AbstractIn this work, we solve the system of integro-differential equations (in terms of Caputo–Fabrizio calculus) using the concepts of the best proximity pair (point) and measure of noncompactness. We first introduce the concept of cyclic (noncyclic) Θ-condensing operator for a pair of sets using the measure of noncompactness and then establish results on the best proximity pair (point) on Banach spaces and strictly Banach spaces. In addition, we have illustrated the considered system of integro-differential equations by three examples and discussed the stability, efficiency, and accuracy of solutions.

Best proximity pair results are proved for noncyclic relatively u-continuous condensing mappings. In addition, best proximity points of upper semicontinuous mappings are obtained which are also fixed points of noncyclic relatively u-continuous condensing mappings. It is shown that relative u-continuity of T is a necessary condition that cannot be omitted. Some examples are given to support our results.

Abstract Let A and B be nonempty subsets of a normed linear space X. A mapping T : A ∪ B → A ∪ B is said to be a noncyclic relatively nonexpansive mapping if T(A) ⊆ A, T(B) ⊆ B and ∥Tx − Ty∥ ≤ ∥x − y∥ for all (x, y) ∈ A × B. A best proximity pair for such a mapping T is a point (p, q) ∈ A × B such that p = Tp, q = Tq and d(p, q) = dist(A, B). In this work, we introduce a geometric notion of proximal Opiaľs condition on a nonempty, closed and convex pair of subsets of strictly convex Banach spaces. By using this geometric notion, we study the strong and weak convergence of the Ishikawa iterative scheme for noncyclic relatively nonexpansive mappings in uniformly convex Banach spaces. We also establish a best proximity pair theorem for noncyclic contraction type mappings in the setting of strictly convex Banach spaces.

We establish a best proximity pair theorem for noncyclic φ-condensing operators in strictly convex Banach spaces by using a measure of noncompactness. We also obtain a counterpart result for cyclic φ-condensing operators in Banach spaces to guarantee the existence of best proximity points, and so, an extension of Darbo’s fixed point theorem will be concluded. As an application of our results, we study the existence of a global optimal solution for a system of ordinary differential equations.

Abstract In this article, we consider the class of noncyclic Meir-Keeler contractions and study the existence and convergence of best proximity pairs for such mappings in the setting of complete CAT(0) spaces. We also discuss asymptotic pointwise noncyclic Meir-Keeler contractions in the framework of uniformly convex Banach spaces and generalize a main result of Chen [Chen C. M., A note on asymptotic pointwise weaker Meir-Keeler type contractions, Appl. Math. Lett., 2012, 25, 1267-1269]. Examples are given to support our main results.

AbstractA mapping {T\colon A\cup B\to A\cup B} such that {T(A)\subseteq A} and {T(B)\subseteq B} is called a noncyclic mapping, where A and B are two nonempty subsets of a Banach space X. A best proximity pair {(p,q)\in A\times B} for such a mapping T is a point such that {p=Tp,q=Tq} and {\|p-q\|=\operatorname{dist}(A,B)}. In the current paper, we establish some existence results of best proximity pairs in strictly convex Banach spaces. The presented theorems improve and extend some recent results in the literature. We also obtain a generalized version of Markov–Kakutani’s theorem for best proximity pairs in a strictly convex Banach space setting.

In this article, we formulate a best proximity pair theorem for noncyclic relatively nonexpansive mappings in convex metrc spaces by using a geometric notion of semi-normal structure. In this way, we generalize a corresponding result in [W. Takahashi, A convexity in metric space and nonexpansive mappings, Kodai Math. Sem. Rep. 22 (1970) 142-149]. We also establish a best proximity pair theorem for pointwise noncyclic contractions in the setting of convex metric spaces. Our result generalizes a result due to Sankara Raju Kosuru and Veeramani [G. Sankara Raju Kosuru and P. Veeramani, A note on existence and convergence of best proximity points for pointwise cyclic contractions, Numer. Funct. Anal. Optim., 82 (2011) 821-830].
