One of the limitations of African yam bean (AYB) (Sphenostylis sternocarpa) is poor storage ability due to the adverse effect of seed-borne fungi. This study was conducted to examine the effects of storage methods on nutritive composition of AYB  seeds stored in three types of storage materials viz; jute bags, polypropylene bags and plastic bowls. Freshly harvested AYB seeds were stored in all the storage materials for 6 months using 2 × 3 factorial (2 AYB cultivars and 3 storage methods) in 3 replicates. The proximate analysis of the stored AYB seeds was carried out at 3 and 6 months after storage using standard methods. The temperature and relative humidity of the store room were recorded monthly. Seeds stored in jute bags gave the best values for crude protein (24.87%), ash (5.69%) and fat content (6.64%) but recorded least values for crude fibre (2.55%), carbohydrate (50.86%) and moisture content (12.68%) at the 6th month of storage. Temperature of the store room decreased from 32.9 ºC - 28.3ºC, while the relative humidity increased from 78% - 86%. Decreased incidence of field fungi namely: Rhizopus oryzae, Aspergillus flavus, Geotricum candidum, Aspergillus fumigatus and Mucor meihei was accompanied by increase in storage fungi viz: Apergillus niger, Mucor hiemalis, Penicillium espansum and Penicillium atrovenetum with prolonged storage. The study showed that out of the three storage materials, jute bag was more effective in preserving AYB seeds.

Apple storage under lower concentration of oxygen (1.0-1.3% in some cases lower than 1%) in controlled atmosphere cold stores is described as apple storage in ultra-low oxygen cold store. Ultra-low oxygen store room is an airtight gas cold room and its atmosphere is composed of lower rate of oxygen and higher amount of CO2. It has been Investigated and recorded that ultra-low oxygen cold store extends storage life of apple varieties (Royal Gala, Red Delicious, Idared, Jonagold and Golden delicious) from 3 to 6 months under common cold stores to 7-11 months with preserving its nutritional, sensorial and biological parameters and characteristics after harvest. For storage of apples in Afghanistan, mostly simple and cold storerooms are applied but inadequately and with local methods and facilities, due to application of ultra-low oxygen cold storage both can benefitfarmers, customers and economic growth of the country. Purpose Patients with extended hospital admissions had no recreation facilities in the ward. They were often confined to spaces around their beds, using the ward corridor for rehabilitation. The purpose of this paper is to outline a quality improvement (QI) intervention-provision of a recreational space for long-stay patients. Design/methodology/approach An exploratory quantitative pre-, post-test design was utilised, and executed in three phases: patients, visitors and staff survey to explore recreation and comfort needs and preferences; store room refurbishment; and patient, visitor and staff satisfaction with the recreation room. Findings Overall, 77 questionnaires were completed (n=49 staff; n=28 patient/visitor). Almost two-thirds (64.7 per cent; n=11) of patients had a stay greater than six weeks. Insufficient private space and concerns about disturbing other patients were identified as barriers to taking part in activities. Consequently, a store room was refurbished as a recreation room (9.0 m × 6.0 m) and furnished in three distinct areas. Following refurbishment, over 90 per cent (n=24) of respondents agreed that there was a suitable space where patients could “go and chat” and spend time with family and visitors or speak to the healthcare team. Practical implications The physical environment in acute hospitals is seldom prioritised. Needs-based QI projects can improve patient hospital experiences. Originality/value This case study highlights how nursing staff can be informed by patients’ and families’ needs and preferences, and initiate QI projects that improve patient hospital experiences.

The aim of the project is to build an assembly station with the preventive section under the process of poke yoke system. Poke yoke is the general methodology following in industry to avoid mismatching product in assembly stations.  The main aim of this project is to avoid assembling process when the sequential procedure is not followed. The project also deals with AGV – Automatic Guided Vehicle. It automatically shifts the assembling components from store room to work station when the count of components decreases in storage bin. When the material count in the storage bins reaches the preset count it will pass signal to store room, the components will be filled manually in AGV storage bins and then the AGV is moved to the destination point (work station).

AbstractPlums are one of the most popular, perspective and frequently consumed fruits in Latvia. Plums are typical climacteric fruits, respiration occurs during ripening. Respiration rate is mainly associated with synthesis of autocatalytic ethylene and depends of the cultivar of fruits. Metabolic processes occurring during plum storage cause changes in fruit quality. The aim of this work was to determine the effect of treatment by 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) on physical and chemical characteristics and sensory qualities of five plum (Prunus domesticaL.) cultivar fruits (‘Adele’, ‘Sonora’, ‘Victoria’, ‘Stanley’, ‘Minjona’) during four weeks of storage in a cool store-room at temperature 3±1 °C. The following analyses were performed to evaluate quality changes during storage: mass loss, concentration of total acids and soluble solids, firmness, and sensory qualities (colour, flavour, acidity, sweetness, firmness, and stone adherence). The study showed that treatment with 1-MCP had positive effect on fruit firmness during four weeks of plum storage, and there were significant differences in the content of total acids and soluble solids between 1-MCP-treated and control plum fruits. The results indicated that there were no significant differences in flavour (aroma) and colour between treated and untreated plum fruits, while 1-MCP-treated fruits were firmer and more sour.
