A Compact Widely Tunable Bandpass Filter Dedicated to Preselectors

This article presents a novel compact widely tunable bandpass filter. The filter consists of two resonators that are double-coupled, inductively, where the coupling inductances are elements of the input and output networks. The application of double-coupling enabled the transmission zero next to the upper cutoff frequency. This makes the filter useful for applications in preselector networks used in receiving systems with a low to intermediate frequency with the desired channel frequency lower than the image channel frequency. The article shows the practical realisation of the varactor-tuned example filter fabricated as a microstrip planar network of an overall size of 0.03λg × 0.045λg. The tuning range of the proposed filter is from 410 MHz to 880 MHz with the fractional bandwidth equal to 7.5–8.1% and an in-band insertion loss better than −3.4 dB. The achieved IP3 value exceeds 17.5 dBm.

Seismic Performance of LRS-FRP–Concrete–Steel Tubular Double Coupling Beam

To improve the ductility and seismic performance of a double coupling beam, the authors applied a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) sheet and steel tube to form fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP)–concrete–steel double-skin tubular (DST) composite coupling beams. A low-cyclic reversed experimental program was carried out which factored in the member form, steel tube diameter, and construction methods. The results indicate that the ductility and energy dissipation performance of double coupling beams—whether wrapped with a PET-FRP sheet or surrounded by an FRP–concrete–steel DST composite system—is a substantial improvement over the traditional reinforced-concrete double coupling beam (RC-DCB). The ductility coefficient and accumulated energy dissipation of the DST-DCB members improved above 170% and 2300%, respectively. These percentages compare to the RC-DCB and are based on the rupture of a PET-FRP sheet. The results are similar to those of the large rupture strain double coupling beam (LRS-DCB). Meanwhile, the external wrapped PET-FRP sheet does not affect the initial stiffness and peak strength of the RC-DCB. Relatively, the inner steel tube will improve the initial stiffness, yielding strength, and peak strength. DST-DCB members still have considerable deformability after 85% of peak strength since the external PET-FRP sheet provided an effective constraint effect on the core concrete and the inner steel tube could bear excellent shear deformation.

An Approach to Nonsymmetric Bis(tertiary phosphine oxides) Comprising Heterocyclic Fragments via the Pd-Catalyzed Phosphorylation

Nonsymmetric tertiary phosphine oxides with different five- and six-membered heterocyclic fragments such as pyridine, 2,2′-bipyridine, 1,10-phenantroline, quinoline, imidazole, and thiazole were synthesized in good yields via the successive introduction of phosphine oxide groups into the initial dihalogenated heterocycles by means of Pd-catalyzed phosphorylation reaction. The synthesis of pyridine-type compounds is hindered by competing double coupling, while for five-membered heterocycles the principal difficulty is the dehalogenation. Both side processes were successfully suppressed by the use of an excess of a dihalide (which can be easily recovered during the product purification step), proper phosphine ligand for palladium, and nonpolar solvent such as toluene.

Palladium-catalyzed double coupling reaction of terminal alkynes with isocyanides: a direct approach to symmetrical N-aryl dialkynylimines

We have synthesized symmetrical N-aryl dialkynylimines via the palladium-catalyzed double coupling reaction of terminal alkynes with isonitriles, and the obtained dialkynylimines could be readily converted into 2-iodobenzo[f]quinoline derivatives.

In this work we investigate unsteady regime of generation of squeezed light in a single-atom laser. Dependences of the parameter of quantum squeezing and light intensity on modulation frequency of the coupling constant between an atom and field were calculated numerically for this. We showed that at the modulation frequency equal to double coupling constant parametric resonance occurs. This regime leads to more effective quantum squeezing than regime under steady generation with the same parameters of the pumping and the relaxation.

An Open-Source Automated Peptide Synthesizer Based on Arduino and Python

The development of the first open-source automated peptide synthesizer, PepSy, using Arduino UNO and readily available components is reported. PepSy was primarily designed to synthesize small peptides in a relatively small scale (<100 µmol). Scripts to operate PepSy in a fully automatic or manual mode were written in Python. Fully automatic script includes functions to carry out resin swelling, resin washing, single coupling, double coupling, Fmoc deprotection, ivDde deprotection, on-resin oxidation, end capping, and amino acid/reagent line cleaning. Several small peptides and peptide conjugates were successfully synthesized on PepSy with reasonably good yields and purity depending on the complexity of the peptide.
