Aligned Nanorods of AlPO4-5 Within the Pores of Anodic Alumina

<p>Anodic aluminium oxide has been identified as a versatile porous template material having high pore density, (up to 1010 cm-2), controllable channel length and monodisperse pore diameter within the range 20-250 nm. A number of studies have demonstrated the concept of utilizing the porous structure for directing the growth of various nanostructures. An example of this is the growth of crystals of the aluminophosphate AlPO4-5 within the anodic nanochannels. The high aspect ratio of the template pores encourages growth of the crystals in the preferred c-axis orientation. We have produced membranes of this material and investigated the degree of crystal alignment using X-ray diffraction. The relative degree of preferred orientation is over 200 for a typical membrane. Field emission SEM micrographs clearly show the aligned crystals within the pores. The inclusion of luminescent guest molecules within the pores of the zeolite has also been achieved. This work describes the synthesis, characterization and potential application of these membranes.</p>

Monodisperse molybdenum disulfide nanoparticles were synthesized in mesopores of spherical silica particles (mSiO2) served as a template. First, the pores of mSiO2 particles were impregnated with the precursor (ammonium tetrathiomolybdate solution). Then, the reduction of the filler in thermodynamically equilibrium conditions in H2S/H2 atmosphere was carried out. The template material (a-SiO2) was selectively etched from the composite mSiO2/MoS2 particles with HF to obtain individual MoS2 nanoparticles. The mean size of MoS2 nanoparticles determined by microscopic methods was found to be 3.5 nm. According to dynamic light scattering data, the nanoparticles had low size scatter (18%).

Ag2Cu2O3 – a catalyst template material for selective electroreduction of CO to C2+ products

Employing Ag2Cu2O3, a mixed metal oxide, as a template catalyst material for electrochemical reduction of CO enables generation of multi-carbon products with a faradaic efficiency of close to 92%, at a current density of 600 mA cm−2.

Gallium nitride nanorods with a 15- 40 nm diameter and a 50-150 nm length have been synthesized in monodisperse spherical mesoporous silica particles (MSMSP) by high-temperature annealing the Ga2O3 precursor in ammonia. The template material (a-SiO2) was selectively removed by etching the composite MSMSP/GaN particles in HF. The individual GaN nanorods were thus obtained. It is shown, that the size of GaN nanorods was much higher than the pore size of MSMSP (diameter ~3 nm, length ~10 nm). The possible mechanism of formation of GaN nanorods was proposed. Redistribution of material inside the composite particles MSMSP/GaN possibly occurred by surface diffusion of gaseous molecules in mesopores and by diffusion of Ga and N atoms in a-SiO2.

Cation exchange synthesis of CuInxGa1−xSe2 nanowires and their implementation in photovoltaic devices

Monodisperse spherical nanoporous silicon ( np -Si) particles of submicrometer size are fabricated with mesoporous silica particles as a template. Silicon is synthesized within the mesopores of monodisperse silica particles by the thermal decomposition of monosilane. Then, the template material ( a -SiO_2) is removed by wet etching. The particles obtained have a small root-mean-square size scatter (no more than 10%) and large specific surface area (250 m^2 g^–1) and pore volume (0.5 cm^3 g^–1). It is shown that np -Si particles exhibit photoluminescence in the visible and near-IR (infrared) spectral ranges.
