Traditional, data-driven materials discovery involves screening chemical systems with machine learning algorithms and selecting candidates that excel in a target property. The number of screening candidates grows infinitely large as the fractional resolution of compositions the number of included elements increases. The computational infeasibility and probability of overlooking a successful candidate grow likewise. Our approach shifts the optimization focus from model parameters to the fractions of each element in a composition. Using a pretrained network, CrabNet, and writing a custom loss function to govern a vector of element fractions, compositions can be optimized such that a predicted property is maximized or minimized. Single and multi-property optimization examples are presented that highlight the capabilities and robustness of this approach to inverse design.

Liu Zongzhou 劉宗周 (personal name Xianzhang 憲章, courtesy name Qidong 起東, literary names Niantai 念台, Jishan 蕺山; b. 1578–d. 1645) was an important Neo-Confucian thinker in the late Ming dynasty (1368–1644) of China. Born as a posthumous child in Shanyin (Shaoxing) of the Zhejiang province, he was brought up by his mother, educated by his maternal grandfather and became a successful candidate of the metropolitan and palace examination in 1601. In 1621, as the Supplementary Secretary in the Ministry of Rites, he began to impeach the corrupt but powerful eunuch Wei Zongxian. In 1624, he declined the offer to be Junior Vice Commissioner of the Office of Transmission, and his status was reduced to that of a commoner. In 1629, he resumed office as the governor of Shuntian Prefecture, and resigned the next year to establish the Zhengren 證人 Association and to lecture at the Shigui 石匱 Academy. In 1636, he became Senior Vice Minister of Works. Yet he soon resigned to criticize the Senior Grand Secretary Wen Tiren 溫體仁, and this led to the degradation of his status to a commoner again. In 1642, he was promoted to Censor-in-chief, but he was relieved of his office when he antagonized the emperor by trying to save two censorial officials. During the fall of Beijing, he resumed his office as Censor-in-chief. He attacked the corrupt officials Ma Shiying 馬士英 and Ruan Dacheng 阮大鋮 and finally left his office. His official career lasted for forty-five years, during which he had held office six and a half years, was in active service at court only four years, and had been degraded to the status of commoner three times. With the fall of Nanjing and Hangzhou in succession to the Manchus and his decision to express his loyalty and patriotism to the country, he ended his life by fasting for twenty days. Liu distinguished himself as a Neo-Confucian philosopher and scholar. The main doctrines of his teaching are “vigilance in solitude” (shendu慎獨) and “sincerity of will” (chengyi誠意), which originate from the two Confucian classics Doctrine of the Mean and Great Learning. Huang Zongxi 黃宗羲 (b. 1610–d. 1695), his important disciple and a well-known intellectual historian, placed him and his school of thought in the last part of Huang’s influential work, The Records of Ming Scholars. Huang not only compared him to the most significant Neo-Confucian philosophers, but also hinted that his philosophy signified the final summation of the Neo-Confucian tradition from the Song to Ming dynasties. He is commonly regarded as one of the most important Song-Ming Neo-Confucian thinkers. It is the creativity and depth of his philosophy that deserves scholars’ attention.

AbstractThe relationship between a PhD candidate and their supervisor is influential in not only successful candidate completion, but maintaining candidate satisfaction and mental health. We quantified potential mismatches between the PhD candidates and supervisors expectations as a potential mechanism that facilitates poor candidate experiences and research training outcomes. 114 PhD candidates and 52 supervisors ranked the importance of student attributes and outcomes at the beginning and end of candidature. In relation to specific attributes, supervisors indicated the level of guidance they expected to give the candidate and candidates indicated the level of guidance they expected to receive. Candidates also report on whether different aspects of candidature influenced their mental well-being. We identified differences between candidates and supervisors perceived supervisor teaching responsibility and influences on mental well-being. Our results indicate that the majority of candidates were satisfied overall with their supervision, and find alignment of many expectations between both parties. Yet, we find that candidates have much higher expectations of achieving quantitative outcomes than supervisors. Supervisors believed they give more guidance to candidates than candidates perceive they received, and supervisors often only provided guidance when the candidate explicitly asked. Personal expectations and research progress significantly and negatively influenced over 50% of candidate’s mental well-being. Our results highlight the importance of candidates and supervisors explicitly communicating the responsibilities and expectations of the roles they play in helping candidates develop research skills. We provide four suggestions to supervisors that may be particularly effective at increasing communication, avoiding potential conflict and promoting candidate success and wellbeing.

Paper Alloys like aluminum are substantially used in vehicle industries and aerospace the density is lower and appropriate mechanical houses, higher resistance to corrosion and to put on, low thermal expansion coefficient compared to traditional metals and alloys. The super-mechanical housing of such products and their relatively low production costs make them really successful candidate for the medical and technological advancement of projects. Fully casting composite-based aluminum alloy manufacturing with the aid of casting stir, the inside, one of MMC's most budget central budget management concept. The primary goal This paper consists of the development of metallic aluminum matrix composite with specific mix of Silicon Carbide Via reinforcement debris using stir casting approach and Al-SiC MMCs hardness measured using Vickers hardness method.

オープンソースの統計ソフトウェアである jamovi が有償ソフトウェアに比べて,統計教育のためのツールとして何がどのように優れているかを論じ,jamovi による統計分析の例を解説した。/ We proposed that open-source statistical software “jamovi” is a successful candidate of educational tool in statistics, because it has a user-friendly GUI and is based on powerful statistical programming language R. In this paper, we argued the potential benefits of “jamovi” and introduced how it works with typical statistical testing.

<p>This research is motivated by the election of Neneng Hasanah Yasin-Rohim Mintareja who defeated incumbent regional head and deputy head of the Bekasi area in the elections of 2012. The local elections showed a dynamic voter behavior of society. Clientelism practices allegedly occurred in the victory Neneng Hasanah Yasin. The focus of this study is to analyse voting behavior of people in the District Sukatani which has characteristics as agricultural area. Sukatani sub-district is one of the districts that form the basis for Neneng Hasanah Yasin victory. As an analytical tool, the used theory is clientelism. The method used is a quantitative study with a questionnaire as a data collector. Data analysis technique uses cross tabulation. The number of samples in this study is 100 people with a 95% confidence level and a margin of error of 10%. The results of this study indicates that for some indicators clientelism has no difference in voting behavior Sukatani society, such as indicators of the popularity the parents candidates, formal official invitation, informal official invitation, and professional groups invitation. Even for indicators of indebtedness does not exist at all. While indicators have differences on the invitation team is successful candidate.</p>

I will start with the statistics indicating that the objects named in the title of my talk are either non-existing or very elusive to detect (not a single such object is known against 119 known Be/neutron star X-ray binaries). After brief reviewing of the properties of Be/X-ray binaries I discuss several objects that were proposed as the long sought for candidates for Be/black hole X-ray binaries. After three unsuccessful candidates (LS I +61° 303, LS 5039 and MAXI J1836-194), a successful candidate (AGL J2241+4454/MWC 656) was finally, very recently, announced.
