in deciduous forests (Tilio-Carpinetum stachyetosum) with a population of Carpinus betulus, Quercus robur and Tilia cordata (the size of each plot was 1000 m2). The observations were made through an international project "Mycological monitoring in European oak forests". As many as 274 species were recorded, including 234 saprobic, 33 mycorrhizal, and 7 parasitic fungi. Moreover, 15 species of fungi are connected with oak, 24 species of fungi are threatened, and 16 species are new to Poland.

AbstractPluteus fenzlii is a rare Eurasian lignicolous fungus, an iconic bright yellow species that attracts attention. Its habitat in the Białowieża Virgin Forest, Poland, is dominated by Carpinus betulus with admixture of Quercus robur, Tilia cordata and Picea abies, with an herb layer typical for the Carpinion betuli alliance. In Slovakia, the country hosting the highest number of localities worldwide, P. fenzlii prefers closed canopy of thermophilous forest with dominance of Quercus cerris and adjacent Quercus robur agg., Q. petraea agg., Carpinus betulus and Tilia cordata. In the Natura 2000 classification this vegetation belongs to habitat 91M0, Pannonian-Balkanic Turkey Oak-Sessile Oak forests, and priority habitat 91G0, Pannonic woods with Quercus petraea and Carpinus betulus. The Slovak localities can be assigned to the mycosociological community Boleto (aerei)–Russuletum luteotactae, typical for thermophilous oak forests of Southern Europe and extrazonal areas in Central Europe. The presence of P. fenzlii at the isolated Białowieża locality could represent either a remote site of its present occurrence or a remnant of its former distribution, connected with the relict occurrence of thermophilous vegetation in Białowieża where continental oak forests have already disappeared.

У статті наведено характеристику популяційної щільністі рослин Convallaria majalis у різних фітоценозах Шосткинського геоботанічного району. Угруповання, у яких репрезентовано досліджувані популяції C. majalis, відрізняються між собою за домінантами ярусу деревостану. У двох із них (Pinetum (sylvestris) sorboso (aucuparii)–elytrigiosum (repentis), Pinetum (sylvestris) coryloso (avellanae)–urticosum (dioicае)) домінантом є Pinus sylvestris L., у трьох (Quercetum (roboris) coryloso (avellanae)–fragariosum (vescae), Quercetum (roboris) coryloso (avellanae)–poosum (nemoralis), Quercetum (roboris) poosum (nemoralis))–Quercus robur L., в одній (Querceto (roboris)−Aceretum (platanoiditis) elytrigietosum (repentis))–Acer platanoides L. при співдомінуванні Q. robur, та ще у двох Tilia cordata Mill. при співдомінуванні Quercus robur. У досліджуваних популяцій C. majalis значення популяційної щільності здебільшого варіюють від 20,4 до 45,5 рослин/м2. Однак найбільші показники щільності виявили в угрупованні Querceto (roboris)−Tilieto (cordatae) convallariosum (majalis) – її величини відповідно досягають 45,5+5,13 рослин/м2. В угрупованні Quercetum (roboris) coryloso (avellanae)–fragariosum (vescae) значення цієї характеристики, навпаки, знижені до 20,4+1,50 рослин/м2. У розподілі значень популяційної щільності виявлено низку закономірностей. Популяції C. majalis, що сформувалися під наметом шпилькових лісів, здебільшого мають менші величини популяційної щільності, ніж ті, що зростають в широколистяних лісах. Чітко виражене збільшення величин популяційної щільності проявляється в ряду звичайнососнові à звичайнодубово-дрібнолистянолипові ліси. Відповідно, був проведений аналіз зміни величин популяційної щільності C. majalis на тлі зростання їх популяцій у різних лісорослинних умовах: звичайнососнових лісів (формація Pineta sylvestris, субформація Pineeta sylvestris); 2 – звичайнодубових лісів (формація Querceta roboris, субформація Querceеta roboris); 3 – звичайнодубово-гостролистокленових лісів (формація Acereta platanoiditis, субформація Querceto (roboris)–Acereta platanoiditis); 4 – звичайнодубово-дрібнолистянолипових лісів (формація Tilieta cordatae, субформація Querceto (roboris)–Tilieta cordatae).
