Novel electropolymerizable Ir(III) cyclometallated complexes have been synthesized and characterized. In these complexes the cyclometallated ligands are either 2-phenylpyridineH(PhPy) or benzothiazole-triphenylamineH(BzTh-tpa), while the Ir(III) coordination sphere is completed by a Schiff base substituted with a triphenylamine fragment. A complete electrochemical study has been conducted on all complexes, in order to verify the feasibility of electropolymerization and to elucidate the role of the specific position of the triphenylamine moiety in the molecular structure. Homogeneous thin films of Ir(III) metallopolymers have been successfully obtained through electropolymerization process.

AbstractEpitaxial thin film liftoff using the ion-slicing method has been applied to SrTiO3 single crystals. Rutherford backscattering spectrometry along with channeling (RBS/C) has been used to investigate the relative disorder as a function of temperature from the samples that were irradiated by 40 KeV hydrogen ions to a fluence of 5.0×1016 H+/cm2. Hydrogen profiles were also measured as a function of annealing temperature to understand the role of hydrogen in the ion slicing process. Film cleavage occurred during or after annealing at 570 K, and cleaved film has been successfully transferred to a silicon substrate using ceramic adhesive.

ABSTRACTThe mechanics of thin films are used to define quantitative procedures for predicting interface decohesion motivated by residual stress. The emphasis is on the role of the interface debond energy, especially methods for its accurate and reliable measurement. Experimental results are reviewed and possible mechanisms are discussed.

ABSTRACTThe thin film processes of the sputter deposition method have been reviewed with special emphasis on the effects of kinetic energy of sputtered particles and ion bombardment during deposition on thin film properties. An overview is first given to describe the thin film process and ion-surface interactions, where the methods of measuring the energy distribution of sputtered ions and the anisotropic-emission-effect sputter deposition are presented. Experimental results for Cr, SiO2 and Ni-Si-B films are presented, and the correlation between the structure and properties of the thin films is discussed. Research in modification of thin films by energetic atoms and ions is an exciting area of materials science in the future.
