We prove the deformation invariance of Kodaira dimension and of certain plurigenera and the existence of canonical models for log surfaces which are smooth over an integral Noetherian scheme $S$ .

This chapter shows that the operation φ‎ 𝑉 of the definition introduced in the previous chapter extends to a cohomology operation over 𝑘, and that it satisfies the recognition criterion of a theorem, so that φ‎ 𝑉 must be β‎𝑃𝑏. This construction of the cohomology operation utilizes the machinery of motives over a simplicial noetherian scheme. The chapter first presents this scheme in three parts, initially summarizing the basic theory of motives over a scheme 𝑆 before discussing motives over a simplicial scheme and over a smooth simplicial scheme. It then presents the slice filtration and generalizes from simplicial scheme 𝔛 to embedded schemes. Finally, this chapter defines the operations φ‎ 𝑖 and φ‎ 𝑉.

AbstractSuppose{({\mathscr{T}},\otimes,\mathds{1})}is a tensor triangulated category. In a number of recent articles Balmer defines and explores the notion of “separable tt-rings” in{{\mathscr{T}}}(in this paper we will call them “separable monoids”). The main result of this article is that, if{{\mathscr{T}}}is the derived quasicoherent category of a noetherian schemeX, then the only separable monoids are the pushforwards by étale maps of smashing Bousfield localizations of the structure sheaf.

Let$S$be a Noetherian scheme of finite dimension and denote by$\unicode[STIX]{x1D70C}\in [\unicode[STIX]{x1D7D9},\mathbb{G}_{m}]_{\mathbf{SH}(S)}$the (additive inverse of the) morphism corresponding to$-1\in {\mathcal{O}}^{\times }(S)$. Here$\mathbf{SH}(S)$denotes the motivic stable homotopy category. We show that the category obtained by inverting$\unicode[STIX]{x1D70C}$in$\mathbf{SH}(S)$is canonically equivalent to the (simplicial) local stable homotopy category of the site$S_{\text{r}\acute{\text{e}}\text{t}}$, by which we mean thesmallreal étale site of$S$, comprised of étale schemes over$S$with the real étale topology. One immediate application is that$\mathbf{SH}(\mathbb{R})[\unicode[STIX]{x1D70C}^{-1}]$is equivalent to the classical stable homotopy category. In particular this computes all the stable homotopy sheaves of the$\unicode[STIX]{x1D70C}$-local sphere (over$\mathbb{R}$). As further applications we show that$D_{\mathbb{A}^{1}}(k,\mathbb{Z}[1/2])^{-}\simeq \mathbf{DM}_{W}(k)[1/2]$(improving a result of Ananyevskiy–Levine–Panin), reprove Röndigs’ result that$\text{}\underline{\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}}_{i}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D7D9}[1/\unicode[STIX]{x1D702},1/2])=0$for$i=1,2$and establish some new rigidity results.

This paper concerns the classification of isogeny classes of$p$-divisible groups with saturated Newton polygons. Let$S$be a normal Noetherian scheme in positive characteristic$p$with a prime Weil divisor$D$. Let${\mathcal{X}}$be a$p$-divisible group over$S$whose geometric fibers over$S\setminus D$(resp. over$D$) have the same Newton polygon. Assume that the Newton polygon of${\mathcal{X}}_{D}$is saturated in that of${\mathcal{X}}_{S\setminus D}$. Our main result (Corollary 1.1) says that${\mathcal{X}}$is isogenous to a$p$-divisible group over$S$whose geometric fibers are all minimal. As an application, we give a geometric proof of the unpolarized analogue of Oort’s conjecture (Oort, J. Amer. Math. Soc.17(2) (2004), 267–296; 6.9).

Making use of Gruson–Raynaud’s technique of ‘platification par éclatement’, Kerz and Strunk proved that the negative homotopy$K$-theory groups of a Noetherian scheme$X$of Krull dimension$d$vanish below$-d$. In this article, making use of noncommutative algebraic geometry, we improve this result in the case of quotient singularities by proving that the negative homotopy$K$-theory groups vanish below$-1$. Furthermore, in the case of cyclic quotient singularities, we provide an explicit ‘upper bound’ for the first negative homotopy$K$-theory group.

We define a theory of étale motives over a noetherian scheme. This provides a system of categories of complexes of motivic sheaves with integral coefficients which is closed under the six operations of Grothendieck. The rational part of these categories coincides with the triangulated categories of Beilinson motives (and is thus strongly related to algebraic $K$-theory). We extend the rigidity theorem of Suslin and Voevodsky over a general base scheme. This can be reformulated by saying that torsion étale motives essentially coincide with the usual complexes of torsion étale sheaves (at least if we restrict ourselves to torsion prime to the residue characteristics). As a consequence, we obtain the expected results of absolute purity, of finiteness, and of Grothendieck duality for étale motives with integral coefficients, by putting together their counterparts for Beilinson motives and for torsion étale sheaves. Following Thomason’s insights, this also provides a conceptual and convenient construction of the $\ell$-adic realization of motives, as the homotopy $\ell$-completion functor.

AbstractWe show how a theorem of Gabber on alterations can be used to apply the work of Cisinski, Suslin, Voevodsky, and Weibel to prove that $K_n(X) \otimes \mathbb{Z}[{1}/{p}]= 0$ for$n < {-}\! \dim X$ where $X$ is a quasi-excellent noetherian scheme, $p$ is a prime that is nilpotent on $X$, and $K_n$ is the $K$-theory of Bass–Thomason–Trobaugh. This gives a partial answer to a question of Weibel.

We construct monads for framed torsion-free sheaves on blow-ups of the complex projective plane at finitely many distinct points. Using these monads we prove that the moduli space of such sheaves is a smooth algebraic variety. Moreover, we construct monads for families of such sheaves parametrized by a noetherian scheme S of finite type. A universal monad on the moduli space is introduced and used to prove that the moduli space is fine.
