In retail space, wayfinding difficulties can cause problems, such as loss of time, stress, or discomfort, negatively affecting the shopping experience of consumers and even their patronage intentions. Although studies have reported that space configuration may facilitate navigation, there has been a lack of detailed discussion, particularly in underground malls, where people often encounter wayfinding issues. In this study, a series of exit-finding tasks in virtual malls were simulated to determine if it was practical to encourage turn taking by changing the corridor width, length, height, or angle. The results showed that people have a right-turn preference during exit finding. Moreover, exit-finders mostly prefer taking the upward pathway via stairs followed by corridors with broader widths or curved corners, exhibiting visible and similar navigation effects. Shorter corridors have a visible but relatively small affinity. This study provides some empirical evidence of how the corridor configuration influences the turn taking of people and provides a theoretical reference for adding a guiding function to the spatial arrangement in underground malls.

AbstractIn the framework of the Einstein–Dirac-axion-aether theory we consider the quartet of self-interacting cosmic fields, which includes the dynamic aether, presented by the unit timelike vector field, the axionic dark mater, described by the pseudoscalar field, the spinor field associated with fermion particles, and the gravity field. The key, associated with the mechanism of self-interaction, is installed into the modified periodic potential of the pseudoscalar (axion) field constructed on the base of a guiding function, which depends on one invariant, one pseudo-invariant and two cross-invariants containing the spinor and vector fields. The total system of the field equations related to the isotropic homogeneous cosmological model is solved; we have found the exact solutions for the guiding function for three cases: nonzero, vanishing and critical values of the cosmological constant. Based on these solutions, we obtained the expressions for the effective mass of spinor particles, interacting with the axionic dark matter and dynamic aether. This effective mass is shown to bear imprints of the cosmological epoch and of the state of the cosmic dark fluid in that epoch.

The paper considers one of the most important problems of modern medicine: corrective and guiding function of cardiovascular system in all manifestations of vital activity of an organism at the supramolecular level. A "thought" and its implementation "program" simultaneously appear in the left ventricle of the heart. In author's opinion, when a child is born, a place in the information bank of the biosphere is allocated for the constant receipt and storage of data on his or her vital activities, until the death. The author managed to discover a mechanism of information feed forward and feedback between an organism and the biosphere.

This study proposes a hybrid optimization method which can help users to find optimal cutting parameters which will provide better efficiency and lower power consumption for a milling process. Empirical models including performance-power consumption characteristic curves of servo motors were built, and an optimization algorithm adopting the empirical models with procedure guiding function was developed. The empirical models were built based on the measurements from planned machining experiments with different combination of machining parameters including spindle speed, feedrate, and chip load, etc. After integrating the models and algorithm, an optimization system with human machine interface, which has procedure guiding function, was developed. The system can recommend optimal machining parameters for a milling process for shorter machining time and lower electricity costs based on the original machining parameters. Finally, cutting experiments were conducted to verify the proposed system, and the results showed that the proposed method can effectively enhance efficiency by 42.06% and save 34.74% in machining costs through reducing machining time and electrical power consumption.

This chapter discusses law’s capacity to fulfil its conduct-guiding function within different frameworks of practical reasoning. A functional argument of Raz is initially presented: according to this argument, authorities—including legal authorities—would not be able to fulfil their intended function if their directives operated as reasons for action that compete with opposing reasons in terms of their weight, rather than as pre-emptive reasons (Section 6.1). Several grounds for this argument are considered and found to be inadequate (Section 6.2). The spotlight is then directed onto another relevant consideration: law’s structural suitability to counteract several situational biases operative in contexts of individual and collective action (Sections 6.3.1–6.3.5). It is argued that law’s pivotal role in addressing practical problems linked with those biases strongly militate against the weighing model (Sections 6.3.6). Finally, the implications of those biases for the pre-emption thesis are discussed (Sections 6.3.7).

Pictures are principally descriptive. Advertising images highlight features of potential purchases; cartoons open portals to scenes in fictional worlds; snapshots in the family photo album remind us of our past selves and landmark events in our personal histories; works of pictorial art express thoughts or feelings about depicted scenes. In addition, pictures serve a directive or action-guiding function that, though not taken into account by theorists, deserves no less attention than their descriptive one. Theories of depiction and the appreciation of pictures stand to benefit by taking ‘directive pictures’ into account, as do theories of representation in general and mental representation in particular.
