Multi-scale Modeling of Polymeric Composites Including Nanoporous Fillers of Milled Anodic Alumina

A polymer composite based on an innovative filler consisting of microscale powder of nanoporous alumina is modeled. The passing-through nanoscale pores in this system—roughly columnar cylindrical, with diameter of the order of 100 nm—are fully penetrated by the resin, which is not bonded to the inner pore walls by any chemical agent. This system, previously assessed by laboratory experiments, is modeled here for the first time, based on a computational multi-scale hierarchical approach. First, microscale representative volume element (RVE) is modeled in two steps using finite element modeling. Then, the macro-scale RVE is characterized, using a combination of micromechanical rules. The elastic response of the composite is simulated to predict its Young’s modulus. This simulation confirms the former experimental results and helps to shed light on the response of the investigated material, which may represent a novel system for use in disparate composite applications. In particular, the nanoporous microfillers composite is compared with a composite material containing the fillers of the same material yet nonporous, bonded to the matrix. It appears that, with respect to this standard concept of three-phase composites, the presence of the nanopores can compensate for the absence of the bonding agent.

GSM Based Underground Cable Open and Short Circuit Fault Detection

The underground cable system is a common practice followed in many urban areas. While a fault occurs for some reason, at that time the repairing process related to that particular cable is difficult due to not knowing the exact location of the cable fault. Hence, the main objective of this project is to determine the distance of underground cable fault from base station in kilometers using an Arduino board and GSM. The project uses the standard concept of Ohms law and voltage division rule to detect and locate the fault. The fault occurring at a particular distance and the respective phase is displayed on a LCD interfaced to the Arduino board and information regarding fault occurrence is sent to control areas using GSM modules.

Mining long-COVID symptoms from Reddit: characterizing post-COVID syndrome from patient reports

Our objective was to mine Reddit to discover long-COVID symptoms self-reported by users, compare symptom distributions across studies, and create a symptom lexicon. We retrieved posts from the /r/covidlonghaulers subreddit and extracted symptoms via approximate matching using an expanded meta-lexicon. We mapped the extracted symptoms to standard concept IDs, compared their distributions with those reported in recent literature and analyzed their distributions over time. From 42 995 posts by 4249 users, we identified 1744 users who expressed at least 1 symptom. The most frequently reported long-COVID symptoms were mental health-related symptoms (55.2%), fatigue (51.2%), general ache/pain (48.4%), brain fog/confusion (32.8%), and dyspnea (28.9%) among users reporting at least 1 symptom. Comparison with recent literature revealed a large variance in reported symptoms across studies. Temporal analysis showed several persistent symptoms up to 15 months after infection. The spectrum of symptoms identified from Reddit may provide early insights about long-COVID.

The Standard Concept of the Advocate Profession in Implementing Professional Advocate

The law stipulates what should or should be done and what is prohibited. The principle of a rule of law requires, among other things, the guarantee of equality for everyone before the law (equality before the law). Therefore, the Constitution also stipulates that everyone has the right to recognition, guarantee, protection, and legal certainty that is just equal treatment before the law. From a philosophical point of view, the Legis standard ratio of the advocate profession is to guarantee the protection of human rights by the conceptual objectives of the state of law. Meanwhile, the legal reason is to guarantee legal protection. both for the benefit of the client and the benefit of the advocate himself, so that disputes between advocates and clients can be avoided which are built based on trust.

Toleration and Political Philosophy

Toleration is a classic category of Western political theory. Liberalism can be said to have evolved as a generalization of debates on religious toleration from the 17th century onward. Many debates in political theory about matters of current concern, ranging from debates about free speech and hate-speech legislation, over attitudes to practices of minority groups, to the legitimate extent of state interference in particular areas of social life, are framed as debates on toleration. Finally, some of the most prominent theories within political philosophy view toleration as a central concept, for example, Rawls’s political liberalism. This continuous presence of the notion of toleration within political philosophy has resulted in a standard definition of toleration and a set of standard debates about toleration. Toleration is standardly understood as requiring disapproval or dislike, the power to interfere, and to consist in the abstention from this interference. This has given rise to debates about which kinds of disapproval or dislike are required, whether the condition of power is in itself problematic, and whether noninterference only counts as toleration if motivated by certain kinds of reasons. Nevertheless, this standard concept of toleration curiously fails to capture some of the prominent debates that are often framed in terms of toleration. It is for instance not at all clear whether and how the standard concept applies to states and to individuals regulated by state laws. It is also often unclear whether toleration as defined is a normative ideal or merely a descriptive concept and what the point of using the concept is in either case. Finally, there is surprising little reflection on what the significance is of the space of toleration between interference and lack of disapproval or dislike, and how changes in this space of toleration can be understood.

Self-reported COVID-19 symptoms on Twitter: an analysis and a research resource

Objective To mine Twitter and quantitatively analyze COVID-19 symptoms self-reported by users, compare symptom distributions across studies, and create a symptom lexicon for future research. Materials and Methods We retrieved tweets using COVID-19-related keywords, and performed semiautomatic filtering to curate self-reports of positive-tested users. We extracted COVID-19-related symptoms mentioned by the users, mapped them to standard concept IDs in the Unified Medical Language System, and compared the distributions to those reported in early studies from clinical settings. Results We identified 203 positive-tested users who reported 1002 symptoms using 668 unique expressions. The most frequently-reported symptoms were fever/pyrexia (66.1%), cough (57.9%), body ache/pain (42.7%), fatigue (42.1%), headache (37.4%), and dyspnea (36.3%) amongst users who reported at least 1 symptom. Mild symptoms, such as anosmia (28.7%) and ageusia (28.1%), were frequently reported on Twitter, but not in clinical studies. Conclusion The spectrum of COVID-19 symptoms identified from Twitter may complement those identified in clinical settings.

Improving the performance of a SVM+HOG classifier for detection and tracking of wagon components by using geometric constraints

The inspection of train and railway components that can cause derailment plays a key role in rail maintenance. To improve productivity and safety, service providers look for automatic and reliable inspection solutions. Although automatic inspection based on computer vision is a standard concept, such an application challenges development community due to the environmental and logistic factors to be considered. Previous publications presented automatic classifiers to evaluate integrity and placement of wagon components. Although the high classification accuracy reported, ineffective object detection affected the general performance. Our object detector/tracker consists of a descriptor based on the histogram of oriented gradients, a support vector machine classifier, and a set of geometric constraints, which takes in account the ideal trajectory path of the wagon’s components of interest and the distances between them. We detail training and validation procedures, together with the metrics used to assess the performance of the system. Presented results compare two other techniques with our approach, which exhibits a fair trade-off between reliability and computational complexity for the application of wagon component detection.

A Review on the Adoption of Agile Methods in the Technology Development for Smart Cities

Smart cities are a standard concept of automated and sustainable cities that adopt technology to increase efficiency in communication, management and globalization of information. Despite the success of the concept, there is an emerging need to develop and deploy software and software-based systems for these cities. Thus, agile methodologies can play an important role, once they are broadly adopted in systems development lifecycle. This paper presents the result of a systematic mapping conducted on agile processes to develop software for smart cities. A systematic mapping identified 246 studies, from which 10 were selected for analysis and presentation of the results obtained.

Konsep Standar Halte dan Hentian Angkutan Perdesaan

Rural transportation system is far behind when compared with urban transportation which resulted in decrease of rural transport demand. Therefore, for increasing the rural transport demand is needed a standards and concepts of rural transport for improving transport services both in infrastructure and facilities. Bus stop for rural transport is One of the support facilities that no avilable. This standar involves a specific standard for rural transport. The study was conducted in Jember and District Kalianda. The method used in this study is a qualitative and quantitative analysis. Analyses were performed using standard guidelines stop I stops of public transport which will be further developed a standard stop for rural transport. The analysis is based on the major facilities and supporting public transport standards issued by the Directorate General of Land Transportation can not be met properly. In other hands, planning of bus stop is appropriate but layout of bus stops at the intersection is outside the specified minimum standards. To obtain the size of the standard concept of bus stop (length: 3m-5meter ), location of bus stops that have noticed the condition of the land use and supporting facilities of bus stop such as pedestrian markings should be provided.Keywords: rural, bus stop, rural transport Sistem transportasi perdesaan memang jauh ketinggalan jika dibanding dengan transportasi perkotaan yang berakibat pada kurang diminatinya angkutan perdesaan. Untuk itu diperlukan suatu standar-standar dan konsep peningkatan pelayanan angkutan perdesan baik dari sisi prasarana dan sarana maupun dari kompenen utama dan komponen penunjang. Salah satu fasilitas pendukung yang belum ada standarnya adalah halte dan tempat hentian untuk angkutan perdesaan. Untuk itu diperlukan suatu standar khusus untuk angkutan perdesaan. Penelitian dilakukan di Kabupaten ]ember dan Kabupaten Kalianda. Berdasarkan hasil analisis diperoleh bahwa fasilitas utama dan penunjang sesuai standar angkutan umum yang dikeluarkan oleh Ditjen Perhubungan Darat tidak dapat terpenuhi dengan baik sedangkan dari sisi perencanaan sudah sesuai kecuali letak halte dengan persimpangan masih diluar standar minimum yang telah ditentukan. Untuk konsep standar halte diperoleh ukuran halte (panjang 5 meter-3meter), lokasi halte yang telah memperhatikan kondisi tata guna lahan dan fasilitas pendukung halte seperti marka penyeberang jalan harus disediakan.Kata Kunci : perdesaan, halte, angkutan perdesaan
