Employing 4-ethynylaniline as a simple organic ligand we were able to prepare the stable trans-bis(acetylide)platinum(II) complex [Pt(L1)2(PBu3)2] as a linear metalloligand. The reaction of this metalloligand with iron(II) cations and pyridine-2-carbaldehyde according to the subcomponent self-assembly approach yielded decanuclear heterobimetallic tetrahedron [Fe4Pt6(L2)12](OTf)8. Thus, combination of these two design concepts – the subcomponent self-assembly strategy and the complex-as-a-ligand approach – ensured a fast and easy synthesis of large heterobimetallic coordination cages of tetrahedral shape with a diameter of more than 3 nm as a mixture of all three possible T-, S 4- and C 3-symmetric diastereomers. The new complexes were characterized by NMR and UV–vis spectroscopy and ESI mass spectrometry. Using GFN2-xTB we generated energy-minimized models of the diastereomers of this cage that further corroborated the results from analytical findings.

Bimetallic nanoparticles of silver (Ag) and gold (Au) were synthesized at room temperature using Curcumin. Reduction process of silver and gold ions with different molar ratios leads to production of different nanostructures including alloys and core-shells. Produced nanoparticles were characterized simultaneously with FTIR, UV/vis. spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Energy-dispersive X-ray (EDAX). UV/vis. optical absorption spectra of as synthesized nanoparticles reveals presence of surface palsmon resonance (SPR) of both silver at (425 nm) and gold at (540 nm) with small shift and broadness of gold band after mixing with resucing and capping agent in natural extract which suggest presence of bimetallic nano structure (Au/Ag). FTIR and EDAX data approve the presence of bimetallic nano structure combined with curcumin extract. TEM micrographs shows that silver and gold can be synthesized separately in the form of nano particles using curcumin extract. Synthesis of gold nano particles in presence of silver effectively enhance and control formation of bi-metallic structure.

(2S,3R,6R)-2-[(R)-1-Hydroxyallyl]-4,4-dimethoxy-6-methyltetrahydro-2H-pyran-3-ol was isolated in 18% after treating the glucose derived (5R,6S,7R)-5,6,7-tris[(triethylsilyl)oxy]nona-1,8-dien-4-one with (1S)-(+)-10-camphorsulfonic acid (CSA). The one-pot formation of the title compound involved triethylsilyl (TES) removal, alkene isomerization, intramolecular conjugate addition and ketal formation. The compound was characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, ESI mass spectrometry and IR spectroscopy. NMR spectroscopy was used to establish the product structure, including the conformation of its tetrahydropyran ring.

Two light-activated NO donors [RuCl(qn)(Lbpy)(NO)]X with 8-hydroxyquinoline (qn) and 2,2′-bipyridine derivatives (Lbpy) as co-ligands were synthesized (Lbpy1 = 4,4′-dicarboxyl-2,2′-dipyridine, X = Cl− and Lbpy2 = 4,4′-dimethoxycarbonyl-2,2′-dipyridine, X = NO3−), and characterized using ultraviolet–visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), elemental analysis and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) spectra. The [RuCl(qn)(Lbpy2)(NO)]NO3 complex was crystallized and exhibited distorted octahedral geometry, in which the Ru–N(O) bond length was 1.752(6) Å and the Ru–N–O angle was 177.6(6)°. Time-resolved FT-IR and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra were used to confirm the photoactivated NO release of the complexes. The binding constant (Kb) of two complexes with human serum albumin (HSA) and DNA were quantitatively evaluated using fluorescence spectroscopy, Ru-Lbpy1 (Kb~106 with HSA and ~104 with DNA) had higher affinity than Ru-Lbpy2. The interactions between the complexes and HSA were investigated using matrix assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) and EPR spectra. HSA can be used as a carrier to facilitate the release of NO from the complexes upon photoirradiation. The confocal imaging of photo-induced NO release in living cells was successfully observed with a fluorescent NO probe. Moreover, the photocleavage of pBR322 DNA for the complexes and the effect of different Lbpy substituted groups in the complexes on their reactivity were analyzed.

Lipid liquid crystalline mesophases, resulting from the self-assembly of polymorphic lipids in water, have been widely explored as biocompatible drug delivery systems. In this respect, non-lamellar structures are particularly attractive: they are characterized by complex 3D architectures, with the coexistence of hydrophobic and hydrophilic regions that can conveniently host drugs of different polarities. The fine tunability of the structural parameters is nontrivial, but of paramount relevance, in order to control the diffusive properties of encapsulated active principles and, ultimately, their pharmacokinetics and release. In this work, we investigate the reaction kinetics of p-nitrophenyl phosphate conversion into p-nitrophenol, catalysed by the enzyme Alkaline Phosphatase, upon alternative confinement of the substrate and of the enzyme into liquid crystalline mesophases of phytantriol/H2O containing variable amounts of an additive, sucrose stearate, able to swell the mesophase. A structural investigation through Small-Angle X-ray Scattering, revealed the possibility to finely control the structure/size of the mesophases with the amount of the included additive. A UV–vis spectroscopy study highlighted that the enzymatic reaction kinetics could be controlled by tuning the structural parameters of the mesophase, opening new perspectives for the exploitation of non-lamellar mesophases for confinement and controlled release of therapeutics.
