The Survey Program of Ernő Foerk on the Türbe of Pécs

Ernő Foerk (1868-1934) born 150 years ago has significant oeuvre in the field of monument preservation and architectural education. As professor, one of his achievements was the organisation of summer survey camps named as ‘szünidei felvételek’ (vacation records) which was also accessible in published form. In the year of 1917 under his supervision, his students have surveyed all the scored Ottoman monuments of Hungary. In the following year these survey drawings were published with a brief summary of the history of Ottoman architecture in the territory of Hungary. Our paper is to submit the general circumstances of the Ottoman survey program supervised by Ernő Foerk with its historical background and the analysis of the methodology of the survey by the example of the türbe of Pécs.

The history of the summer survey of the Hungarian Royal Public Higher Architectural School – in the mirror of collection resources

After studying in Budapest and Wien, Ernő Foerk first became an assistant to Imre Steindl at the Royal Joseph’s Polytechnic and later he started teaching at the Hungarian Royal Public Higher Architectural Industrial School. The practice of holiday surveys which is largely based on the experience gained in Wiener Bauhütte in Wien can be captured as a link between these two activities. Foerk’s full teaching activity was followed by the holiday paths he had with his students. These of course were also inextricably linked with the activities of the cultural heritage management at this time; the drawings made at that time were included in the National Committee of Monuments. Processing of the group in question may raise new issues of the history of architecture and scientific history possibly for wellknown monuments, sometimes for one person, as well as for a comprehensive look at Foerk’s model which has been previously sporadically examined.

Proposição de ações metodológicas para inserção das dimensões de equidade nas aulas de Matemática

Resumo: Esta pesquisa destaca aspectos da equidade que surgem diante das dificuldades encontradas nas aulas de Matemática. As vivências e oportunidades adquiridas pelo aluno de intercâmbio são ilimitadas. Assim, optamos por apresentar o estudo preliminar de uma pesquisa de verão, realizada na Michigan StateUniversity (MSU), no estado de Michigan, EUA, que consiste no desenvolvimento de uma ferramenta, Equity Quantified In Participation (EQUIP), capaz de quantificar a participação dos alunos nas aulas de Matemática.O tratamento metodológico adotado compreende uma tipologia de abordagem qualitativa e exploratória que contribuiu para o esclarecimento de questões ligadas a equidade nas aulas de Matemática, tendo por base a observação participante a partir de um intercâmbio internacional.Contudo, contribuiu para a elaboração de uma proposição de ações metodológicas através das dimensões de equidade nas aulas de Matemática, que tem o intuito de auxiliar nas pesquisas e práticas matemáticas.Palavras-chave: Acesso; Realização; Identidade; Poder. The experiences and opportunities acquired by the exchange student are unlimited. Thus, we chose to present the preliminary study of a summer survey, conducted at Michigan State University (MSU), Michigan, USA, which consists of the development of a tool, Equity Quantified In Participation (EQUIP), able to quantify the participation in mathematics classes. The methodological approach adopted includes a typology of a qualitative and exploratory approach that contributed to the clarification of issues related to equity in Mathematics classes, based on participant observation from an international exchange.However, he contributed to the elaboration of a proposition of methodological actions through the dimensions of equity in Mathematics classes, which aims to assist in mathematical research and practice.Keywords: Access; Achievement; Identity; Power.

Odonates of three selected tiger reserves of Madhya Pradesh, Central India

Odonates (Damselflies and Dragonflies) were recorded from three Tiger Reserves of Madhya Pradesh, Central India, including Kanha, Pench and Bandhavgarh, where 47 species were recorded within 7 families and 31 genera. We recorded 44 species from Kanha, 41 species from Pench and 37 species from Bandhabgarh Tiger Reserve. Thirty-five species were recorded in all three tiger reserves. Suborder Zygoptera was represented by the families Coenagrionidae, Lestidae, Calopterygidae and Protoneuridae and suborder Anisoptera by the families Gomphidae, Libellulidae and Aeshnidae. Libellulidae was the largest family with 17 genera. In summer survey Orthetrum sabina Drury, 1770 was the most abundant species, while in winter the most abundant was Agriocnemis pygmea Rambur, 1842.

Mapping long-term spatial trends of the Taimyr wild reindeer population

This report presents preliminary results of mapping and analyzing wild reindeer spatial dynamics in Taimyr, Russia. We collected, spatially referenced, and systematized comprehensive aerial and land survey information spanning from 1969 to 2003, which is the most complete long-term data available about a wild reindeer herd in Eurasia. The report introduces some of the mapping products and presents a summary of our observations on spatiotemporal changes in reindeer distribution and migration. Using these data and new digital products in the GIS (Geographic Information Systems) environment, we were able to observe the long-term shift of the Taimyr Reindeer Herd's summer, winter, and calving areas to the east and south with a simultaneous expansion of the habitat. We identified and confirmed locations of large reindeer concentrations (herds) seasonally formed throughout the study period. Using the most recent summer survey data (2009) we also were able to confirm the existence of two major migration flows in the fall: eastern (most reindeer) and western.

Trophic ecology of a coastal fish assemblage in Portuguese waters

The diets and trophic ecology of the dominant fish species from the marine coastal region of Aveiro (north-western Portugal) caught during a summer survey were studied. Mysids were the most important prey group for the fish assemblage analysed. As a consequence, there was a high dietary overlap between species and a low incidence of piscivory. Nevertheless, a clear segregation of trophic niches was observed, with one group (comprising the species Chelidonichthys cuculus, Callionymus lyra, Dicologlossa cuneata and Pomatoschistus lozanoi) showing a stronger preference for infaunal epibenthic prey, such as polychaetes and amphipods, another group (including Arnoglossus imperialis, Arnoglossus laterna, Chelidonichthys obscurus, Chelidonichthys lucernus, Echiichthys vipera, Pagellus acarne and Trisopterus luscus) preying mostly upon suprabenthic prey, mainly mysids, and a third group (Engraulis encrasicolus and Trachurus trachurus) feeding largely on planktonic prey like copepods. Some species, including A. imperialis, C. lyra, E. vipera, T. trachurus and T. luscus, showed ontogenic diet shifts that may be related to the habitat occupied by different size-classes and/or to their ability to capture prey of different size.

Antarctic Intermediate Water and Subantarctic Mode Water Formation in the Southeast Pacific: The Role of Turbulent Mixing

During the 2005 austral winter (late August–early October) and 2006 austral summer (February–mid-March) two intensive hydrographic surveys of the southeast Pacific sector of the Southern Ocean were completed. In this study the turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate ε, diapycnal diffusivity κ, and buoyancy flux Jb are estimated from the CTD/O2 and XCTD profiles for each survey. Enhanced κ of O(10−3 to 10−4 m2 s−1) is found near the Subantarctic Front (SAF) during both surveys. During the winter survey, enhanced κ was also observed north of the “subduction front,” the northern boundary of the winter deep mixed layer north of the SAF. In contrast, the summer survey found enhanced κ across the entire region north of the SAF below the shallow seasonal mixed layer. The enhanced κ below the mixed layer decays rapidly with depth. A number of ocean processes are considered that may provide the energy flux necessary to support the observed diffusivity. The observed buoyancy flux (4.0 × 10−8 m2 s−3) surrounding the SAF during the summer survey is comparable to the mean buoyancy flux (0.57 × 10−8 m2 s−3) associated with the change in the interior stratification between austral summer and autumn, determined from Argo profiles. The authors suggest that reduced ocean stratification during austral summer and autumn, by interior mixing, preconditions the water column for the rapid development of deep mixed layers and efficient Antarctic Intermediate Water and Subantarctic Mode Water formation during austral winter and early spring.
