Coordinate rings and birational charts

Let G G be a semisimple simply connected complex algebraic group. Let U U be the unipotent radical of a Borel subgroup in G G . We describe the coordinate rings of U U (resp., G / U G/U , G G ) in terms of two (resp., four, eight) birational charts introduced by Lusztig [Total positivity in reductive groups, Birkhäuser Boston, Boston, MA, 1994; Bull. Inst. Math. Sin. (N.S.) 14 (2019), pp. 403–459] in connection with the study of total positivity.

Generalized negligible morphisms and their tensor ideals

We introduce a generalization of the notion of a negligible morphism and study the associated tensor ideals and thick ideals. These ideals are defined by considering deformations of a given monoidal category $${\mathcal {C}}$$ C over a local ring R. If the maximal ideal of R is generated by a single element, we show that any thick ideal of $${\mathcal {C}}$$ C admits an explicitly given modified trace function. As examples we consider various Deligne categories and the categories of tilting modules for a quantum group at a root of unity and for a semisimple, simply connected algebraic group in prime characteristic. We prove an elementary geometric description of the thick ideals in quantum type A and propose a similar one in the modular case.

On Characterizing a Three-Dimensional Sphere

In this paper, we find a characterization of the 3-sphere using 3-dimensional compact and simply connected trans-Sasakian manifolds of type (α,β).

Normal modes of a waveguide as eigenvectors of a self-adjoint operator pencil

A waveguide with a constant, simply connected section S is considered under the condition that the substance filling the waveguide is characterized by permittivity and permeability that vary smoothly over the section S, but are constant along the waveguide axis. Ideal conductivity conditions are assumed on the walls of the waveguide. On the basis of the previously found representation of the electromagnetic field in such a waveguide using 4 scalar functions, namely, two electric and two magnetic potentials, Maxwells equations are rewritten with respect to the potentials and longitudinal components of the field. It appears possible to exclude potentials from this system and arrive at a pair of integro-differential equations for longitudinal components alone that split into two uncoupled wave equations in the optically homogeneous case. In an optically inhomogeneous case, this approach reduces the problem of finding the normal modes of a waveguide to studying the spectrum of a quadratic self-adjoint operator pencil.

Topological Properties of Braid-Paths Connected 2-Simplices in Covering Spaces under Cyclic Orientations

In general, the braid structures in a topological space can be classified into algebraic forms and geometric forms. This paper investigates the properties of a braid structure involving 2-simplices and a set of directed braid-paths in view of algebraic as well as geometric topology. The 2-simplices are of the cyclically oriented variety embedded within the disjoint topological covering subspaces where the finite braid-paths are twisted as well as directed. It is shown that the generated homotopic simplicial braids form Abelian groups and the twisted braid-paths successfully admit several varieties of twisted discrete path-homotopy equivalence classes, establishing a set of simplicial fibers. Furthermore, a set of discrete-loop fundamental groups are generated in the covering spaces where the appropriate weight assignments generate multiplicative group structures under a variety of homological formal sums. Interestingly, the resulting smallest non-trivial group is not necessarily unique. The proposed variety of homological formal sum exhibits a loop absorption property if the homotopy path-products are non-commutative. It is considered that the topological covering subspaces are simply connected under embeddings with local homeomorphism maintaining generality.

On the Topology of Warped Product Pointwise Semi-Slant Submanifolds with Positive Curvature

In this paper, we obtain some topological characterizations for the warping function of a warped product pointwise semi-slant submanifold of the form Ωn=NTl×fNϕk in a complex projective space CP2m(4). Additionally, we will find certain restrictions on the warping function f, Dirichlet energy function E(f), and first non-zero eigenvalue λ1 to prove that stable l-currents do not exist and also that the homology groups have vanished in Ωn. As an application of the non-existence of the stable currents in Ωn, we show that the fundamental group π1(Ωn) is trivial and Ωn is simply connected under the same extrinsic conditions. Further, some similar conclusions are provided for CR-warped product submanifolds.

Compressible potential flows around round bodies: Janzen–Rayleigh expansion inferences

The subsonic, compressible, potential flow around a hypersphere can be derived using the Janzen–Rayleigh expansion (JRE) of the flow potential in even powers of the incident Mach number ${\mathcal {M}}_\infty$ . JREs were carried out with terms polynomial in the inverse radius $r^{-1}$ to high orders in two dimensions, but were limited to order ${\mathcal {M}}_\infty ^{4}$ in three dimensions. We derive general JRE formulae for arbitrary order, adiabatic index and dimension. We find that powers of $\ln (r)$ can creep into the expansion, and are essential in the three-dimensional (3-D) sphere beyond order ${\mathcal {M}}_\infty ^{4}$ . Such terms are apparently absent in the 2-D disk, as we verify up to order ${\mathcal {M}}_\infty ^{100}$ , although they do appear in other dimensions (e.g. at order ${\mathcal {M}}_\infty ^{2}$ in four dimensions). An exploration of various 2-D and 3-D bodies suggests a topological connection, with logarithmic terms emerging when the flow is simply connected. Our results have additional physical implications. They are used to improve the hodograph-based approximation for the flow in front of a sphere. The symmetry-axis velocity profiles of axisymmetric flows around different prolate spheroids are approximately related to each other by a simple, Mach-independent scaling.

The Bohr phenomenon for analytic functions on shifted disks

In this paper, we investigate the Bohr phenomenon for the class of analytic functions defined on the simply connected domain \(\Omega_{\gamma}=\bigg\{z\in\mathbb{C} \colon \bigg|z+\frac{\gamma}{1-\gamma}\bigg|<\frac{1}{1-\gamma}\bigg\}\) for \(0\leq \gamma<1.\) We study improved Bohr radius, Bohr-Rogosinski radius and refined Bohr radius for the class of analytic functions defined in \(\Omega_{\gamma}\), and obtain several sharp results.

Zeros of the isomonodromic tau functions in constructive conformal mapping of polycircular arc domains: the n-vertex case

The prevertices of the conformal map between a generic, n-vertex, simply connected, polycircular arc domain and the upper half plane are determined by finding the zeros of an isomonodromic tau function. The accessory parameters of the associated Fuchsian equation are then found in terms of logarithmic derivatives of this tau function. Using these theoretical results a constructive approach to the determination of the conformal map is given and the particular case of 5 vertices is considered in detail. A computer implementation of a construction of the isomonodromic tau function described by Gavrylenko & Lisovyy [Comm. Math. Phys., 363, 2018)] is used to calculate some illustrative examples. A procedural guide to constructing the conformal map to a given polycircular arc domain using the method presented here is also set out.
