Coordinate rings and birational charts

Let G G be a semisimple simply connected complex algebraic group. Let U U be the unipotent radical of a Borel subgroup in G G . We describe the coordinate rings of U U (resp., G / U G/U , G G ) in terms of two (resp., four, eight) birational charts introduced by Lusztig [Total positivity in reductive groups, Birkhäuser Boston, Boston, MA, 1994; Bull. Inst. Math. Sin. (N.S.) 14 (2019), pp. 403–459] in connection with the study of total positivity.

Algebraic Properties of the Coordinate Ring of a Convex Polyomino

We classify all convex polyominoes whose coordinate rings are Gorenstein. We also give an upper bound for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of the coordinate ring of any convex polyomino in terms of the smallest interval which contains its vertices. We give a recursive formula for computing the multiplicity of a stack polyomino.

Maps from Feigin and Odesskii's elliptic algebras to twisted homogeneous coordinate rings

The elliptic algebras in the title are connected graded $\mathbb {C}$ -algebras, denoted $Q_{n,k}(E,\tau )$ , depending on a pair of relatively prime integers $n>k\ge 1$ , an elliptic curve E and a point $\tau \in E$ . This paper examines a canonical homomorphism from $Q_{n,k}(E,\tau )$ to the twisted homogeneous coordinate ring $B(X_{n/k},\sigma ',\mathcal {L}^{\prime }_{n/k})$ on the characteristic variety $X_{n/k}$ for $Q_{n,k}(E,\tau )$ . When $X_{n/k}$ is isomorphic to $E^g$ or the symmetric power $S^gE$ , we show that the homomorphism $Q_{n,k}(E,\tau ) \to B(X_{n/k},\sigma ',\mathcal {L}^{\prime }_{n/k})$ is surjective, the relations for $B(X_{n/k},\sigma ',\mathcal {L}^{\prime }_{n/k})$ are generated in degrees $\le 3$ and the noncommutative scheme $\mathrm {Proj}_{nc}(Q_{n,k}(E,\tau ))$ has a closed subvariety that is isomorphic to $E^g$ or $S^gE$ , respectively. When $X_{n/k}=E^g$ and $\tau =0$ , the results about $B(X_{n/k},\sigma ',\mathcal {L}^{\prime }_{n/k})$ show that the morphism $\Phi _{|\mathcal {L}_{n/k}|}:E^g \to \mathbb {P}^{n-1}$ embeds $E^g$ as a projectively normal subvariety that is a scheme-theoretic intersection of quadric and cubic hypersurfaces.

Cluster Structures on Double Bott–Samelson Cells

Let $\mathsf {C}$ be a symmetrisable generalised Cartan matrix. We introduce four different versions of double Bott–Samelson cells for every pair of positive braids in the generalised braid group associated to $\mathsf {C}$ . We prove that the decorated double Bott–Samelson cells are smooth affine varieties, whose coordinate rings are naturally isomorphic to upper cluster algebras. We explicitly describe the Donaldson–Thomas transformations on double Bott–Samelson cells and prove that they are cluster transformations. As an application, we complete the proof of the Fock–Goncharov duality conjecture in these cases. We discover a periodicity phenomenon of the Donaldson–Thomas transformations on a family of double Bott–Samelson cells. We give a (rather simple) geometric proof of Zamolodchikov’s periodicity conjecture in the cases of $\Delta \square \mathrm {A}_r$ . When $\mathsf {C}$ is of type $\mathrm {A}$ , the double Bott–Samelson cells are isomorphic to Shende–Treumann–Zaslow’s moduli spaces of microlocal rank-1 constructible sheaves associated to Legendrian links. By counting their $\mathbb {F}_q$ -points we obtain rational functions that are Legendrian link invariants.

The Computational Complexity of Plethysm Coefficients

In two papers, Bürgisser and Ikenmeyer (STOC 2011, STOC 2013) used an adaption of the geometric complexity theory (GCT) approach by Mulmuley and Sohoni (Siam J Comput 2001, 2008) to prove lower bounds on the border rank of the matrix multiplication tensor. A key ingredient was information about certain Kronecker coefficients. While tensors are an interesting test bed for GCT ideas, the far-away goal is the separation of algebraic complexity classes. The role of the Kronecker coefficients in that setting is taken by the so-called plethysm coefficients: These are the multiplicities in the coordinate rings of spaces of polynomials. Even though several hardness results for Kronecker coefficients are known, there are almost no results about the complexity of computing the plethysm coefficients or even deciding their positivity.In this paper, we show that deciding positivity of plethysm coefficients is -hard and that computing plethysm coefficients is #-hard. In fact, both problems remain hard even if the inner parameter of the plethysm coefficient is fixed. In this way, we obtain an inner versus outer contrast: If the outer parameter of the plethysm coefficient is fixed, then the plethysm coefficient can be computed in polynomial time. Moreover, we derive new lower and upper bounds and in special cases even combinatorial descriptions for plethysm coefficients, which we consider to be of independent interest. Our technique uses discrete tomography in a more refined way than the recent work on Kronecker coefficients by Ikenmeyer, Mulmuley, and Walter (Comput Compl 2017). This makes our work the first to apply techniques from discrete tomography to the study of plethysm coefficients. Quite surprisingly, that interpretation also leads to new equalities between certain plethysm coefficients and Kronecker coefficients.

Order Filter Model for Minuscule Plücker Relations

International audience The Plücker relations which define the Grassmann manifolds as projective varieties are well known. Grass-mann manifolds are examples of minuscule flag manifolds. We study the generalized Plücker relations for minuscule flag manifolds independent of Lie type. To do this we combinatorially model the Plücker coordinates based on Wild-berger’s construction of minuscule Lie algebra representations; it uses the colored partially ordered sets known asminuscule posets. We obtain, uniformly across Lie type, descriptions of the Plücker relations of “extreme weight”. We show that these are “supported” by “double-tailed diamond” sublattices of minuscule lattices. From this, we obtain a complete set of Plücker relations for the exceptional minuscule flag manifolds. These Plücker relations are straightening laws for their coordinate rings.

The Minkowski Property and Reflexivity of Marked Poset Polytopes

We study the Minkowski property and reflexivity of marked poset polytopes. Both are relevant to the study of toric varieties associated to marked poset polytopes: the Minkowski property can be used to obtain generators of coordinate rings, while reflexive polytopes correspond to Gorenstein–Fano toric varieties.

The Convex Polytopes and Homogeneous Coordinate Rings of Bivariate Polynomials

Concepts from algebraic geometry such as cones and fans are related to toric varieties and can be applied to determine the convex polytopes and homogeneous coordinate rings of multivariate polynomial systems. The homogeneous coordinates of a system in its projective vector space can be associated with the entries of the resultant matrix of the system under consideration. This paper presents some conditions for the homogeneous coordinates of a certain system of bivariate polynomials through the construction and implementation of the Sylvester-Bèzout hybrid resultant matrix formulation. This basis of the implementation of the Bèzout block applies a combinatorial approach on a set of linear inequalities, named 5-rule. The inequalities involved the set of exponent vectors of the monomials of the system and the entries of the matrix are determined from the coefficients of facets variable known as brackets. The approach can determine the homogeneous coordinates of the given system and the entries of the Bèzout block. Conditions for determining the homogeneous coordinates are also given and proven.

The Gorenstein Property for Projective Coordinate Rings of the Moduli of Parabolic $\mathrm{SL}_2$-Principal Bundles on a Smooth Curve

Using combinatorial methods, we determine that a projective coordinate ring of the moduli of parabolic principal $\mathrm{SL}_2-$bundles on a marked projective curve is not Gorenstein when the genus and number of marked points are greater than $1$.
