It is pointed out that the phase convention of the CKM matrix V affects texture analysis of the quark mass matrices (Mu,Md) when we try to describe (Mu,Md) by the observable quantities (quark masses and CKM matrix parameters) only. This is demonstrated for a case of non-Hermitian Fritzsch-type mass matrix [Formula: see text], which is a general expression of quark mass matrix (Mu,Md) and is described by 12 parameters. We find that we can always choose a phase convention of V which yields [Formula: see text], so that the remaining ten parameters in [Formula: see text], can be completely expressed by the ten observable quantities.

We introduce several sets of parameters, which are rephasing-invariant and possess well-defined properties, to describe violation of CP, T and CPT symmetries in the [Formula: see text] system. It is pointed out that those parameters which signal T and CPT violations but not CP violation are not well constrained experimentally yet. We further introduce a set of rephasing-dependent (= phase-convention-dependent) parameters and investigate how they are related to our rephasing-invariant (= phase-convention-independent) parameters. In this way, advantages and disadvantages of and relations among various parametrizations are stated clearly.

It is found that the pole model which includes the decuplet pole contributions in the weak radiative decays of hyperons fails to give the correct sign of the Σ+ → pγ asymmetry parameters α, although the magnitude of the decay rate and of α are consistent with the present experimental data. This conclusion holds in the Rarita–Schwinger formalism. Earlier calculations are incorrect due mainly to an error in the spin-3/2 propagator used in the theory, and inconsistencies in the SU(3) phase convention.

The importance of gamma–gamma–gamma angular correlation in order to study the absolute sign of 'δ', the amplitude mixing ratio of gamma transitions, independent of phase convention is given. A study of the triple gamma-rays cascade of 298 keV → 879 keV → 87 keV in 160Dy from the decay of 160Tb has been done.
