The foundation of the city of Recopolis on the initiative of King Liuvigild in ad 578 is the clearest material expression of the participation of the Visigothic state in urban development and in the creation of power landscapes. The ex novo construction of the city – city walls, palatial complex, elite houses, commercial and industrial buildings, hierarchical organization of space – and its impact on the wider territory, with the reorganization and renovation of the road network and creation of new rural settlements, was a clear demonstration of political prowess and an expression of the tax-collecting power of the state. Contextualizing these features within the broader landscape helps in understanding the spatial and social inequality that characterized the beginning of the early medieval period.

AbstractThis book has introduced two new (linked) models for greyfield precinct regeneration—place-activated and transit-activated GPR—with a new set of processes to enable them. The need for new design, planning, and engagement tools that must be integrated into all urban development is also seen as key to unlocking greyfield regeneration. Designs for such precincts have proliferated, but planning systems are still hindering their implementation, especially those systems related to land-assembly issues in the established, occupied middle greyfield suburbs. Planning must change, and a potential way ahead involves the planning processes demonstrated in this book. A first step involves district greenlining, which enables identification of strategic planning challenges and priorities for action at a district scale along a transit corridor (transit-activated GPR) or in precinct-scale areas in typical middle suburbs with high redevelopment potential (place-activated GPR). Their key attributes are gleaned from the previous chapters and summarised in this chapter. A final plea is made here for partnerships to be created from the engagement of all stakeholders: government, community and civil society, innovators, and developers. Greyfield Precinct Redevelopment Authorities established within state governments as part of a federal Better Cities 2.0 program could guide this transition.

The goal of movement was to improve the service through placing the governmental office area in one integrated location. Furthermore for spatial context it would be highly expected to be the instrument of urban development as well as to trigger the establishment in the expansion area. According to Urban Spatial Detailed Planning (RDTR) of Boyolali Year 2012 – 2032, the new location was the expansion of Boyolali City which included part of Mojosongo Dictrict covering Kemiri Sub-district, Mojosongo Sub-District and Kragilan Village. Those mentioned administrative regions were capable to be developed. This research aimed to identify the movement impact of governmental office area towards the development of Boyolali urban area. The methodologies being used in this study were deductive quantitative with the comparison between the condition of former and current governmental office area. The analysis was conducted with quantitative descriptive method and spatial descriptive. This study proved that the movement of governmental office area gave the impact in developing the urban area. The impact began with the land-use change from agriculture turning into the settlement, trade and service, and industrial areas, also gave the transformation for the accessibility improvement such as the addition of road network and the increment of land price. The result of analysis towards existing land-use in 2018 with land-use zonation according to RDTR Boyolali Urban Area 2012-2032 (map zonation and text) found out that there was deviation in the usage of green open space and industrial area. That issue showed that the urban development should have been included the instrumental implementation in case of controlling the space utilization for liveable city.

Measuring economic growth is complicated by seasonality, the regular fluctuation in economic activity that depends on the season of the year. The Bureau of Economic Analysis uses statistical techniques to remove seasonality from its estimates of GDP, and, in 2015, it took steps to improve the seasonal adjustment of data back to 2012. I show that residual seasonality in GDP growth remains even after these adjustments, has been a longer-term phenomenon, and is particularly noticeable in the 1990s. The size of this residual seasonality is economically meaningful and has the ability to change the interpretation of recent economic activity.

Sensitivity of the general public to pollution of air, water and land has been rapidly increasing as urban development spreads into rural areas of Maryland, the Northeast and the nation. Among the rural groups who have become vitally concerned with this situation are dairy farmers. They are especially concerned over impending regulations for handling animal wastes and the possible effect on the economics of dairy operations.
