Il succombe rapidement aux charmes d’une ville où il est possible de chanter le soir dans un night-club, de porter nœud papillon ou robe décolletée et, surtout, de se distinguer des gens de la campagne. C’est le premier film sud-africain à la distribution entièrement noire et destiné à un public lui-même noir ; il suit en cela les principes officiels du « développement séparé » en régime d’apartheid tout juste mis en place en 1948. Youssou N’Dour

Youssou N’Dour (b. 1959) is a world-renowned Senegalese pop star. He was born into a devout Muslim home in Dakar to Elimane N’Dour and Ndèye Sokhna Mboup. His mother and grandmother (Marie Sène Mawo) come from a line of griots, a tradition which N’Dour carries on as a self-proclaimed “modern griot.” N’Dour began singing casually at the age of twelve at public celebrations (weddings, baptisms, and kassak ceremonies which celebrate the end of circumcisions), joined a local theater group (Sine Dramatique) at fourteen, and was recruited to Star Band de Dakar in 1975. After his first radio recording circulated widely in Senegal in 1978, N’Dour’s growing reputation allowed him to break off from Star Band with several other previous members to form Étoile de Dakar in 1979. Two years later, Étoile fractured once again with N’Dour creating Le Super Étoile de Dakar and El Hadji Faye leading Étoile 2000. N’Dour was among several musicians and groups who began experimenting with the mbalax sound but most scholars credit him with both naming the genre and making it famous by moving Senegalese drum parts (tama and sabar rhythms) to electronic instruments. Before he had gained any attention internationally, he had already been a part of at least thirty albums on cassette. N’Dour made his first appearance in Europe in 1983 and his reputation grew rapidly. Not long after, he collaborated with musicians such as Peter Gabriel and Paul Simon. He gained more attention for his albums Nelson Mandela (1985) and Immigrés (1988) and his presence in the Amnesty International “Human Rights Now!” tour in 1988, which marked the beginning of his history of activism. However, it was his 1994 single “7 Seconds” with Neneh Cherry that made him an international star. N’Doour’s newfound fame did not pull him away from Senegal. He invested in Dakar and opened the Thiossane night club, Xippi recording studio (formerly SAPROM production company), record label Jololi (now renamed Prince Arts), and Futurs Medias media group. In 2004 he won a Grammy for Egypt—an Islamic praise album made in collaboration with the Fathy Salama Orchestra. N’Dour has also been chosen as the winner of the Polar Music Prize (2013) and the Praemium Imperiale (2017). His most recent international albums are Africa Rekk (2016) and History (2019). Outside his musical career, N’Dour ran for Senegalese president in 2012, but was disqualified for not having enough signatures. However, he has held various ministerial positions under President Macky Sall.

SOKKIE DANCING IN PRETORIA: POPULAR AFRIKAANS MUSIC, DANCE, AND IDENTITY

Afrikaans protest music influenced by rock has received a substantial degree of academic attention in recent years. While significant, the emphasis on Afrikaans protest music has left Afrikaans pop music largely unexamined. As this genre enjoys wide popularity amongst Afrikaners, this article considers this lacuna in academic inquiry. Afrikaans pop music is widely consumed in South Africa and is a major part of its music industry. In this article, I bring into focus how a strand of music, that might seem to avoid meaningful dialogue through superficial lyrics, forms part of an Afrikaner subculture and a strategy to preserve identity, norms, and values. In particular, I argue for a wider contextual understanding of music and the limitations of lyrical analysis to produce meaningful insight into music’s role in enabling participants to negotiate identity and place. Drawing on fieldwork conducted at Presley’s, a night club in Pretoria, I elucidate this process through the dialogue between Afrikaans music and sokkie dance.

Social Construction of Commercial Sex Workers at Nightclub in Palangka Raya

This study aims to analyze Commercial Sex Workers (CSWs) in night clubs in the city of Palangka Raya with a review of social construction. Data obtained based on the results of in depth interviews during the months of June to August 2018 with three CSWs who are willing to be interviewed are supported from relevant secondary data. The data is processed based on qualitative research principles based on the type of case study research. In the results of this study it was found that the CSWs could be independent or take shelter under the agency in the night club. This CSWs network generally starts from working as a Sales Promotion Girl (SPG) or song guide to the sexy dancer at the night club.

EXTERNAL FACTORS OF JUVENILE DELINQUENCY AMONG STUDENTS IN THE AREA OF TRADITIONAL NIGHT CLUB

Nowadays, world is challenged a condition in which case the number of adolescent are bigger than before, but, this group of age are also facing the health and social problem such juvenile delinquency. External factors became the trigger factor of them, such as peer’s influence and environment. This study aims to estimate the prevalence of juvenile delinquency and clearly identify external factors toward juvenile delinquency among students who live in the area of traditional night club. A cross sectional study was conducted among 369 students aged 11 to 16 years old. A total sampling was drawn from 2 Junior High Schools near Traditional Night Club in Samarinda. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire in Bahasa Indonesia. Variables measured include socio-demographic criteria, peers’ and environmental influence and juvenile delinquency. Data was analyzed trough descriptive statistic and multiple linier regression.Results indicated that the prevalence of juvenile delinquency among student ages 11-16 years was high (69.7%). This study showed that peers influence and environment contribute to juvenile delinquency. Simultaneously, peers and environment also influence juvenile delinquency (p-value<0.0001). The result suggested the existence of school-based program for healthy adolescent as a ways to provide a better information and health community in school.

To Tweet for Solidarity or Just Report the News? Comparing Social Media Strategies of Spanish- and English-language TV Networks

This article examines Twitter use among the top U.S. Spanish- and English-language television news networks during a significant breaking news event: the Orlando, Florida, shooting at Pulse Night Club on June 12, 2016. The study used a qualitative methodology and used the conceptual framework of ambient journalism to compare how Spanish- and English-language networks used social media to cover both the Latinx and LGBTQ communities, and to what extent these networks attempted to engage with audiences. The study found that Spanish-language media engaged with the Latinx and LGBTQ communities to a greater extent than English-language media. Findings also suggest that despite the advent of new digital that news networks have at their disposal, such as Twitter, their production and dissemination behaviors have not changed in a significant way.

MAHASISWA HEDONISME NIGHT CLUBBER AND LIFESTYLE (Terhadap Pola Perilaku Mahasiswa Pada Tempat Hiburan Night Club Di Kota Malang)

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara gaya hidup hedonis dengan perilaku kosnsumtif pada remaja. Hipotesis dalam penelitian adalah terdapat hubungan positif antara gaya hidup hedonis adanya kebutuhan konsumen akan hiburan yang juga harus dipenuhi. Salah satu hiburan yang ditawarkan adalah tempat hiburan night club yang hingga saat ini masih banyak yang tertarik untuk di kunjungi. Mayoritas pengunjung berasal dari kalangan mahasiswa. Mahasiswa yang melakukan clubbing secara berulang-ulang telah membentuk pola perilaku. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori Erving Goffman tentang Dramaturgi. Penelitian ini mengunakan metode penelitian kepustakaan atau library research Tahapan perkembangan yang terjadi dalam Pola Perilaku Mahasiswa Pada Tempat Hiburan Night Club Di Kota Malang.Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa terdapat pola perilaku mahasiswa di malang sebgai clubbers sekarang yang terbagi menjadi dua wilayah yaitu dengan panggung depan dan panggung belakang. Pada panggung depan mahasiswa clubbers mempresentasikan dirinya sesuai dengan status sosial yang dimilikinya yaitu sebagai mahasiswa dan sesuai dengan nilai pada umumnya di masyarakat. Selain itu terdapat tim yang dibentuk untuk menjaga pertunjukan di panggung depan. Sedangkan pada panggung belakang terdapat aktivitas yang disembunyikan yaitu aktivitas mengunjungi night club (clubbing) yang rata-rata dilakukan sebanyak 2 sampai 3 kali dalam seminggu. Beberapa aktivitas yang dilakukan di night club antara lain seperti merokok, menikmati lagu, minum alkohol, menari. Masyarakat menganggap aktivitas clubbing merupakan aktivitas negatif. Sehingga menurut masyarakat, mahasiswa tidak pantas melakukan aktivitas tersebut, karena menurut pandangan masyarakat bahwa mahasiswa adalah calon intelektual yang dapat memecahkan permasalahan kehidupan dalam masyarakat.menjadi memerlukan perubahan penampilan dan gaya dari panggung belakang ke panggung depan atau sebaliknya, dalam Goffman hal tersebut disebut sebagai manajemen kesan.
