The continuing interest in the artistic word reveals all the new aspects of the study of the writers’ language, the methods of usage of the linguistic units in their works. This article brings together in one focus several problems: the study of the language creativity of N.S. Leskov, manifested in the creation of unforgettable speech portraits of characters, who, in search of expressiveness, realize their creative abilities, using already known words and expressions or creating the new ones. Occasional expressions, used to achieve maximum expressiveness and intensity of the transmitted value, can be read in the same text in different ways. The multiple transformation of stable expressions is especially typical for the writer, therefore it is difficult not only to interpret the author’s phraseology in Leskov’s works, but also to translate. The Czech translators using the principle of functional similarity try to keep ways of usage of the units created by the author and to inform the reader of expressivity, emotional sounding and esthetic functions of the original.

The article explores the intertextual interaction of stylists, who in the works of I. Kotlyarevsky and P. Zahrebelny represent the concept of «laugh culture». The linguistic and aesthetic signs in the epic burlesque-travesty poem «Aeneid» by I. Kotlyarevsky, which served as a model for the creation of expressive and pictorial means – carriers of humorous axiology in the language of a number of P. Zahrebelny's novels, are revealed. Attention is drawn to the fact that the foundations for the formation of a ridiculous culture as a genre segment of Ukrainian literature are laid in the poem «Aeneid» by I. Kotlyarevsky, which is written in a syllabic-tonic verse (iamb) – the size most appropriate for the Ukrainian language. The linguistic and literary traditions of ridicule are at the heart of the humorously narrative tonality of P. Zahrebelny's two novels – «The Lion's Heart» and «Exile from Paradise», which form the thematic-storyline. It is emphasized that the figure of I. Kotlyarevsky is a significant creative personality for P. Zagrebelny, who often appeals to the creator of the creator of Ukrainian literary language in his prose. The novelist dialogues with the artistic texts of the laughingstock, introducing meaningfully expressive fragments of them into the intersemiotic field of prose works. The intertextual interplay of linguistic components of the individual-linguistic paintings of the world of two writers can be traced in the functional and structural-semantic similarity of a number of style word, which are often the result of stylistic reception of the language game: intertext (linguocultural and ethno-language characters), literary and artistic anthroponyms, as well as words-symbols, which are functionally significant components of the peripheral-evaluative sphere. The individual and authorial rhetorical figures of P. Zahrebelny are comprehensively analyzed within the limits of linguistics, ethno-linguistics, theory of intertextuality, literary onomastics. It has been concluded that the linguistic creation of the prose contains an important humorous-axiological segment of artistic narrative, which is organically incorporated into the context of Ukrainian laugh culture.

This article provides an emotional assessment of Russian and Spanish vocabulary (including slang), as well as phraseology. For the first time, a comprehensive semantic comparative study of the ways of forming and using evaluative units, reflecting the peculiarities of the perception of the linguistic pictures of the Spanish and Russian languages, has been carried out. The author analyzes the lexical and phraseological material, ways of representation in lexicographic practice, the reasons for the emergence of secondary evaluative meanings. The results obtained allow us to confirm the hypothesis that the belonging of the primary nominative meanings of lexical units to a specific FSH, in our case the “divine” group, leads to the emergence of secondary positive emotional evaluative semantics. Most often, in the secondary estimated values of both Russian and Spanish linguistic units of the FSH “divinity”, the semantics of “beauty, kindness, purity” is realized. Keywords: pragmalinguistics, Spanish, Russian, lexical and phraseological units, figurative meaning, emotional evaluation, FSG, “divinity”, “angel”, “God”.

In the light of deliberate attention of modern linguistic science and a range of social disciplines to the problem of personality and language, the unresolved question of the nature of language game in the texts of different stylistic orientation remains relevant and polemical. Comprehensive analysis of the phenomenon at hand requires the study of linguistic material that would reflect the specific nature of language game, which represents the organic synthesis of genre-stylistic affiliation and creative uniqueness of linguistic personality. Therefore, the examination of language game in the authorial publicistic writing, namely publications of V. V. Nabokov draws particular interest. The subject of this research is the various manifestations of language play on the lexical-semantic level, which implies occasional alignment of semantic plans, change of the usual meaning of the linguistic unit. It is established that the publicistic heritage of V. V. Nabokov is notable for the artistry that is atypical for such genres; it can be traced in the choice of lexical means, their subsequent interaction and transformation. The usual linguistic units acquire the new plane of content, which largely determines the functional-pragmatic vector of publications and the authorial position that reflects the the tendentious suggestive intentions characteristic to the authorial publicistic writing: accusatory, critical, etc. Change of the usual plan of perception is achieved by various means; most typical is the reference to semantic invariant, which in the authorial context contravenes the known presuppositions. The observations indicate that the language game based on the partial or full change of usual meaning of the word is of syncretic nature: as a rule, the new metaphorical level is not limited by modification of a single lexeme, but extends to the entire structure and compositional volume of the sentence.

The article set out to reveal the specific features of secondary somatic nominations in media texts in the spheres of economy, business, and politics. The significance of the problem under study is implied by a need for elucidating the evolution of language consciousness by shedding light on how corporeal lexis in the Russian language is involved in verbalization of reality in the spheres in question. The study demonstrated that secondary somatic nominations evolve due to transformation of the meaning of a linguistic unit, whose primary meaning is associated with various aspects of the human body existence. This transformation of the meaning seems to be a common way of denotating reality in the texts under investigation. We specified the sources of somatic expansion, whose semantic content is most frequently redefined in the thematic fields in question. We also identified the denotation areas (conceptual fields) where corporeal lexis is used in their secondary meanings. Our research demonstrated considerable pragmatic potential of the texts including somatic linguistic units. We established that their evaluative content results from axiological connotations associated with various corporeal concepts in the Russian linguoculture. Their expressiveness is achieved due to imagery created by unusual contextualization of somatic linguistic units. The results of the current study made it possible to establish the ways of transforming the meanings of somatic linguistic units in the investigated spheres in the Russian language. Transformation of the meanings of somatic lexis occurs by using metaphors, metonymy, similes, irony, epithets, oxymoron, gradation, language game, etc.

The English vocabulary has increased greatly in more than 1500 years of development. It is more extensive than that of any other language in the world. Certain processes have led to the creation of many new words as well as to the establishment of patterns for further expansion. Among these processes are affixation, compounding and conversion, which are the three main types of word-formation characteristic of the English language.Since there are few practical rules of compounding and conversion, it would be reasonable to focus on affixation, derivative word-building patterns in particular. Derivative word-building patterns are likely to develop the learners’ receptive and reproductive skills. With the receptive skills the learners make informed guesses about the meaning of unknown items, thus enriching their potential vocabulary. In terms of reproductive skills knowledge of some productive word-building patterns serve to widen the learners’ creative abilities. This can also be viewed as a communicative strategy.

The article focuses on the Russian adversative conjunction «zato» (“but”) as an axiological marker and its stylistically significant use in M.A. Sholokhov’s novels «And quiet flows the Don» and «Virgin soil upturned». The article also puts forward the concept of «axiological stylistics». It is noted that axiological stylistics describes the techniques which facilitate the participation of evaluation linguistic units in the expression of certain expressive intentions. It is shown that in M.A. Sholokhov’s novels «And quiet flows the Don» and «Virgin soil upturned» the adversative conjunction «zato» (“but”) is used as a polysemous function word, and the most productive semantics of compensation involves switching of evaluation both from «-» to «+» and from «+» to «-», although the first evaluation model prevails. Based on this semantics alone, the adversative conjunction «zato» (“but”) participates in the creation of six techniques of axiological stylistics.
