An efficient synthesis of 1-arylisochromeno[3,4-d][1,2,3]triazol-5(1H)-ones, involving the diazotization of 3-amino-4-arylamino-1H-isochromen-1-ones in weakly acidic solution, has been developed and the spectroscopic characterization and crystal structures of four examples are reported. The molecules of 1-phenylisochromeno[3,4-d][1,2,3]triazol-5(1H)-one, C15H9N3O2, (I), are linked into sheets by a combination of C—H...N and C—H...O hydrogen bonds, while the structures of 1-(2-methylphenyl)isochromeno[3,4-d][1,2,3]triazol-5(1H)-one, C16H11N3O2, (II), and 1-(3-chlorophenyl)isochromeno[3,4-d][1,2,3]triazol-5(1H)-one, C15H8ClN3O2, (III), each contain just one hydrogen bond which links the molecules into simple chains, which are further linked into sheets by π-stacking interactions in (II) but not in (III). In the structure of 1-(4-chlorophenyl)isochromeno[3,4-d][1,2,3]triazol-5(1H)-one, (IV), isomeric with (III), a combination of C—H...O and C—H...π(arene) hydrogen bonds links the molecules into sheets. When compound (II) was exposed to a strong acid in methanol, quantitative conversion occurred to give the ring-opened transesterification product methyl 2-[4-hydroxy-1-(2-methylphenyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazol-5-yl]benzoate, C17H15N3O3, (V), where the molecules are linked by paired O—H...O hydrogen bonds to form centrosymmetric dimers.

Polyaniline (PANI), a typical conducting polymer, has attracted great interest as an electrode material. A series of PANIs were prepared through fast microwave-assisted chemical oxidative polymerization with varying HCl and APS concentrations here. It was found that the microwave synthesized PANIs had ~4 times higher for the yields and 7~10 times higher for the electrical conductivity in comparison to PANI samples prepared using conventional method. PANI nanosheets could easily be fabricated in weakly acidic solution due to their oligomeric structure, which contained flat phenazine rings. By contrast, linear PANI chains produced in highly acidic solutions formed nanofibers. The APS concentration did not significantly affect the molecular structures of PANIs under the conditions here. However, increasing the concentration of APS produced nanofibers with shorter branches, which may be due to secondary nucleation during chain growth resulting from increases in active initiation centers. The electrical conductivity and electrochemical performance of PANIs were both improved with increasing HCl and APS concentrations. Improvements due to increases in HCl concentration may be attributed to additions in conjugation length and enrichment of doping levels, while improvements due to increases in APS concentration could be attributed to the increased crystallinity of PANI, which facilitates ion transport.

The technological (deposition rate, coating composition) and functional (surface roughness, microhardness) characteristics of chemical composite coatings Ni—Cu—P—Cr2O3 obtained from weakly acidic and slightly alkaline solutions are compared. It is shown that coatings deposited from slightly alkaline solution contain slightly less phosphorus and chromium oxide than coatings deposited from weakly acid solution (2...3 % wt. phosphorus and up to 3.4 % wt. chromium oxide), formed at higher rate (24...25 microns per 1 hour of deposition at temperature of 80 °C), are characte rized by lower roughness and increased microhardness. The Vickers microhardness at 0.05 N load of composite coatings obtained from slightly alkaline solution and heat-treated at 400 °C for 1 hour is 13.5...15.2 GPa, which is higher than values for coatings deposited made of weakly acidic solution. The maximum microhardness of coatings is achieved at concentration 20 g/l of Cr2O3 particles. The technology of chemical deposition of Ni—Cu—P—Cr2O3 coatings formed in slightly alkaline solution is promising for obtaining of materials with increased hardness and wear resistance.

Impaired esophageal mucosal integrity may be an important contributor in the pathophysiology of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Nevertheless, the effect of potentially harmful agents on epithelial integrity is mainly evaluated in vitro for a short period of time and the possible induction of epithelial apoptosis has been neglected. Our objective was to assess the effect of an acidic and weakly acidic solution containing deoxycholic acid (DCA) on the esophageal epithelium in an in vivo rabbit model of esophageal perfusion and to evaluate the role of the epithelial apoptosis. The esophagus of 55 anesthetized rabbits was perfused for 30 min with different solutions at pH 7.2, pH 5.0, pH 1.0, and pH 5.0 containing 200 and 500 μM DCA. Thereafter, animals were euthanized immediately or at 24 or 48 h after the perfusion. Transepithelial electrical resistance, epithelial dilated intercellular spaces, and apoptosis were assessed in Ussing chambers, by transmission electron microscopy, and by TUNEL staining, respectively. No macroscopic or major microscopic alterations were observed after the esophageal perfusions. The acidic and weakly acidic solution containing DCA induced similar long-lasting functional impairment of the epithelial integrity but different ultrastructural morphological changes. Only the solution containing DCA induced epithelial apoptosis in vivo and in vitro in rabbit and human tissue. In contrast to acid, a weakly acidic solution containing DCA induces epithelial apoptosis and a long-lasting impaired mucosal integrity. The presence of apoptotic cells in the esophageal epithelium may be used as a marker of impaired integrity and/or bile reflux exposure.
