PurposeThis study aims to test the hypothesized moderated mediation process combining job resources, job demands, work engagement, job satisfaction and organizational engagement, which proposes that work engagement can be considered as a mediator between the relationship of job resources with job satisfaction and organizational engagement, and such mediation effect is moderated by level of job demand.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from Junior Management Grade–Scale I officers of 442 branches of 27 public sector banks situated across four States in North India. The final responses stood at 704. Regression analyses was performed through the SPSS macro (developed by Preacher and Hayes, 2004) for testing of H1 and H2 on the mediation effects. H3 was tested by moderated hierarchical regression analysis. The last two H4 and H5 proposing the moderated mediation mechanism were examined in lines with the four conditions suggested by Muller et al. (2005) and Preacher et al. (2007).FindingsIt is suggested that job demands should ideally be adequate and job resources ample to deal with the former, because a suitable fit between these two aspects is related to work engagement, which would further contribute positively to job satisfaction and organizational engagement.Originality/valueThere is dearth of research hypothesizing the moderated mediation process proposing job demands as a moderator in job resources, work and organizational engagement and other work-related outcome relationships. Resting on various propositions and of job demands–resources (JD-R) model, and empirical outcomes of the studies of JD-R perspective, and research gaps identified, this study attempts to propose a unique model of engagement hypothesizing a moderated mediation process, where work engagement might be a mediator between the relationship of job resources with job satisfaction and organizational engagement; such mediation effect is moderated by the level of job demands.

The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship of perceived calling and work engagement in nursing over and above major work environment factors. In all, 351 nurses from various health care institutions completed the survey. Data were collected about the most demanding aspects of nursing, major job resources, the degree to which nursing is perceived as a meaningful calling, work engagement, and main demographic information. Hierarchical linear regression was applied to assess the relation between perceived calling and work engagement, while controlling for demographic and work environment factors, and perceived calling was significantly related to two out of three components of nurses’ work engagement. The highest association was found with dedication component, and vigor component was related insignificantly. Results have shown that perceived calling might motivate nurses to engage in their work even in burdensome environment, although possible implications for the occupational well-being of nurses themselves remains unclear.

Sensitivity method is to get the level of sensitivity of dependent variable to independent variable by using differential relationship of some physical quantities in the system. It has been widely used in the analysis and control of power system. From the point of time, sensitiveness analysis method can be divided into two categories, static sensitivity and trajectory sensitivity. And according to the different considered variables, they are reviewed respectively in this paper. Application of sensitiveness analysis method in the power system reflects essential research value.

Purpose – In today’s scenario when loyalty can no longer be demanded from employees, the extent of organizational identification (OID) of employees predicts outcomes of organizational interest. It is therefore essential for organizations to foster the sense of oneness in employees. Since, need satisfaction lies at the core of human motivation, the purpose of this paper is to test if satisfaction of learning, performance, and relatedness needs at workplace could influence employees’ identification with the organization. Design/methodology/approach – For this study, the authors collected data from 365 professionals representing diverse work backgrounds and analysed it using structural equation modelling approach. Findings – Results suggest that OID is positively influenced by satisfaction of these three needs and about 45 per cent of its variance is explained by these needs. Originality/value – The study corroborates the relevance of the three needs in organizational context. Although not a part of design of the study, nonetheless the study sheds light on methodological and theoretical possibilities of salience of needs. Therefore to the best of awareness, this study stands apart from other studies exploring relationship of disparate needs with OID. The authors believe the study enriches social identity theory literature in indicating that researchers should not only consider focusing on relationship of needs variables with OID but also the dynamics of interaction between various needs among themselves as well as on their differential relationship with OID.

SummaryThis paper describes a new approach to obtaining a differential relationship of a robot manipulator via the Theoretical Kinematics method which may expedite computational efforts. The method involves a successive transformation of velocities from the end-effector to the base of the manipulator, link by link, using the relationship of moving coordinate systems. The equations obtained are written in the form suitable for programming on a digital computer. Furthermore, this paper also discusses the speed control model for general robot manipulators and together presents the Inverse Jacobian of cases of underdetermined and overdetermined of joint-controlled variables.
