A Hierarchy-Based System for Recognizing Customer Activity in Retail Environments

Customer activity (CA) in retail environments, which ranges over various shopper situations in store spaces, provides valuable information for store management and marketing planning. Several systems have been proposed for customer activity recognition (CAR) from in-store camera videos, and most of them use machine learning based end-to-end (E2E) CAR models, due to their remarkable performance. Usually, such E2E models are trained for target conditions (i.e., particular CA types in specific store spaces). Accordingly, the existing systems are not malleable to fit the changes in target conditions because they require entire retraining of their specialized E2E models and concurrent use of additional E2E models for new target conditions. This paper proposes a novel CAR system based on a hierarchy that organizes CA types into different levels of abstraction from lowest to highest. The proposed system consists of multiple CAR models, each of which performs CAR tasks that belong to a certain level of the hierarchy on the lower level’s output, and thus conducts CAR for videos through the models level by level. Since these models are separated, this system can deal efficiently with the changes in target conditions by modifying some models individually. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed system in adapting to different target conditions.

The Spontaneous Pricing Order in the Noncooperative Game of Monopolistic Manufacturer and Many Retailers

We consider the collective pricing orders in a minimum supply chain that is composed of a monopolistic manufacturer and many retailers that belong to the same chain store firm. The retailers have the freedom to raise or lower the local price. The chain store firm sets up the commercial rules for local retail stores to maximize its total payoff. The monopolistic manufacturer firm controls the total quantity supplied for the market to achieve maximum benefits. We applied the two dimensional Ising model in statistical physics to map the collective distribution of microscopic strategy of local retailers into the macroscopic total payoff of the chain store firm. The local stores choose to raise the price or lower the price based their own mind when the supply in market surpasses the demand. When the supply in market is far less than the demand, the stores synchronously raise prices, even though a local store only have the incomplete information of their nearest neighboring supermarket. We find the critical equation for the balance point between the action of supplier and the action of chain store management based on game theory and statistical physics. The critical equation can identify the Nash equilibrium point of the non-cooperative game between the manufacturer and the chain-store seller, and reveal different levels of collective operations. This statistical physics method also holds for more complicate supply chains and economic systems.

Penerapan Data Mining untuk Klasifikasi Produk Merk Bata Menggunakan Algoritma K-Means

Tanjungbalai Bata Store is a store that is engaged in the business of selling products and every day processes purchase data, sales data and transaction data. Transaction data is the result of sales that can be obtained so that store management knows the strategies that will be carried out to increase sales results. As for consumers who make transactions at stores for a separate reason, especially because of the completeness and many models that can be obtained from the Tanjungbalai brick shop, another reason is that the Tanjungbalai Brick Shop can provide a sense of comfort and peace in addition and the cleanliness seen from the store . There are many types of products sold at the Tanjungbalai Brick Shop. However, Tanjungbalai Brick Shop cannot classify products that are selling well and those that are not selling well. So that the difficulties experienced are the frequent shortage of stock of products that sell well because sales are high and the accumulation of products that are not selling well in the warehouse because the sellers are low. Based on the problems above, data mining is needed to classify which products are in demand and which are not. Abstrak:Toko Bata Tanjungbalai adalah toko yang bergerak di bidang bisnis penjulalan produk dan setiap harinya melalukan proses data pembelian, data penjualan maupun data transaksi. Data transaksi merupakan hasil penjualan yang di dapat agar manajemen toko mengetahui strategi yang akan di lakukan untuk meningkatkan hasil penjualan. Adapun konsumen yang melakukan transaksi di toko memiliki alas an tersendiri ataupun di karenakan kelengkapan dan banyak model yang bisa di dapatkan dari toko bata tanjungbalai, alasan yang lain adalah Toko Bata Tanjungbalai dapat memberikan rasa nyamandan tentram di tambah lagi keramahan dan kebersihan yang di lihat dari toko tersebut. Ada banyak jenis produk yang terjual di Toko Bata Tanjungbalai, namun toko bata Tanjungbalai tidaklah mampu dalam membagikan kelompok produk tersebut masuk kategori laris dan tidak laris. Sehingga kesulitan yang dialami yaitu seringnya kekurangan stok produk yang laku karena penjualannya tinggi dan menumpuknya produk yang tidak laris di gudang karena penjualnnya rendah. Berdasarkan permasalahan di atas maka dibutuhkan data mining untuk mengelompokkan produk mana saja yang laris dan tidak. Data mining dan metode k-meansdapat membantu dalam penelitian ini dipadukan dengan pemrograman PHP dan MySQL. Kata Kunci :Data Mining; Klasifikasi Produk; Algoritma K-Means.

Diving physiology of marine mammals and birds: the development of biologging techniques

In the 1940s, Scholander and Irving revealed fundamental physiological responses to forced diving of marine mammals and birds, setting the stage for the study of diving physiology. Since then, diving physiology research has moved from the laboratory to the field. Modern biologging, with the development of microprocessor technology, recorder memory capacity and battery life, has advanced and expanded investigations of the diving physiology of marine mammals and birds. This review describes a brief history of the start of field diving physiology investigations, including the invention of the time depth recorder, and then tracks the use of biologging studies in four key diving physiology topics: heart rate, blood flow, body temperature and oxygen store management. Investigations of diving heart rates in cetaceans and O 2 store management in diving emperor penguins are highlighted to emphasize the value of diving physiology biologging research. The review concludes with current challenges, remaining diving physiology questions and what technologies are needed to advance the field. Storage management and wastage of reproductive health medicines and associated challenges in west Wollega zone of Ethiopia: a mixed cross-sectional descriptive study

Background Keeping proper storage conditions at health facilities is vital to reduce pharmaceutical wastage caused by environmental factors. The expiration of medicines at the health facilities could lead to wastage of potentially life-saving drugs and unnecessary expenditure on the disposal of those expired medicines. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess pharmaceutical stores and wastage of reproductive health medicines due to expiration in the west Wollega zone of Ethiopia. Method We conducted a facility-based cross-sectional study from 15th to 31st July 2019 using quantitative and qualitative data from West Wollega Zone of Ethiopia. Results Among 23 health facilities assessed, 17 (73.91%) (4(100%) hospitals and 13(68.42%) health centers) fulfilled desirable storage conditions. Hospitals’ stores had equipment and furniture, fulfilled desirable storage conditions, whereas, a significant number of the health centers’ stores did not comply with desirable storage conditions. Challenges of store management identified were poor store infrastructure and shortage of manpower. The total value of reproductive health medicines wasted due to expire in surveyed facilities was 357,920.52 ETB (12,323.81 US dollars) and the Percentage of Stock Wasted due to Expiration was 8.04%. Levonorgestrel 0.75 mg tablet is the highest in the percentage of stock wasted due to expiry. Factors contributing to wastage due to expiration were supply and demand imbalance. Conclusion Reproductive health medicines wasted due to expiration is high compared to the government of Ethiopia’s plan for the year 2018/19. This might imply that the monitoring of this plan is poor. Even though hospitals store management is good, there is a weakness in store management in health centers. This could be due to poor attention given to health centers. Therefore, west Wollega zonal health department should appropriately monitor the wastage of Reproductive health medicines and enforce health centers to follow appropriate storage guidelines. Hospitals and health centers should not accept medicines beyond their need to reduce expiry.
