The study on weed infestation of root crops in different soils in the protective zone of Roztocze National Park was conducted in the years 1991-1995. As many as 240 phytosociological records, made with the use of Braun-Blanquet method, were taken in potato and sugar beet fields. The number of weed species in sugar beet and potato in the area depended on the soil and type of root crop. In the same environment conditions. the iiuinber of weed species was higher in potato than in sugar beet. The most difficult weed species iii all types of soil were: <i>Chenopodium album, Stellaria media</i> and <i>Convolvulus arvensis</i>. Podsolic soils were highly infested by two acidophylic species: <i>Spergula arvensis</i> and <i>Raphanus raphanistum</i>. Potato in loess soil and brown soil made of loamy sands were highly infested by <i>Echinochloa crus-galli, Equisetum arvense</i> and <i>Galinsoga parviflora</i>. Root crop plantations in brown soils formed from gaizes of granulometric loam texture and limestone soils were infested by: <i>Galium aparine, Sonchus arvensis, Sinapis arvensis</i> and <i>Veronica persica</i>.

The study on weed infestation of crops in different soils in the protective zone of RPN was conducted in the years 1991-1995. The characterization of weed infestation of winter and spring cereals was based on 306 phytosociological records. made with the use of Braun-Blanquet method. The degree of weed infestation in the fields in the protective zone of RPN depended on environment conditions. Both winter and spring cereals in majority of soils were most infested by: <i>Cenaturea cyanus, Apera spica-venti</i> and <i>Vicia hirsta</i>. In the lightest podsolic soils, made of loose sand and slightly loamy sand. winter and spring cereals were additionally infested by <i>Equisetum arvense</i> and two acidophylic species: <i>Seleranthus annuus</i> and <i>Spergula arvensis</i>. The crops in brown loess soil were infested by <i>Matricaria maritima</i> subsp. <i>inodora</i>. The most difficult weed species in brown soil formed from gaizes and limestone soil were: <i>Convolvulus arvensis, Papaver rhoeas</i> and <i>Galium aparine</i>. Moreover winter cercals in limestone soil showed high or medium infestation with <i>Consolida regalis, Aethusa cynapium, Lathyrus tuberosus</i> and low infestation with <i>Apera spica-venti</i> and <i>Centaurea cyanus</i>. Spring cereals were less infested than winter cereals. <i>Apera spica-venti</i> and <i>Centaurea cyanus</i> were less common with spring cereals than with winter cereals. Also, spring cereals showed high or medium infestation with <i>Convolvulus arvensis</i>. Spring cereals in some soil units were infested by <i>Chenopodium album</i> and <i>Stellaria media</i>. There was also higher infestation of spring cereals in limestone soils with <i>Avena fatua, Veronica persica, Sinapis arvensis</i> and <i>Sonchus arvensis</i>, compared to winter cereals in limestone soils.

A floristic study was conducted over the period 2010–2012, using the Braun-Blanquet method, under which vegetation relevés were made in sugar beet (<em>Beta</em><em> vulgaris </em>L. subsp. <em>vulgaris</em>) plantations in Lower Silesia. Fields with similar habitat conditions, which differed in the intensity of herbicide application to control weed infestation, were selected for observation. A total of 144 relevés were made and based on them a list was prepared of species found in fields in which different levels of chemical protection were used. A cover index and a constancy class were determined for each species found in the phytocoenoses studied. On the basis of these observations, the study found floristic  variation in the investigated agrophytocenoses as af- fected by the level of intensity of weed control chemicals used. In  herbicide-untreated plots, a total of 25 weed species were found and their aggregate cover index was 8705. <em>Chenopodium album </em>L.<em>, Polygonum persicaria </em>L. and <em>Setaria pumila </em>(POIR.) ROEM. &amp; SCHULT by far dominated among them. Herbicide use caused an impoverishment in the floristic list. 20 taxa were observed in the plots treated with the lowest herbicide rates, while with increasing rates the number of species dropped to 18. The sum of the cover indices also decreased with increasing rates, successively reaching the values of 5907, 5212 and 4356.

„Flax specialists”-weed species extinct in Poland? The results of a research on segetal weed communities in fibre flax in Poland are presented, with respect to different regions of cultivation, and changes in the level of infestation during the past forty years. Observations on composition and abundance of weed infestations were made in fields in six experimental farms at the Institute of Natural Fibres and Medicinal Plants. The observations conducted in the period 1967-2008 did not show the occurrence of weed species from the group of so-called "flax specialists": Lolium remotum Schrank, Spergula arvensis L. subsp. maxima (Weiche) O. Schwarz, Camelina alyssum (Mill.) Thell. and Cuscuta epilinum Weihe Ex Boenn. In Poland, weed populations in fibre flax consist of species typical for cereals and root crops: Chenopodium album L., Polygonum convolvulus L., Viola arvensis Murr., Stellaria media Vill., Lamium amplexicaule L., Thlaspi arvense L., Elymus repens (L.) Gould, and Polygonum nodosum Pers.

The process of weed development in a sugar beet field was followed under the climatic conditions of mideastern Poland in 1977. The sugar beet was cultivated on loess soil and weeded using two methods: mechanical and chemical (Pyramin 5 kg/ha just after sowing). The results of the study revealed a specific developmental rythm of the particular weed species on each of the weeded objects. The lise of the herbicide delayed the germination of weeds and limited their repeatability, eliminated sonic species from the weed community as well as delaying the start of generative development of some weeds. It also decreased the participation of the fruit and seed shedding phase of the weeds before harvest of the cultivated crop.

In the paper effect of limitation of postharvest measure to single cultivating or disking of soil and mineral fertilization level on number, air-dry matter and botanical composition of weeds in the potato-field is presented. Simplifield postharvest measure was increasing insignificantly and more intensive fertilization was limiting the weed infestation of potato-field. Decteasing of weeds number increasing fertilization was ststistically significant. Dominating species of weeds in the potato-field were <i>Capsella bursa</i>-<i>pastoris</i>, <i>Poa annua</i>, <i>Viola arvensis</i>, <i>Chenopodium album</i>, <i>Elymus repens</i> i <i>Equisetum arvense</i>.

Weeds are one of the major threats to the natural environment. They are destroying native habitats, threatening native plants and animals, and choking our natural systems including rivers and forests. Aiming to explore the existing situation of weed infestation and assessing its impact, present research work was conducted in south Punjab region, focusing on District Layyah and Muzaffargarh. Weed flora of wheat crop at 3 sites i.e. Nawan Kot, Fethpur, and Karor Lal-e-son in district Layyah; and three sites (Kot Addu, Chowk Sarwar Shaheed, and Sultan Nagar) in district Muzaffargarh was observed using quadrat method. Ten quadrats measuring 1.0 m2 were randomly selected to record the data. From each quadrat soil samples (from top 3 cm) were also taken. Different ecological parameters (i. e. Frequency (%) density (%), (%), relative density (%), relative frequency (%) and important value (%) were worked out using proper formulae. Weed species related to 9 families were classified into different frequency classes. Two most important families of these sites were found Poaceae and Papilionaceae each one represented by four species. Chenopodium album, Cynodon dactylon and Anagallis arvensis were observed the most frequent species at these sites.

In the paper the influence of diferent simplified tillage per number and seeds botanical composition of weeds in 0-25 cm of soil layer under plants crop rotation (potato-spring barley-winter rape-winter wheat) on erodible loess soil was presented. The simplifications in soil tillage relied on replaceing ploughing by cultivation, rotary cultivator tillage or Gramoxone formula. The replaceing ploughing by cultivations or rotary cultivator tillage especially bringing in chemical tillage instead of after-harvest cultivation increasing the number of weeds seed under all plants excluding spring barley. Resource of weeds seed under all plants of crop rotation were formated mainly by short duration species, especially <i>Chenopodium album</i> and <i>Viola arvensis</i> as well as <i>Stellaria media</i> (potato, barley, wheat) and <i>Veronica persica</i> (wheat). It was proven that the number of weeds seed in 0-25 cm of soil layer on erodible loess slope depended from plant species more than the way of soil tillage.

In the years 1975-1980, on the Experimental Farm Chylice fields of the Warsaw Agricultural University, herbicide activity was evaluated on commonly appearing weed species in sugar beet cultivation. The most frequent weeds were: <i>Chenopodium album, Echinochloa crus-galli, Polygonum convolvulus</i> and <i>Polygonum lapatifolium</i>. Preemergence use of chloridazon and furthermore postemergence use of phenmedipham were most effective in control. Metolachlor or bentiocarb mixed with metamitron and chloridazon were effective too. It was found that 70% control of <i>Chenopodium album</i> increased crops of sugar beets by about 25% on the basis of two years experiments (1979-1980), differing in quantity and periods of rainfall, a visible dependence of herbicide effectiveness on climatic conditions was demonstrated.

Results presented concern the species composition, constancy (S) and indices of coverage (D) of weeds on the cereal stubble-fields on various soils in the Lublin region. The report was based upon 456 phytosociological records collected in 130 stands after harvest in the years 1975-1980. In total 245 weed species were found. They were the scarcest on loose sands - 65 species, and the most abundant on loess soil - 158 species. Each kind of soil was characterized by a specific species composition, various degrees of constancy and indices of coverage of weeds.

The present study was carried out in the period 2007- 2009 in the Experimental Farm in Bezek near the city of Chełm. The aim of the investigation was to compare weed infestation of the husked (Krezus) and naked (Cacko) oat cultivars cultivated under conditions of different weed control treatments. The following weed control levels were compared: A - control object; B - harrowing twice; C - application of the herbicide Mustang 306 SE; D - herbicide Mustang 306 SE + foliar fertilizer Insol 3; E - herbicide Mustang 306 SE + two foliar fertilizers: Insol 3 and FoliCare 18:18:18. The husked oat cv. Krezus was more competitive against weeds. Number of dicotyledonous weeds and of monocotyledonous weeds, total weeds, and air-dry weight of above-ground parts of weeds in the crop of this cultivar were all significantly lower compared to the naked cv. Cacko. From the group of dicotyledonous species, <i>Chenopodium album</i>, <i>Galinsoga parviflora</i>, <i>Matricaria maritima</i> ssp. <i>inodora</i>, <i>Polygonum aviculare</i>, and <i>Stellaria media</i> were the dominant species in the crops of the oat varieties under investigation, whereas among the monocotyledonous species <i>Echinochloa crus-galli</i>, <i>Setaria pumila</i>, <i>Apera spica-venti</i>, and <i>Elymus repens</i> occurred in greatest numbers. The application of the herbicide Mustang 306 SE decreased the number of dicotyledonous weeds and air-dry weight of weeds, compared to the treatment in which mechanical weed control had been used.
