Temperature sounding of the atmosphere over the Indian region using satellite data

Capability has been developed at the INSAT Meteorological Data Utilisation Centre (MDUC). New Delhi for making sounding retrievals using data from the U.S. Polar Orbiting Satellites; The International TOYS Processing Package (ITPP) developed by the University of Wisconsin, USA, was used for asking temperature soundings software for front-end processing and input of 1000 hPa analysis data Into the retrieval algorithm was developed at MDUC. In the physical retrieval method regression estimates generated listing stratospheric level HIRS channels and MSU channels were used as Initial guess. For the surface, two options were used, (i) climatological guess, and (ii) 1000 hPa analysis. The paper discusses temperature retrievals over the Indian region made on 13 selected dates from different seasons in 1989-91. Results of comparison of satellite retrievals with colocated radiosonde data are presented. There is good agreement between the two from 700 hPa to 150 hPa levels, with RMSE with 3 C. The error is higher at 850 hPa and near the surface, when climatologic IS used as surface guess, but IS within 3°-4° C when the 1000 hPa analysis is used.

Using Statewide Electronic Health Record and Influenza Vaccination Data to Plan and Prioritize COVID-19 Vaccine Outreach and Communications in Wisconsin Communities

The University of Wisconsin Neighborhood Health Partnerships Program used electronic health record and influenza vaccination data to estimate COVID-19 relative mortality risk and potential barriers to vaccination in Wisconsin ZIP Code Tabulation Areas. Data visualization revealed four groupings to use in planning and prioritizing vaccine outreach and communication based on ZIP Code Tabulation Area characteristics. The program provided data, visualization, and guidance to health systems, health departments, nonprofits, and others to support planning targeted outreach approaches to increase COVID-19 vaccination uptake. The Irving S. Wright Award of Distinction Lecture will feature an address by the 2021 recipient Malene Hansen, PhD of the Buck Institue for Research on Aging. The Vincent Cristofalo Rising Star Award in Aging Research lecture will feature an address by the 2021 recipient, Morgan Levine, PhD, of Yale University. This award is given by the American Federation for Aging Research, Inc. The Terrie Fox Wetle Award lecture will feature an address by the 2020 recipient, Kali Thomas, PhD, FGSA of Brown University and an address by the 2021 recpient, Andrea Gilmore-Bykovskyi of the University of Wisconsin, Madison. These awards are given by the American Federation for Aging Research, Inc.

The effect of blood cells retained in rat livers during static cold storage on viability outcomes during normothermic machine perfusion

In transplantation, livers are transported to recipients using static cold storage (SCS), whereby livers are exposed to cold ischemic injury that contribute to post-transplant risk factors. We hypothesized that flushing organs during procurement with cold preservation solutions could influence the number of donor blood cells retained in the allograft thereby exacerbating cold ischemic injury. We present the results of rat livers that underwent 24 h SCS after being flushed with a cold University of Wisconsin (UW) solution versus room temperature (RT) lactated ringers (LR) solution. These results were compared to livers that were not flushed prior to SCS and thoroughly flushed livers without SCS. We used viability and injury metrics collected during normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) and the number of retained peripheral cells (RPCs) measured by histology to compare outcomes. Compared to the cold UW flush group, livers flushed with RT LR had lower resistance, lactate, AST, and ALT at 6 h of NMP. The number of RPCs also had significant positive correlations with resistance, lactate, and potassium levels and a negative correlation with energy charge. In conclusion, livers exposed to cold UW flush prior to SCS appear to perform worse during NMP, compared to RT LR flush.

Applying Health in All Policies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison

The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s (UW-Madison) response to the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrates how prioritizing health in campus policies is necessary to achieve better health, educational, and workforce outcomes. COVID-19 cases increased on campus as students attended in-person classes at the beginning of the 2020-21 academic year, though dampened as the university ramped up protective measures. Harm may have been prevented had proactive and analytical approaches to policy making, which are foundational to a Health in All Policies (HiAP) approach, been implemented sooner. Specifically, comprehensive and rapid Health Impact Assessments could enhance university leadership’s ability to mitigate the negative effects of existing and future policies. Here, we recognize the COVID-19 pandemic as a justifiable catalyst for implementing a HiAP approach in UW-Madison policymaking. We recommend that the university establish a HiAP subcommittee within the Division of Diversity, Equity & Educational Achievement. This action standardizes the use of tools essential to HiAP across campus while limiting the demand on existing university committees and other administrative offices.

294 Evaluation of radiographic response in the intact renal mass (intact-Rmass) to immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) combination regimens in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC)

BackgroundAs most of the patients previously enrolled in trials had nephrectomy before starting systemic treatment (syst-Rx), the response of the intact-Rmass to novel ICI and tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) combination regimens is not well described.MethodsA retrospective review of 227 patients with mRCC who were treated with ICI (single agent or combinations) in the 1st- or 2nd-line was conducted. Following the appropriate regulatory process, collaborators from 6 US sites collected clinical, pathological, and outcome data via chart review. Overall response was investigator-assessed for all patients with at least one post-treatment scan or evidence of clinical progression after treatment initiation. Overall radiographic response (ORR) represents any radiographic response in the metastatic disease per investigator’s assessment. To accurately assess response in intact-Rmass, 3-dimensional measurement of the intact-Rmass was performed and Rmass volume was calculated at baseline and at the time of best overall response for 1st- and 2nd-line therapy. Radiographic response in intact-Rmass is defined as >30% decrease in the Rmass volume.ResultsMedian age at diagnosis was 62 years, 69% were male, 82% had clear cell histology. 15% and 12% had sarcomatoid and rhabdoid features, respectively. Overall, 82 patients (36%) had a measurable intact-Rmass while receiving syst-Rx. 63 (28%) patients never had a nephrectomy, and 10 (4%) patients had delayed nephrectomy after a good overall response to syst-Rx. 108 (48%) received ICI in 1st-line (88/108 received ipilimumab/nivolumab combination). 91 (40%), and 18 (8%) patients received TKI, or ICI+TKI in 1st-line. 161 (71%) and 86 (38%) of the patients received 2nd-line and 3rd-line therapy, respectively. 104 (46%) received ICI in 2nd-line (75/104 treated with single-agent ICI). 48 (21%), and 4 (2%) patients received TKI, or ICI+TKI in 2nd-line. Radiographic response in intact-Rmass for evaluable patients is summarized in table 1. The highest response rates in intact-Rmass were seen with ICI+TKI combinations. Higher rates of radiographic response in intact-Rmass were seen in patients treated with ICI in 1st-line compared to 2nd-line, possibly related to higher usage of ICI combinations (ipilimumab/nivolumab) in 1st-line. Insights into Barriers and Educational Needs for Farm Succession Programming

Planning for farm succession is vital to the longevity of the farm business. To understand the challenges with succession planning, the University of Wisconsin - Division of Extension facilitated focus group meetings across the state. These authors classified the information from the focus groups into eight codes, and each code was further subdivided into themes. The codes included Financial, Communication, Control, Change, Fair vs. Equal, Delivery, and Support, Strategies, and Educational Needs. University of Wisconsin Division of Extension Agriculture Educators utilized the information obtained from the focus groups to create a workbook that provides practical assistance when working with families planning a farm succession.

Bibliometric Analysis of Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) Research Publications from Horticulture Category Based on the Web of Science

Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is an economically important vegetable crop that is cultivated worldwide. The current study aimed to identify and analyze the 2030 articles and review article about cucumber research from the horticulture category of the VOS viewer Web of Science. Bibliometric data were analyzed by bibliometric science mapping and visualization tools. Articles mainly written in English (1884; 92.81%) were from 5630 authors, 80 countries or territories, and 1094 organizations; they were published in 46 journals and book series. The top five core journals are Scientia Horticulturae (337; 16.60%), HortScience (265; 13.05%), Journal of the American Society for Horticultural Science (239; 11.77%), European Journal of Plant Pathology (195; 9.61%), and Horticulture Journal (Journal of the Japanese Society for Horticultural Science) (157; 7.73%). These journals each published more than 157 articles. The top five countries and regions were the United States, People’s Republic of China, Japan, South Korea, and India. The top five organizations were the University of Wisconsin, North Carolina State University, U.S. Department of Agriculture–Agricultural Research Service, Michigan State University, and Nanjing Agricultural University. The top five authors are Todd C. Wehner (Wehner, TC), Jack E. Staub (Staub, JE), Yiqun Weng, R.L. Lower, and S. Tachibana; each published more than 24 articles. All keywords used for cucumber research in the horticulture category were separated into eight clusters for different research topics. Visualizations offer exploratory information regarding the current state in a scientific field or discipline as well as indicate possible developments in the future. This review could be a valuable guide for designing future studies.
