Youth policy challenges

Policy issues arising from digitalisation in neo-liberal economies are outlined in this final section and are directed at youth policy challenges, based on the findings of the preceding chapters. The themes of inequality, identity, the digital economy, lockdown and the pandemic are centrally addressed, together with such key topics as the future of vocational education and training in the digital society, job creation, family and community life and universal connectivity. The evidence makes the point that government should be under an obligation to ensure that every young person has access to the material, social, technical and educational resources needed to shape match their goals and to acquire the capability to participate fully in the digital society. Young people’s prospects must be promoted by policy innovations that address structural disadvantages and defeat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Encoding kirigami bi-materials to morph on target in response to temperature

Shape morphing in response to an environmental stimulus, such as temperature, light, and chemical cues, is currently pursued in synthetic analogs for manifold applications in engineering, architecture, and beyond. Existing strategies mostly resort to active, namely smart or field responsive, materials, which undergo a change of their physical properties when subjected to an external stimulus. Their ability for shape morphing is intrinsic to the atomic/molecular structure as well as the mechanochemical interactions of their constituents. Programming shape changes with active materials require manipulation of their composition through chemical synthesis. Here, we demonstrate that a pair of off-the-shelf passive solids, such as wood and silicone rubber, can be topologically arranged in a kirigami bi-material to shape-morph on target in response to a temperature stimulus. A coherent framework is introduced to enable the optimal orchestration of bi-material units that can engage temperature to collectively deploy into a geometrically rich set of periodic and aperiodic shapes that can shape-match a predefined target. The results highlight reversible morphing by mechanics and geometry, thus contributing to relax the dependence of current strategies on material chemistry and fabrication.

Estudio preliminar sobre patrones fonológicos según la fonología no lineal de niños chilenos de entre 3.0 y 3.11 años con Desarrollo Fonológico Prolongado (DFP)

El Desarrollo Fonológico Prolongado (DFP) presenta patrones de simplificación que persisten más allá de la edad esperada, disminuyendo la inteligibilidad en los niños (Dubasik & Ingram, 2013). En el presente trabajo se describen los patrones fonológicos, según la Fonología No Lineal, en niños chilenos de entre 3.0 y 3.11 años con DFP. Este objetivo surgió de la necesidad de conocer los patrones suprasegmentales y segmentales de niños chilenos con DFP, puesto que no se ha realizado un estudio basado en la Teoría No Lineal en la población chilena. La muestra estuvo conformada por cinco niños pertenecientes a jardines infantiles de la Región de Valparaíso, Chile. A estos niños se les aplicó la Lista de Palabras del Español, obteniendo un corpus de 500 palabras. Este fue analizado a través de las medidas suprasegmentales Whole Word Match (WWM) o coincidencia de la palabra completa, Word Shape Match (WSM) o coincidencia de la estructura de la palabra, patrones acentuales; y medidas segmentales, en Porcentaje de Consonantes Correctas (PCC). Como resultado se obtuvo que los niños con DFP presentan puntajes altos en patrones acentuales (99.2%), pero muestran una alteración en las medidas de WWM, con un 52.2% de aciertos; WSM, con un 73.4%, y PCC, con un 89.2%. En consecuencia, se evidenció alteración suprasegmental y segmental en niños con DFP, pues los valores obtenidos no coinciden con el Desarrollo Típico (DT) observados en otras investigaciones.

Modeling-Based Assessment of 3D Printing-Enabled Meniscus Transplantation

3D printing technology is able to produce personalized artificial substitutes for patients with damaged menisci. However, there is a lack of thorough understanding of 3D printing-enabled (3DP-enabled) meniscus transplantation and its long-term advantages over traditional transplantation. To help health care stakeholders and patients assess the value of 3DP-enabled meniscus transplantation, this study compares the long-term cost and risk of this new paradigm with traditional transplantation by simulation. Pathway models are developed to simulate patients’ treatment process during a 20-year period, and a Markov process is used to model the state transitions of patients after transplantation. A sensitivity analysis is also conducted to show the effect of quality of 3D-printed meniscus on model outputs. The simulation results suggest that the performance of 3DP-enabled meniscus transplantation depends on quality of 3D-printed meniscus. The conclusion of this study is that 3DP-enabled meniscus transplantation has many advantages over traditional meniscus transplantation, including a minimal waiting time, perfect size and shape match, and potentially lower cost and risk in the long term.

Binary and ternary cocrystals of sulfa drug acetazolamide with pyridine carboxamides and cyclic amides

A novel design strategy for cocrystals of a sulfonamide drug with pyridine carboxamides and cyclic amides is developed based on synthon identification as well as size and shape match of coformers. Binary adducts of acetazolamide (ACZ) with lactams (valerolactam and caprolactam, VLM, CPR), cyclic amides (2-pyridone, labeled as 2HP and its derivatives MeHP, OMeHP) and pyridine amides (nicotinamide and picolinamide, NAM, PAM) were obtained by manual grinding, and their single crystals by solution crystallization. The heterosynthons in the binary cocrystals of ACZ with these coformers suggested a ternary combination for ACZ with pyridone and nicotinamide. Novel supramolecular synthons of ACZ with lactams and pyridine carboxamides are reported together with binary and ternary cocrystals for a sulfonamide drug. This crystal engineering study resulted in the first ternary cocrystal of acetazolamide with amide coformers, ACZ–NAM–2HP (1:1:1).

Image Measurement of Traffic Flow Parameters and its Traffic Congestion Evaluation

Current evaluation methods on urban traffic congestion are mostly based on traffic flow information. However, the measurement of traffic flow remains to be controversial and difficult for the community. This paper points out an algorithm to acquire traffic parameters and studies the evaluation methods based on it. By extracting multi-color-feature information from image and vehicle shape match algorithm based on fuzzy rules, this method can efficiently distinguish vehicles from each other thus to calculate the traffic state parameters according to the results of this method. Then it can build congestion evaluation model with vehicle delay rate as the critical parameter. The experiment indicates that this method can acquire the accurate real-time road parameters and also proves it is valid to apply this method in urban traffic congestion evaluation in different situations.
