The article not only critically assesses school practice based on the Polish concept of music education and some assumptions and demands of pop-cultural education, but also proposes alternative solutions. The overriding idea is the necessity to base education (which should be the practice of music rather than learning about music) on contemporary works with undeniable artistic values. Looking for such works, the author relies on his own classification, in which the basic categories are ‘subtlety’, ‘originality, uniqueness’ and ‘the creator’s intention’.

This article contributes to remedying the paucity of biographical information about Australian luminary accounting figures in the first half of the twentieth-century, a period of enormous change and development in the accounting profession, particularly in relation to its organisational structure, international links, literature, intellectual base, education and role in relation to government in both peace- and war-time. It is argued that no individual luminary is more neglected by biographers, yet deserving of extended biographical treatment, than Sir Edwin Van-der-Vord Nixon, one of the great figures in Australian accounting, whose eponymous firm was a critical antecedent to the present day EY Australia. Nixon’s career spanned the crucially important ‘coming of age’ period in Australian accounting. The key evolutionary developments in Australian accounting that provided the foundation for the modern profession are the backdrop against which Nixon’s lifelong career in accounting can be observed.

The positive correlation between expected wages of workers and additional steps of education attainment has been studied extensively, as well as inverse relation between education level in the country and unemployment rate. Thus, it is important to analyze education and labor markets in relation, more so with the presence of imperfections in these markers. Coordination may fail on markets of asymmetric information when there are high and low quality products, which are indistinguishable. This can cause degradation of the market. In order to avoid it, motivations of each side should be aligned correctly on education and labor markets. This can only be achieved if the education system is constructed with right motivators for both sides right from the base. Education cannot be a useful signal to employers if educational attainment cannot be used as a way of distinguishing employee’s skills from others’.
