Auditor-client relationship and related party transactions disclosure: the role of family controlling shareholders from a network perspective

Purpose This study aims to examine the effect of the auditor-client relationship (ACR) on related party transaction (RPT) types of disclosure, either RPT-efficient or RPT-conflict. This study also examines whether family controlling shareholders (FCS) negatively affect the ACR in RPT types of disclosure. Design/methodology/approach This study uses multivariate regression on 2,203 year-observations of companies listed in Malaysia during the period 2014–2017. Findings This study finds weak evidence that auditors can mitigate companies’ RPT type (RPT-efficient and RPT-conflict) disclosure while maintaining a close ACR. However, an interaction between FCS and ACR reduces the RPT-conflict disclosure. Additionally, the Big 4 auditors slightly increase the RPT-conflict disclosure, however, the relationships are inversed if the close ACR involves the FCS. The Big 4 auditors also increase RPT-efficient disclosure although in a close ACR with FCS. Meanwhile, an interaction between non-Big 4 auditors and FCS in close ACR reduces both types of RPT disclosures. Research limitations/implications The findings suggest that a close relationship between auditors and clients in firms with significant family control could compromise auditor’s skepticism. The FCS can easily influence the auditors to agree with the ways they treat the RPT disclosure. Therefore, policymakers may have to revisit auditors’ rotation policies in Malaysia, especially those involving FCS. Originality/value Trust, familiarity and future fee dependency are significant threats to auditor independence in a close ACR. This study contributes to the literature by examining the effect of a close ACR on RPT types of disclosure from a network theory perspective.

This artcle aims to determine the effectiveness of policies or tax laws that exist in preventing and combating the transfer pricing practices of multinational companies on a case by Armada Yamaha Pagora Jaya and tax privileges granted to importers to increase acceptance of import value-added tax (VAT) taxable goods. In conducting this study, the authors use the method of normative juridical approach. Toyota suspected of ‹playing› with a related party transaction prices and adds to costs through royalty payments are not fair. Thousands of car production Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia exported overseas with reasonable prices. This mode is thought to be the transfer pricing strategy. Therefore diadakanlah Advance Pricing Agreement (APA), which is useful for reducing the practice of transfer pricing by multinational companies. Facilities that are likely to be enjoyed by employers taxable imports taxable goods is the tax payable is free and exempt from valueadded tax (VAT).

Relationship of Related Party Transactions and Earnings Management

<em>This study aimed to examine the relationship between related party transactions and earnings management. The sample of this study was companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the 2017 and 2018 period. The result shows that related party transaction (sales and expense) has a negative effect on accrual earnings management. It indicates that firms use related party transactions (sales and expense) as substitutes for earnings management especially accrual earnings management.</em>

The Influence of Related Party Transaction, Profitability, Leverage and Company Size on Firm Value with Tax Avoidance as an Intervening Variable in Telecommunications and Media Companies Listed on Bursa Malaysia and IDX 2010-2018

The purpose of this research is to examine and analyze the impact of related party transaction, profitability, Leverage and size of a company on firm value with tax avoidance as an intervening variable. The telecommunication and media sector in Bursa Efek Indonesia and Bursa Malaysia is chosen as the research object. The population is all the telecommunication and media companies listed in Indonesia stock exchange (IDX) and Bursa Malaysia within 2010-2018. It consists of 6 Telecommunication Company and 19 Media Company on IDX within 2010-2018. There exist a total of 33 companies in both the telecommunication and media sector in Bursa Malaysia. The sample's determination in this study is based on the nonprobability sampling method with the purposive sampling technique, in which the sample is selected with certain considerations or specific criteria. So that the sample of Malaysia is 248 and Indonesia is 139 data. Malaysia's telecommunications sector has 18 companies, and Indonesia has five companies. Meanwhile on media sector Indonesia consist of 15 company and Malaysia 12 company. This research adopts secondary data and multiple regression analysis for the regression to substructure I and II. The hypothesis mediation analysis is used to prove the mediation influence. Malaysia and Indonesia's results on Firm value: (1) Related party transaction has a positive but not significant impact. In contrast, Indonesia has a significant positive impact (2) Profitability has a significant negative impact both in Indonesia and Malaysia (3) Leverage has positive. However, not significant impact in Malaysia and Indonesia (4) Size of the company has a negative and significant impact for both country (5) Tax Avoidance has a negative but not significant impact. In contrast, Indonesia has a positive and significant impact on firm value. Related to the impact of variable independent toward tax avoidance, based on Malaysia's result, just the size of a company has the impact but negative and significant. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, Related party transaction and Leverage were known to have a negative and significant impact, and the size of the company has positive and significant toward tax avoidance. Based on Malaysia's result, tax avoidance does not impact all the independent variables on firm value. Based on Indonesia's result, the impact of company size on firm value is mediated by tax avoidance (Z). Based on the independent t-test, the variables that have different mean values are related to party transactions and company size. Does Corporate Governance Increase Related Party Transaction Disclosure In Indonesia?

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of corporate governance (audit committee, institutional ownership, managerial ownership, and independent commissioners) on Related Party Transaction Disclosure. The data employed in this study is secondary data, financial statements from manufacturing sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2016 up to 2019. Based on the purposive sampling conducted, companies that meet the criteria in this study are 40 companies, so that the total sample is 160 observations. This study uses panel data regression analysis. This study finds that the independent commissioner has a positive effect on Related Party Transaction Disclosure. Meanwhile, the audit committee, managerial ownership, and institutional ownership do not affect Related Party Transaction Disclosure. This research indicates that the Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) should supervise and tighten the rules for Indonesia listed companies, especially regarding the audit committee's or independent commissioner's requirements in listed companies.

Transaksi Pihak Terkait atas Biaya Audit: Peran Efektivitas Komite Audit

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of related party transaction and the effectiveness of audit committee on audit fee. This research uses samples a manufacturing company in Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in 2014-2018. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. The total number of companies used as research samples is 118 companies. Using tools SPSS 20 and testing hypothesis using linear regression. The F test indicates a stable and significant model. R square is 58,7 percent. The results show that related party transactions have a significant positive effect and the effectiveness of the audit committee has a significant negative effect on audit fees. Related Party Transaction Memperkuat Pengaruh Political Connection Terhadap Audit Delay ?

Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh koneksi politis (political connection) terhadap audit delay dan dampak penggunaan transaksi pihak berelasi (related party transaction) dalam memoderasi pengaruh koneksi politis (political connection) terhadap audit delay. Dalam melakukan pengujian terhadap tujuan penelitian tersebut, peneliti menggunakan analisis regresi berganda dengan menggunakan sampel penelitian 59 perusahaan manufaktur atau 295 pengamatan untuk rentang pengamatan tahun 2013 – 2017. Dari hasil pengujian yang dilakukan, hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa koneksi politis (political connection) berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan audit delay. Penelitian ini juga memberikan hasil bahwa transaksi pihak berelasi (related party transaction) semakin meningkatkan pengaruh (political connection) terhadap audit delay. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan implikasi bahwa auditor harus lebih seksama dalam melakukan proses audit pada perusahaan yang terkoneksi secara politis dan yang melakukan transaksi pihak berelasi. Tingginya tingkat risiko bisnis yang cenderung terjadi pada perusahaan yang terkoneksi secara politis dan melakukan transaksi pihak berelasi memberikan sinyal negatif. Oleh sebab itu, kantor akuntan hendaknya memberikan penugasan kepada auditor yang lebih berpengalaman dan auditor yang mempunyai spesialis di bidang tertentu. Bagi penelitian selanjutnya, disarankan untuk menggunakan indikator lain dalam mengukur transaksi pihak berelasi (related party transaction), seperti transaksi pembelian yang berelasi dan jaminan berelasi.Kata Kunci : Audit Delay, Political Connection, Related Party Transaction
