Parents play a key role in the youth sports educational experience. They are responsible for the introduction of their children to physical or sporting education and their involvement has been associated with sport participation in early stages. The aims of this cross-sectional study were, first, to assess the perceived and desired parental involvement by children and, secondly, to examine their satisfaction or dissatisfaction with any specific behavior. 80 male soccer players filled the Parental Involvement in Sport Questionnaire (PISQ) before or after a training session in presence of a coach. PISQ results revealed excessive active involvement and pressure, insufficient praise and understanding and satisfactory directive behavior from children’s parents. Our findings suggest that excessive parental involvement can cause pressure on children who would prefer parental participation characterized by praise and understanding. A balance between a supporting involvement without putting too much pressure is needed by the parents. To prevent burnout and dropout and to facilitate future practice, parents should be counseled (possibly by a sport educator) on how to positively support their children concerning their sport experience.

The present study analyzed the relationships between directive, self and social functions of autobiographical memory, personality traits, as defined by the Five Factor model, and the Facebook mementos. We defined Facebook mementos as objective measures of the textual (i.e., Facebook Status Updating) and visual (i.e., Photos uploading) information people record on their Facebook profiles. Questionnaires gathered data from a sample of 193 Italian Facebook users (148 female; 45 male; age M = 22.8, SD = 6.8). Results at path analysis using AMOS showed direct significant positive associations between personality traits related to extraversion, openness, neuroticism, conscientiousness and Facebook mementos. Extraversion and openness were positive precursors of the directive, self and social functions of autobiographical memory, whereas neuroticism predicted directive and self-functions, and conscientiousness was a positive precursor of the directive function of autobiographical memory. As well, indirect significant positive paths among extraversion, neuroticism, openness and the frequency of photos uploaded on Facebook for collecting life events have emerged via the mediation of the self-continuity function of autobiographical memory. In sum, the present study highlights how individual differences in motivations for using autobiographical memory for directive-behavior, self-continuity or social-bonding purposes deeply related with the personal experience of using social media as a repository tool for textual or visual information.

This mixed methods research examines the relationship between principal leadership and school climate. A sample of 63 elementary teachers evaluated their school climate and leadership through the OCDQ-RE and the MLQ-5X and expressed their views on both by responding to open-ended questions. Quantitative analysis for both questionnaires, correlations between the dimensions of the two instruments and qualitative analysis of the open-ended questions were conducted to determine the leadership characteristics and behaviors that impact school climate the most. Both principals scored high on supportive and directive behavior and were “more transformational” and “more transactional than the norm”; teachers scored high on collegial and intimate behavior; school climates were determined to be open. Correlational analysis revealed significant positive relationships between the characteristics of transformational and transactional leadership and both supportive and directive principal behaviors; qualitative results showed that characteristics of transformational leadership and supportive principal behaviors have the most impact on school climate. The results of this study revealed that although the principals were perceived as highly directive, the climates were still open. This calls for further exploration of the impact of principal behaviors on school climate and whether teacher behaviors are more significant determinants of school climate than principal behaviors are.
