This book was written based on the question "What and Why is the Philosophy of Science?". Until now, it seems that no one can stop the rapid progress of science. Recent history records science as a form of rational human thought with the results of various scientific disciplines and sub-disciplines. Accompanied by suitable methodological materials and buildings, it is well preserved in libraries or scientific institutions such as universities. The progress of science cannot be separated from every discovery that is useful for the advancement of human life. The book is perfect for a beginner who wants to study the philosophy of science and wants to know the basics of logic. Very helpful for someone who wants or will study philosophy of science. The content of the discussion that contains the history of philosophical thought to the history of methodology in modern science is beneficial for ordinary people who want to know how to develop science. By studying philosophy of science, we try to look again at a more radical and critical view of the history and development of this book. The book presents several philosophers in several periods and discusses the essays that have been written. This book contains seven chapters beginning with an introductory discussion of philosophy, several branches of science, the history of the development of philosophy, which has been packaged. This thesis investigates the morphogenetic capacities of material systems far from equilibrium and attempts to draw from them a set of architectural principles. The approach taken toward materiality here is not based on structural performance or sensual quality; rather, it looks to processes by which systems of matter and energy spontaneously develop local order, persisting by continuously adapting their configurations in response to shifting forces. From an introductory discussion of the formation of a familiar but surprisingly complex architectural material, granite, a number of simpler systems will be described in order to elucidate individual mechanisms. A design project integrating several aspects of material systems thinking is then developed, in this case, a proposal for a dairy farm as an element within an extended infrastructural/agricultural framework. The project develops form and program synergistically, creating a system of linked material and energy flows coupling the production of food and fuel.

Sentencing explanations provided via judicial remarks made within the English magistrates’ youth court: Towards a better global understanding

This article qualitatively explores the English judicial approach towards sentencing explanations via remarks made within the magistrates’ youth court. First, the extent of their correlation with the three known purposes behind sentencing explanations is considered within a wider introductory discussion. Second, judicial interviews provide new insights regarding the extent of their alignment with the introductory discussion by indicating degrees of correlation. Third, the English judicial approach towards sentencing explanations and the degrees of correlation are concluded upon. Finally, recommendations are made to assist in a better understanding of sentencing explanations globally, particularly in jurisdictions where their publication has increased.

The use of active strategies for teaching Latin syntax: a case study of a Brazilian classroom experience

In this paper, by showing a case study of a Latin teaching experience in Brazil, we discuss the relevance and usefulness of incorporating active strategies into the teaching of Latin syntax in a Brazilian university context. We mean here by active strategies any language practise consisting of producing language output, either orally or through writing, as a means of creating texts in this language to respond to classroom tasks. Our point is that through the development of task-based lessons with active strategies we may more easily engage students in their learning process and make more effective the learning of Latin syntax. We present a brief introductory discussion on what we consider to be how Latin is currently taught in Brazil, then we present an active teaching approach experience, and then we provide with some more conceptual arguments to justify such approach to this classical language.

Which world, whose literature?

This essay argues that the ‘thought figure’ of world literature has been under incalculable strain from its inception, given the diversity of linguistic and cultural contexts within which it must be understood. After a brief introductory discussion of Rabindranath Tagore’s talk on world literature (1907), the essay goes on to connect world literature debates with those in global modernism, especially modernism in the colony. Looking at the networks of modernism, and the role of little magazines in India, particularly Bengal, in creating a sense of world literature through reviews and translations, it stresses the importance of location, language, and perspective in the wake of decolonization. However, in the present time of ecological and planetary crisis, with a global upsurge of xenophobia, insularity, and ethnic, racist, or communal violence, the notion of a world, or of a world literature, is hard to sustain.

Álvaro Vieira Pinto on the concept of technology: an introductory discussion

Álvaro Vieira Pinto sobre o conceito de tecnologia: uma discussão introdutória Esse artigo tem o objetivo de discutir o conceito de tecnologia provido pelo filósofo brasileiro Álvaro Vieira Pinto. Primeiramente, vida e obra do filósofo são apresentadas, seu livro “O conceito de tecnologia” e seus fundamentos metodológicos são brevemente examinados e, finalmente, discute-se sua conceituação de tecnologia. Dos quatros significados do termo desvelados pelo autor, destaca-se tecnologia como sendo o “logos da técnica”, já que é ela proposta como um campo unitário de estudo do tema em questão. Vision-Based Vibration Monitoring of Structures and Infrastructures: An Overview of Recent Applications

Contactless structural monitoring has in recent years seen a growing number of applications in civil engineering. Indeed, the elimination of physical installations of sensors is very attractive, especially for structures that might not be easily or safely accessible, yet requiring the experimental evaluation of their conditions, for example following extreme events such as strong earthquakes, explosions, and floods. Among contactless technologies, vision-based monitoring is possibly the solution that has attracted most of the interest of civil engineers, given that the advantages of contactless monitoring can be potentially obtained thorough simple and low-cost consumer-grade instrumentations. The objective of this review article is to provide an introductory discussion of the latest applications of vision-based vibration monitoring of structures and infrastructures through an overview of the results achieved in full-scale field tests, as documented in the published technical literature. In this way, engineers new to vision-based monitoring and stakeholders interested in the possibilities of contactless monitoring in civil engineering could have an outline of up-to-date achievements to support a first evaluation of the feasibility and convenience for future monitoring tasks.
