Trisalkylpyridinium porphyrins substituted by one glycosyl (glucosyl, maltosyl, and lactosyl) moiety have been prepared in acceptable yields. These glycosylated cationic porphyrins have been synthesized from pyrrole condensed with 4-pyridinecarboxaldehyde, and suitable ortho- or para peracetylglycosyloxybenzaldehyde derivatives in refluxing propionic acid –Ac2O followed by action of alkyliodide in DMF. Deprotection of the glycosylated moieties led to a new class of representative glycosylated porphyrins. Key words: porphyrins, cationic, glycosylated; phototherapy, cancer.

Effects of intraruminal infusion of propionic acid at 5.5 and 13.7 g/h on plasma metabolites have been investigated in goats fed a concentrate-roughage ration at 2-h intervals. Propionic acid increased plasma glucose and insulin concentrations, but did not change those of lactate, D(−)-3-hydroxybutyrate and prolactin. Data support the glucogenic theory in relation to low milk fat syndrome. Key words: Metabolites, plasma, goats, propionic acid

The spontaneous small leaf particles groups of fallows, that are the first stage of the restoration of broad-leaved forests were investigated. In composition of groups of birch, aspen and alder saplings on the fallows (Ivano-Frankivsk and Zhytomyr region) three new associations are distinguished and described (Cirsio arvensi-Betuletum pendulae, Phalacrolomo annui-Populetum tremulae, Dauco carotae-Alnetum glutinosae). These syntaxons are included into new class Dactylo glomerati-Populetea tremulae Vorobyov et I. Solomakha cl. nova in press. Syntaxonomy of this class was generalized for the territory of Ukraine.

Key words: Syntaxonomy, class Dactylo glomerati-Populetea tremulae, fallows, afforestation, birch aspen and alder forests, Ukraine.

Background: Propionic acid (PRO) is increasingly being used as a food preservative on markets, today. However, excessive use of this chemical will harm the health of consumers. Objectives: (1) To develope an HPLC method for quantification of PRO in foods and (2) To determinate PRO content in some foods in Hue city. Materials and methods: Breads, cakes, noodles in Hue city. After attaining the optimal process, the method was validated and applied to assess the content of PRO in these materials. Results: The method was validated parameters including: system suitability, specificity, linearity, precision and accuracy. Conclusions: The method development canbe aplied to determine PRO in some foods. PRO contents (using as a preservative) in all foods surveyed in Hue city were under the permitted level of PRO in foods according to Ministry of Health (Vietnam). Key words: propionic acid, food samples, HPLC, content, derivatization

A new class of porphyrins bearing natural polyamines has been designed in order to target the photosensitizers towards malignant cells. We report here the synthesis of spermidine and spermine porphyrins. The photocytotoxicity of these compounds against K562 human chronic myelogenous leukemia cells has been evaluated and compared to Photofrin II®.
