Background: In the whole design process of modular fuel tank, there are some unreasonable phenomena. As a result, there are some defects in the design of modular fuel tank, and the function does not meet the requirements in advance. This paper studies this problem. Objective: Through on-the-spot investigation of the factory, a mechanical design process model is designed. The model can provide reference for product design participants on product design time and design quality, and can effectively solve the problem of low product design quality caused by unreasonable product design time arrangement. Methods: After sorting out the data from the factory investigation, computer software is used to program, simulate the information input of mechanical design process, and the final reference value is got. Results: This mechanical design process model is used to guide the design and production of a new project, nearly 3 months ahead of the original project completion time. Conclusion: This mechanical design process model can effectively guide the product design process, which is of great significance to the whole mechanical design field.

PurposeThis study aims to present the design quality assessment of facilities on a university campus in Saudi Arabia.Design/methodology/approachForty-nine standardized design quality indicators (DQIs) have been adopted for the study. These were classified into relevant categories including: “Indoor Environment, Safety and Maintenance,” “Furniture, Utilities and Spaces” and “Privacy, Appearance and Surrounding Areas.” A web-based survey was used to obtain responses from 207 respondents. The survey was designed based on a Likert scale of satisfaction and was analyzed to obtain the satisfaction indices (SI) as well as Design Quality Scores (DQS).FindingsOccupants were dissatisfied the “level of noise generated from within the space,” “amount of natural light from daylighting systems” and “ease of control of air ventilation systems” among others. The DQS revealed that residential buildings had the highest design quality in terms of “Indoor Environment, Safety, and Maintenance” and “Privacy, Appearance and Surrounding Areas.” Administrative buildings had the best design quality in terms of “furniture, utilities and spaces.” Academic buildings had the lowest design quality in terms of “Indoor Environment, Safety and Maintenance” and “Privacy, Appearance and Surrounding Areas.”Originality/valueUltimately, the study demonstrated how the adoption of a standard set of DQIs could facilitate the standardization of design quality evaluation in the property sector as well as identify best practices through comparison and benchmarking.

Physical Design (PD) Data tool is designed mainly to help ASIC design engineers in achieving chip design process quality, optimization and performance measures. The tool uses data mining techniques to handle the existing unstructured data repository. It extracts the relevant data and loads it into a well-structured database. Data archive mechanism is enabled that initially creates and then keeps updating an archive repository on a daily basis. The logs information provide to PD tool is a completely unstructured format which parse by regular expression (regex) based data extraction methodology. It converts the input data into the structured tables. This undergoes the data cleansing process before being fed into the operational DB. PD tool also ensures data integrity and data validity. It helps the design engineers to compare, correlate and inter-relate the results of their existing work with the ones done in the past which gives them a clear picture of the progress made and deviations that occurred. Data analysis can be done using various features offered by the tool such as graphical and statistical representation.

The indemnificatory housing project has many characteristics such as large scale, short-periodic cycle and diverse design requirement. With the aid of DMAIC theory we focus on analyzing and optimizing the design process of housing project, changing the logical relations between the procedures, eliminating unnecessary links and making some enhancement in defective ones, aiming to build up a design process, which the duration and cost are more less and the quality is higher, to meet its particularity.
