Background: Addiction and mental health (AMH) professionals often experience high levels of burnout, which can lead to detrimental outcomes for patient care and safety and the AMH professional themselves. Interventions aimed at improving well-being can be useful to tackle the issues surrounding burnout. Specifically, implementing activity-based events (ABEs), which encourages individuals to be more physically active, can be useful in improving physical, mental, and social well-being. Alberta Health Services AMH, Edmonton Zone, implemented a Sports Day event to promote well-being as a way to help offset the risk of burnout. Methods: This was an online anonymous cross-sectional, postsurvey evaluation. The postsurvey was administered to 243 AMH staff and physicians who registered for Sports Day. Findings: The responses from 66 AMH staff and physician attendees indicated that individuals were highly satisfied with the event and felt that Sports Day promoted positive mental and physical well-being, helped to develop a sense of community, and strengthened colleague relationships. Conclusions/Application to Professional Practice: The results build on the literature examining the effects of single-day ABEs and can be implemented by health care organizations to promote staff and physician well-being via increased physical activity. Single-day ABEs, like Sports Day, can promote mental, physical, and social well-being. Organizing a sports day event is a feasible way to help offset the risk of burnout and is generally well received by individuals.

Abstract Voluntary employee turnover can cause organizations to lose profits and competitiveness. Unexpected employee turnover may also result in project delay and reduction in project quality. It is important to control employee turnover rate and maintain good employees within an organization. This paper investigates the major causes of voluntary employee turnover in engineering industries. Australia, Mainland China, and Taiwan were selected for the investigation. Questionnaires were administered, and structured interviews were conducted. Power spectrum was used for the analysis. It was found that “Good physical working environment”, “Receiving advanced training”, and “Short travel distance between home and work” are the major job-related ideal factors for the Australian, Mainland China, and Taiwan respondents, respectively. However, “Far distance between work and home” and “Dislike the colleague relationships” are found as the major factors for leaving jobs for the Australian/ Taiwan and Mainland China respondents, respectively. Recommendations to improve and to control employee turnover rate are also discussed.

School is an important element in the reality of a young human. In its space a student spends a large part of his daily life. The school, aware of its importance, is trying to best fulfill this tasks. Particular role is played in the case of a student with a disability, whose functioning is inherently inhibited. Students with intellectual disabilities are based in a very bad position, what is shown in the presented diagnosis. The diagnosis was carried out in the area of qualitative research the individual case method using an interview technique was applied. The principles of relational diagnosis were referred to. 13-years old Mateusz, a student of fourth grade of elementary integration school, with intellectual disability at light level was interviewed. The research material was enriched with interviews with the boy's mother and his tutor, a Maths teacher. The students areas of functioning at the school were analyzed in basics: task-based functioning, relations with adults and colleagues and his self image. The diagnosis shows unfavorable situation of the boy at school. There is disorder in all areas his functioning (according relations between the subject and the adults at the school are relatively most favorable). The boy cannot cope with task situations as a student and friend. Although he attends the integration class he does not feel a full member, his colleague relationships are poor and often disorderly. He does not like to go to school, he cannot cope with study, he has low self-esteem. The causes of this state should be seen in intellectual disability and unfortunately in school environment deficiencies. In order to improve the situation, changes are necessary both in the education of students with disabilities, assistance provided to them, as well as in educational support for the social integration of students with disabilities. Without appropriate actions, these students are doomed to school failure, to the threat of social exclusion.

[ACCESS RESTRICTED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI AT AUTHOR'S REQUEST.] Researchers have long documented issues with gender equity in higher education, especially in STEM fields, but less attention has been directed to gender equity in fields that fall under humanities and fine arts--including theatre, where women have already achieved greater equity in terms of their presence in the field. Assuming gender parity based on numbers, however, is problematic, leaving out the opportunity for understanding how overarching institutional structures impact the experience of individual women. Employing narrative inquiry, this study explored the experiences of fifteen, Ph.D. holding tenure track or tenured women theatre faculty at research institutions through in-depth, semi-structured interviews. This study found there is a subtlety and pervasiveness to sexism and gender bias that can function differently in departments of theatre and based on one's status/rank. The participants felt that the respect given to their man counterparts was not equally given to them. These women theatre faculty felt the need to change appearance and personality to be the part of professor, as professor is not traditionally “woman.” Additionally, women are doing the carework at home and work, and the unpaid burden of service and emotional labor that is put on women theatre faculty affects their productivity. The findings identified that women theatre faculty need support systems in both colleague relationships and in their personal lives, and work/life balance and professional environment are key factors in working in the profession. The findings show that through resiliency, women theatre faculty find their own ways to succeed in a system that works for them. It also shows that women are aware of how their needs are different from the normative expectations of the academic work environment.

AbstractThis research reviews the constructs and measurements of guanxi and concludes that colleague guanxi is appropriately conceptualized as a multidimensional construct that describes Chinese colleague relationships. The development of a colleague guanxi scale with four dimensions is described. Two studies test the convergent, discriminant, and nomological validity of the guanxi scale. In validation tests guanxi intensity increases with cognition features (subjective fit and cognitive trust) and results in a positive affect (affective trust). Contributions of the colleague guanxi scale are offered.
