Systematic Progress Monitoring of Individualized Education Program Goals in Mathematics

The review of Endrew F. v. Douglas County School District case revealed that an individualized education program (IEP) requires inclusion of specific measurable goals to ensure educational benefit. The purpose of this article was to provide a systematic approach to progress monitoring IEP goals in mathematics, which monitors whether a student is benefiting from the mathematics instruction being provided. Using curriculum-based measures (CBM) is discussed as a feasible tool for monitoring the progress of students and creating specific measurable IEP goals. The article includes step-by-step strategies and guidelines for teachers to collect CBM data, create strategic IEP goals, and evaluate student progress.

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic urology trainees in the West of Scotland

Hospitals worldwide have taken unprecedented steps to cope with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Changes to services created challenges for delivering training in urology. Statutory education bodies implemented processes addressing trainee progression, but the extent of training disruption has not been quantified. To establish the impact on urology trainees in the West of Scotland, online questionnaires were sent to trainees and educational supervisors. Twenty-five trainees working at six hospitals across four health boards responded. Elective operating was significantly reduced, with 64% of trainees having no weekly sessions. Before the pandemic, the majority of trainees (92%) had one or two clinic sessions or more per week, but with new measures, 76% of trainees did not attend clinics. Trainee attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings halved during the pandemic. Sixteen per cent ( n=4) of trainees were redeployed, with 50% ( n=2) reporting no educational benefit. Commonly used alternative educational resources included webinars (52%) and online teaching modules (28%). Thirty-two per cent ( n=8) of trainees had examinations postponed. COVID-19 has impacted urology training in the West of Scotland, with a significant reduction in training opportunities across elective theatre, clinic exposure and education. However, trainees will be more adaptable, learn to work remotely, have opportunities to develop leadership and may help redesign services for the future of urology. MANGAJI: REINTERPRETASI SASTRA LISAN DALAM KOMPOSISI MUSIK

Komposisi “Mangaji” merupakan bentuk pengkaryaan programa, yang dilatar belakangi oleh sastra lisan pasambahan Minangkabau sebagai ide penciptaan karya. Sastra lisan yang merupakan sajian yang selalu bersentuhan dalam kehidupan masyarakat Minangkabau digarap secara reinterpretasi oleh pengkarya dengan melihat aspek-aspek yang dimiliki sastra lisan, mampu menjadi penawaran baru dalam penggarapan komposisi musik. Penyusunan karya “Mangaji” menggunakan empat tahapan sampai karya menjadi rangkaian yang utuh, yaitu,: rangsangan awal, observasi dan pengumpulan data, eksplorasi, dan terakhir penyusunan hasil dari ekplorasi sebagai materi komposisi. Proses explorasi pada komposisi terdiri atas dua bentuk, yaitu pencocokan sumber dengan ide garap dan penyusunan materi dari hasil pencocokan sebelumnya, dengan menggunakan proses musikal. Proses ini meliputi menentukan tema, sub tema, penentuan aspek komposisi seperti dinamika, pengembangan motif dan penggarapan rasa pada setiap bagian. Komposisi “Mangaji” diharapkan menjadi alternatif, referensi, dan rujukan dalam penggarapan karya baru dalam ranah akademisi maupun dalam lingkup luas, sebagai manfaat yang edukatif dalam lingkup penciptaan musik baru.The composition of "Mangaji" is a form of program work, which is based on the Minangkabau post-added oral literature as the idea of creating works. Oral literature, which is a presentation that always touches the life of the Minangkabau people, is reinterpreted by the author by looking at the aspects of oral literature that can become a new offering in the cultivation of musical compositions. The creation of "Mangaji" uses four stages until the work becomes a complete series, they are: Initial Stimulation, Observation and Data Collection, Exploration, and finally composing the results of the exploration as material composition. The process of exploration in the composition consists of two forms, namely matching the source with the working idea and arranging the material from the previous matching results using the musical process. This process includes determining themes, sub themes, determining aspects of composition such as dynamics, developing motifs and cultivating tastes in each section. The composition of Mangaji is expected to be an alternative, reference, and recomendation in the cultivation of new works in the academic real or in a broad scope, as an educational benefit in the scope of new music creation..

Abstract 15181: The National Pediatric Cardiology Boot Camp Training Program - Five Years’ Evidence of Consistent Educational Benefit

Introduction: The transition from residency to subspecialty fellowship in pediatric cardiology is challenging, with the daunting requirement to rapidly acquire a broad scope of knowledge and skill. In 2015, a pediatric cardiology boot camp was designed as an educational tool to help prepare trainees for this transition. Hypothesis: A national pediatric cardiology boot camp consistently improves knowledge and decreases anxiety for prospective fellows. Methods: In late spring each year (2015-2019), a 2.5-day intensive program was provided for trainees prior to beginning fellowship in July. Hands-on, simulation-based experiences were provided on topics including anatomy, auscultation, echocardiography, catheterization, cardiovascular intensive care, electrophysiology, heart failure, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiac surgery. Knowledge based exams and surveys were completed by each participant pre- and post-training. Pre- and post-training exam results were compared via paired t-tests and survey results were compared via Wilcoxon rank sum. Results: Over 5 years 144 participants (72 female, 50%) completed the course, representing 40 fellowship programs in the United States and Canada. In aggregate, significant improvement was seen in participants’ knowledge assessment (pre 45 ± 11% vs. post 71 ± 9%; p<0.0001). Post-intervention tests showed significant increases in knowledge every year, with a similar mean rate of improvement from year to year (25±10%; p=0.15). Participants in 2015 did score higher on both pre and post testing (pre 55±10%, post 85±7%; p<0.0001), but the improvement rate remained consistent. Pre- and post-program surveys showed significant improvement in 38 of 38 domains assessing comfort and anxiety (p<0.001 for each domain). All participants strongly agreed (97%) or agreed (3%) that the boot camp was a valuable learning experience and 98% strongly agreed (66%) or agreed (32%) that boot camp alleviated anxieties about starting fellowship. Conclusions: The Pediatric Cardiology Boot Camp provides a significant and reproducible educational benefit to participants nationwide. This intensive program simultaneously improves learners’ knowledge and alleviates anxiety as they transition to subspecialty training.

Nusantara Mask Heritage (Nusmari Indonesia): Augmented Reality-Based Infographic Application for Mask Collection in Museum Panji Malang As Learning Media for Traditional Masks and Gender Performativity

Masks have varied roles and uses in every region and country due to the different cultures and beliefs, and uses include worship, provision, and dance. Today, a lot of historical masks are preserved in museums, offering information about shapes, uses, and gender performativity. In Museum Panji, Malang District, Indonesia, a big collection of historical masks is used as a learning source for teenagerss, adults, and researchers. Unfortunately, most of the masks displayed there do not have informative labels, despite the educational benefit of such tagging for visitors. However, researchers have developed a product called NUSANTARA MASK HERITAGE (NUSMARI INDONESIA): Augmented Reality-Based Infographic Application for Mask Collection in Museum Panji Malang as appealing and innovative Learning Media for Traditional Masks and Gender Performativity. This application was based upon a study of traditional masks and gender performativity which is then developed into a digital learning media that helps visitors acquire information. Horizon Zero Dawn: The Educational Influence of Video Games in Counteracting Gender Stereotypes

This paper argues that narrative video games have a potential educational benefit in counteracting stereotypes and promoting gender equality. In particular, the study focuses on a specific video game, Horizon Zero Dawn (2017). Firstly, this paper analyses the traditional female models promoted in video games and their influence on the construction of gender ideals. Then, Horizon Zero Dawn is explored, paying attention to the representation of femininity and masculinity within the game, as it emerges through its main characters and their interactions within the narrative. Thecontribution analyses a specific case study in order to investigate the potential influence of non-stereotyped narrative video games on the perception of gender norms.
