Florence Nightingale and Responsibility for Healthcare in the Home

The focus for this article is the approach taken by the famous British nurse and public health reformer Florence Nightingale (1820–1910) to responsibility for care, with particular reference to healthcare as practised in the home. It begins by examining Nightingale’s involvement as a young woman in ‘Lady Bountiful’ style upper-class charitable health visiting in the period before 1850. It goes on to consider the district nursing model designed by Nightingale and William Rathbone in the 1860s as an attempt to adapt this localised model of charitable care to the demands of industrial Victorian cities. The final section broadens the lens to examine Nightingale’s views on religious vocations in care work and the state’s expanding role in regulating the nursing profession. Nightingale’s ideal vision of care combined multiple elements: attachment to a local community, a sense of religious vocation, and the scalability and fundraising of national or governmental organizations.

A EMPATIA ENTRE OS PROFISSIONAIS DE ENFERMAGEM EM UMA UNIDADE PEDIÁTRICA DE UM HOSPITAL UNIVERSITÁRIO DURANTE A PANDEMIA

Introdução: No ano de 2020 foi a comemoração internacional da Enfermagem, uma profissão de grande importância no âmbito da saúde, mas ainda pouco valorizada e reconhecida. Tantos projetos e comemorações programadas para o ano que prometia ser promissor para a profissão que data sua iniciação em 200 anos, com a precursora Florence Nightingale, que coincidentemente mostrou-se ao mundo em um momento de extrema necessidade no campo do cuidado na saúde. Naquela época o cuidado não tinha um diferencial na saúde, não se exigia tanto e nem conhecia-se tantos detalhes como hoje se é sabido. A empatia é uma habilidade de interação social constituída por componentes afetivos, cognitivos e comportamentais. No componente afetivo, há uma tendência de experimentação de sinais de simpatia e de compaixão. No cognitivo há concepção da capacidade de interpretar e compreender a perspectiva do outro. Objetivo: demonstrar a empatia entre os profissionais de enfermagem de uma unidade pediátrica de um hospital universitário durante a pandemia de COVID-19 e a solidariedade prestada para o bem-estar comum a todos como fermenta de inclusão. Material e Métodos: vivencia dos membros da equipe de uma unidade pediátrica de um hospital universitário. Resultados: o desamparo, medo, instabilidade diante das notícias, por vezes falta de recursos. Tais sentimentos humanos são totalmente compreensíveis diante de situações como a de pandemia, onde muitos estados declararam situação de emergência ou calamidade pública. A enfermagem que compreende um componente próprio de conhecimentos científicos e técnicos, construído e reproduzido por um conjunto de práticas sociais, éticas e políticas que se processa pelo ensino. Esse relato de experiência evidencia a importância da construção de um ambiente de trabalho agradável, onde haja uma preocupação com o estado emocional de cada trabalhador e como isso pode influenciar em suas atividades laborais. Conclusão: Levando-se em conta o que foi observado, há uma necessidade de organização dos serviços e da valorização dos profissionais, tendo em vista o quanto são importantes somados a equipe. Bem como esta prática pode leva-los a reflexões acerca do comportamento, implicando em um processo de mudança, visto que o sentir é algo particular.

O enfermeiro na qualidade e segurança do paciente

Na enfermagem, o cuidado e segurança do paciente é um fator primordial desde os tempos de Florence Nightingale e muitos pesquisadores acreditam que as teorias ajudam na obtenção de melhores resultados na enfermagem. O objetivo da pesquisa foi conhecer as evidências científicas a respeito dos processos de trabalho que englobam a segurança do paciente e o gerenciamento de risco. Percurso metodológico do tipo Revisão Integrativa de Literatura, através do modelo descritivo, com abordagem qualitativa. Para análise, foi utilizada a “Análise do Conteúdo Temático de Bardin”. Para coleta de dados, foi utilizado um instrumento adaptado de (Ursi 2005). Para busca científica foram selecionados artigos referentes ao período de 2016 a 2020, que tinham como descritores: “Enfermagem”; “Gestão de qualidade”; “Segurança do paciente”. Foram buscados os acervos nas bases de dados da LILACS e SCIELO. A amostra final foi composta por 12 artigos científicos, sendo que nos resultados houve maior concentração na base de dados SCIELO com 7 artigos, correspondendo a 58 % e no LILACS com 5 artigos, correspondendo a 42 % do total da amostra. Discutiu-se sobre como são desempenhados os processos de trabalho realizados por enfermeiros e como a sua percepção é importante no pensar e tomar decisões. As relações diárias com membros de outras áreas de atuação para almejar propósitos através das capacitações, ciclos de melhorias nos leva a identificar o sistema social nessas atividades, que além de uma interação dinâmica, leva esses profissionais a trabalhar em conjunto em prol de um bem comum: a segurança do paciente.

Dia 12 de maio comemora-se mundialmente o Dia do Enfermeiro, em referência a Florence Nightingale, um marco da enfermagem moderna no mundo e que nasceu em 12 de maio de 1820, também comemoramos no Brasil, no dia 20 de maio, o dia Nacional dos Técnicos e Auxiliares de Enfermagem, em memória ao falecimento de Ana Neri em 20 de maio de 1880. A Semana de Enfermagem, que acontece na semana de 12 a 20 de maio, é um evento comemorado em todo o Brasil, nas Instituições que dispõem de Profissionais de Enfermagem, data instituída em meados dos anos 40 em homenagem a duas grandes personagens da enfermagem no mundo. O Hospital Universitário da Universidade Federal do Piauí (HU-UFPI) anualmente realiza evento em alusão a Semana de Enfermagem, a Mostra Cientifica de Práticas de Enfermagem (MEENFHU-UFPI) se destina a socialização de experiências cotidianas de gerenciamento do cuidado e assistência de enfermagem dos profissionais de enfermagem do HU-UFPI/EBSERH. Tem como público-alvo os enfermeiros e técnicos de enfermagem lotados no HU-UFPI sob quaisquer vínculos, bem como docentes e discentes da Universidade federal do Piauí (UFPI).

Duties and Responsibilities of Staff Nurse- A Study

Nursing has come a very, very long way in the past century. However, some of the challenges highlighted by nurse leaders in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s, still face the profession a century later even though their exact nature might be somewhat different. Throughout the history of nursing, most of the challenges can be linked to the gender and class barriers faced by women in society and the ever-present economic demands of the healthcare industry.The Staff Nurse is the first level professional Nurse in the hospital set up. Therefore by appearance and by word she will be professional at all time. Taking a walk through the history of nursing, the shortage of nurses appears to have been a problem from the time when the value of trained nurses in hospitals and the community was recognized. From the mid-1800’s, when scientific developments in Western medicine increasingly led to successful treatment, hospitals changed from places where the sick and destitute were cared for to institutions where the ill were admitted for treatment. The time was ripe when Florence Nightingale introduced formal training of nurses, and since then, it appears that the demand for qualified nurses increased exponentially. The objective of obtaining state registration for nurses was the priority issue for nurse activists from the 1880’s. At the Chicago World’s Fair, British nurses introduced the nurse leaders from all over the world to the idea of state registration for nurses as well as the issue of standards for nurse training schools, which would satisfy a requirement to introduce registration. The struggle for state registration was at the time also the main driving force behind the establishment of nursing organizations in various countries. PROTOCOLO NÃO-FARMACOLÓGICO PARA O ALÍVIO DA DOR DURANTE O TRABALHO DE PARTO: ATUAÇÃO DO ENFERMEIRO OBSTETRA

Introdução: No âmbito da enfermagem, o empreendedorismo mostra-se evidente desde o século XIX, no qual é marcado através da atuação pioneira de Florence Nightingale, responsável pelo início às bases científicas da profissão. O Brasil, atualmente, apresenta o registro de 196 empresas dedicadas para atividade de enfermagem e, muitas dessas, compreendem a assistência para o alívio da dor. Nesse sentido, como forma de avaliar a dor e realizar o manejo adequado, foram levantadas as principais terapias não-farmacológicas e a mensuração através de escalas de dor pelo enfermeiro empreendedor, pautado na autonomia e ética da atuação profissional, promovendo o alívio e gerenciamento da dor de forma efetiva. Objetivos: Revisar publicações referentes as medidas não-farmacológicas empregadas no alívio da dor e propor um protocolo para o alívio da dor na atuação do enfermeiro empreendedor. Material e métodos: Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa da literatura realizada por meio das bases de dados: BDENF, LILACS, PubMed, e na biblioteca eletrônica SciELO, com o cruzamento dos descritores encontrados no DeCS: Alívio da dor; Dor do Trabalho de Parto; Cuidados de enfermagem; Enfermeiro; Empreendedorismo; Terapias Complementares. Compuseram este trabalho artigos originais em português e inglês publicados no período de 2013 a 2021. Foram excluídas duplicidades, teses, dissertações e revisões de literatura. Foram respeitados os direitos dos autores das literaturas. Resultados: Foram identificados dez artigos, sendo seis publicados em periódicos nacionais e quatro em internacionais, referente ao alívio da dor por meios não-farmacológicos. Conclusão: Diante o exposto, através da revisão de literatura e a proposta de protocolo, compreende-se que o enfermeiro empreendedor tem papel fundamental no que tange o alívio da dor aguda e crônica por medidas não-farmacológicas, no qual essa revisão contribui no que consiste o direcionamento do profissional para a conduta terapêutica adequada, com importante relevância da dor aguda e crônica. Assim, o protocolo consiste em importante relevância para a redução das consequências do uso de fármacos, bem como a asserção permite uma valorização da profissão, diante a sociedade, de modo que o enfermeiro empreendedor exprime aspectos específicos como autonomia, atuação de forma holística e humanizada, conquista novos cenários de atuação voltados ao cuidado e assistência.

<p>The purpose of this study was to explore the history of the Florence Nightingale Medal and in particular its New Zealand recipients. New Zealand nurses have, over many years, contributed to international nursing by providing service during conflicts and disasters. Several have worked with the Red Cross and, of these nurses, twenty-two have been awarded its highest honour, the Florence Nightingale Medal. This thesis related the history of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and its place in humanitarian and international nursing. It traces New Zealand nursing's involvement in this, and offers a history of the New Zealand recipients of the Florence Nightingale Medal, 1920-1999. The personal and professional stories of five New Zealand nurses who were awarded the medal between 1969 and 1999 were gathered through oral history interviews. Their stories are used to consider in more detail the motivations and experiences of nurses who work in these circumstances, and the way in which humanitarian nursing practice and Red Cross principles shaped and challenged their practice. The thesis therefore documents the work of five New Zealand nurses who have demonstrated exceptional courage, dedication, and commitment to humanitarian causes and international nursing practice. As an exploratory and descriptive study which has drawn on both historical and contemporary sources of information, it raises awareness about the Red Cross and its nurses, humanitarian nursing practice in particular, and international nursing in general.</p>

Als Advanced Practice Nurse aktiv die Pflegepraxis mitgestalten

Zusammenfassung. Hintergrund: Die Entwicklung von Advanced Practice Nurses (APN-Rollen) im akutstationären Setting in Deutschland ist stark von Kontextfaktoren abhängig. Diese Etablierung von APN-Rollen in der direkten Patientenversorgung stellt einen tiefgreifenden Organisationsentwicklungsprozess dar. Im Jahr 2010 begann im Florence-Nightingale-Krankenhaus in Düsseldorf die Implementierung von APN-Rollen. Ziel: Unsere Erfahrung in der Entwicklung von APN-Rollen und darüber hinaus die Identifikation von beeinflussenden Faktoren zu reflektieren. Die Erhebung fördernder und hemmender Faktoren soll zukünftige APN-Rollenentwicklungen und Interventionen unterstützen. Methoden: Mithilfe des Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) haben vier Pflegeexpertinnen APN einen teilstrukturierten Rückblick vorgenommen. Hierzu wurde der zyklische Prozess der kritischen Selbstreflexion nach Titchen (2009) verwendet. Ergebnisse: Die Einflussfaktoren wurden in Kategorien zusammengefasst. Differenziert dargestellt werden die Kategorien: Unterstützung durch die Managementebene, Erkennen von Veränderungsbedarf, Fachliche Expertise, Präsenz vor Ort, Selbstwirksamkeit und persönliche Eigenschaften sowie Rollenklarheit. Diskussion: Die Implementierung von APN-Rollen braucht Zeit und Ausdauer, sowohl von der Organisation als auch von den jeweiligen Pflegeexpert_innen APN. Die Erlangung von Rollenklarheit ist in diesem Prozess substanziell. Grenzen und Transfer: Dieser Reflexionsbericht stellt kontextbezogene Ergebnisse dar. Die identifizierten Einflussfaktoren können jedoch eine Hilfestellung für zukünftige Implementierungsprozesse und Entwicklungen von APN-Rollen darstellen.
