Coco: Relasi Keluarga Hingga Tradisi Budaya

Keluarga menjadi hal pokok dan pertama dimana relasi diajarkan. Ajaran moral dan pedoman hidup merupakan bagian eksistensi yang nyata dalam bentuk komunikasi anggota keluarga. Wajar adanya jika tema kasih sayang dalam keluarga kerap dijumpai pada sebuah film. Kedekatan emosi, persoalan yang sama, hingga latar cerita membuat tema ini mudah diterima penontonnya. Konflik sederhana namun jika diramu dengan baik tentu akan memikat penonton. Apalagi jika menyajikan visual yang memukau. Coco adalah perjalanan emosional yang mudah dimengerti. Sebuah perjalanan singkat untuk kembali mengenal arti keluarga dan wisata budaya Meksiko dalam Dia de los Muertos. Coco merajut makna kehilangan dan kematian bukan dengan cara klise. Menyuguhkan hal yang tampak lebih indah dalam memaknai sebuah kematian. Nafas naratif tak sekadar dari dialog dan konflik antar tokohnya jauh dari hal itu, Coco menawarkan elemen visual yang menawan. Musik yang saling mengisi emosional tokoh dengan ujung dramatik adegan yang menguras air mata.

THE REPRESENTATION OF MEXICAN CULTURE IN DISNEY PIXAR’S MOVIE ENTITLED “COCO”

The aims of this research are (1) to find out the meaning of the day of the dead holiday (Día de Los Muertos) based on the movie; (2) to elaborate on the importance of the day of the dead holiday (Día de Los Muertos); and (3) to find out how to deal with a family conflict during the day of the dead holiday (Día de Los Muertos). This study uses a qualitative approach to address research problems as it enables the researcher to perform in-depth studies of a specific phenomenon. The findings or this research are (1) The meaning of the day of the dead holiday (Día de Los Muertos) based on Coco has some indicators such as symbols, heroes, and ritual (2) How the main character deals with his family conflict is that (a) The conflict which comes from the family culture is making the main character to become a rebel. Conflict is highly present in families; however, in general, the presence of conflict is not problematic by itself. (b) parents are making decisions about what they consider is best for all family members.

Transposição midiática e representação cultural em “Viva – a vida é uma festa” (2018)

O presente artigo discorre sobre as relações intermidiáticas entre o filme “Coco”, que no Brasil recebeu o título “Viva – A vida é uma festa”, e o livro que surgiu do filme em decorrência do seu sucesso comercial. Nessas relações, nosso recorte analítico inclui o tratamento da cultura mexicana no processo de significação artística, dado que o filme possui como leitmotiv o “Día de los muertos”. A metodologia é a análise de cenas do texto fílmico e do texto literário e a fundamentação teórica basilar são os Estudos de Intermidialidade (CLÜVER, 2006; MÜLLER, 2012; RAJEWSKY, 2012a, 2012b). Nos atemos, principalmente, na abordagem proposta por Rajewski (2012), a qual caracteriza-se por seu direcionamento sincrônico e pelo entendimento da intermidialidade como categoria para a análise concreta de textos, como é o caso específico do filme “Viva – A vida é uma festa” e seu processo de transposição midiática. Analisou-se, assim, o processo de significação temática na construção da transposição das imagens visuais e a adaptação de uma mídia para outra, da tela para o livro, em suas diferenças e suas similaridades.

Analisis Elemen Visualisasi Budaya Kematian dalam Film Animasi "Coco"

Film animasi “Coco” karya Studio Pixar (2017) mengangkat upacara adat Dia de los Muertos atau “Hari Kematian” yang dilaksanakan dan dibudayakan oleh masyarakat Meksiko setiap awal November atau tanggal 31 Oktober. Upacara ini diadakan untuk menghormati kerabat mereka yang telah tiada. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk memahami secara mendalam tema dan visualisasi fim tersebut, dan pengaruhnya terhadap hasil film secara keseluruhan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian deskriptif, untuk pemaparan elemen-elemen visual film. Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui berbagai sumber visual dan referensi pustaka, untuk menganalisis tanda-tanda visual pada film animasi “Coco”. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggambaran kematian dalam film tidak selalu harus berhubungan dengan elemen-elemen visual yang pada umumnya diasosiasikan dengan kematian seperti suasana suram yang diciptakan dengan spektrum warna gelap. Visualisasi film “Coco” dibuat untuk merayakan dan menghormati kerabat yang sudah tidak ada. Film ini dengan tema yang diangkat pada akhirnya dapat mendorong penonton untuk mengidentifikasikan cerita yang diangkat dengan budaya mereka dan mendorong pula popularitas film ini dengan masyarakat Meksiko.

Immersion Through Culture: Representations of the “Day of the Dead” in Film

The Mexican celebration of the “Day of the Dead” (Día de Muertos or Día de los Muertos) has been recurrently used in film, with three of the most notable examples ranging from the recent Coco (Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina, 2017) and Spectre (Sam Mendes, 2015), all the way back to the surviving footage of ¡Que Viva Mexico! (Sergei Eisenstein, 1931, unfinished). Though vastly different from one another in almost every respect, all three cases explore the topic of “in-between” both thematically and technically: the celebration that merges life and death becomes a visual metaphor and a tool for filmmakers to explore the ways in which film technique creates overlapping areas between cinema and reality. In each film, a visually powerful cultural asset such as the “Day of the Dead,” is combined with different aspects of film technique, explicitly, but differently, appealing to a kind of sensory immersion in order to attract viewers inside its world. By doing so, the “Day of the Dead” exemplifies the ways in which a common cultural element can help translate the personal visions of different filmmakers into distinct filmic events.
