Zwischen Geist und Macht

The dissertation is dealing with four conservative bestselling authors who celebrated their first successes in the Weimar Republic, did not leave Germany after 1933 and dominated the literary field until the 1950s: Werner Bergengruen, Hans Carossa, Reinhold Schneider and Ernst Wiechert. The work does not focus on the question of the proximity or distance of these authors to the Nazi regime, but on their interpretation of the present and their self-presentation between 1930 and 1950. The search for orientation and self-positioning of these authors are outlined in case studies. In addition, the common poetic strategies are presented systematically.

Pisarz na niwie „regionalności”. Przypadek "Kroniki olsztyńskiej" Gałczyńskiego

Autor eseju prowadzi polemikę z tezami książki prof. Zbigniewa Chojnowskiego "Od biografii do recepcji. Ernst Wiechert, Konstanty I. Gałczyński, Zbigniew Herbert na Warmii i Mazurach" (Olsztyn 2011). Jej autor przekonywał, że mazurski mit pobytu K. I. Gałczyńskiego (1905–1953), wybitnego polskiego poety XX wieku, to polityczny wytwór czasów. Pisząc najważniejsze swe dzieła w Leśniczówce Pranie (1950–1953) – w tym poemat "Kronika olsztyńska" – poeta, jak twierdzi badacz, miał nikłą wiedzę o Warmii i Mazurach (wymieniony w tytule poematu Olsztyn leży nie na Mazurach, lecz na Warmii). Dzieła te powstały z chwilowego zauroczenia tym miejscem. Polemista wskazuje, iż kilkuletnie związki z Praniem nie miały charakteru epizodycznego, były szczególnym miejscem w biografii Gałczyńskiego.

"Europäische Revue" y el “Premio literario de las revistas europeas” (1929-30): un proyecto cultural fallido

En 1929 la revista cultural alemana Europäische Revue invitó a otras cuatro publicaciones europeas, de cuatro países diversos, a participar en la puesta en marcha del “Premio literario de las revistas europeas”, que cada año organizaría cada una de las cabeceras, con su idioma como protagonista. Las revistas participantes eran, además de la alemana, la inglesa The Criterion, la española Revista de Occidente, la francesa La Nouvelle Revue française y la italiana Nuova Antologia. Se celebró la primera edición del premio, en lengua alemana, que fue para Der Hauptmann von Kapernaum, de Ernst Wiechert, pero el proyecto quedó después interrumpido. El objetivo del presente artículo es aportar nuevos datos sobre la evolución de esta iniciativa y esgrimir el motivo del fracaso de las ediciones siguientes.

Exil als Heterotopie. Die Dimensionen der Inneren Emigration und des Exils am Beispiel des literarischen Schaffens von Ernst Wiechert

Ernst Wiechert (1887-1950) was an East Prussian-born author who remained mentally related to the natural and cultural landscape of that region. The relation was very strongly reflected in almost all his literary work. The article deals with defining what forms and spaces of emigration and inner emigration are specific to Wiechert. It positively verifies the present state of research which treats Wiechert as the representative of inner emigration. The article also indicates new spaces of emigration (heterotopia according to Michel Foucault's definition) and inner emigration of Wiechert by careful analysis of his autobiographical texts and literary work.
