This study focuses on the recent fall of many large scale department stores (Macy’s, J. C. Penney Company, Sear’s, Kmart) and other retail, pharmacy and grocery stores (Bebe, Whole Foods, CVS, Chico’s, Limited, Radio Shack, Game Stop) across the United States. The researchers set out to discover why stores that have existed for years suddenly had to shut down physical locations. The researchers hypothesized that these retail outlets have failed to properly attract millennial consumers. Marketers are endlessly attempting to find solutions on how to best attract millennials in this digital age. What appears to be evident, though, is that the habits of this demographic prefer the ease provided by online shopping. Secondary sources were reviewed to determine exactly why the stores have fallen. The millennial culture was a key component of the study. The results suggest that the stores failed due to improper targeting and in-store attraction.

The SPARK-80 Computerized Mathematics System1 was evaluated using children with learning disabilities. The computerized instruction group (n = 12) received 40 minutes per day of SPARK-80 instruction at Radio Shack terminals, whereas the resource instruction group (n = 9) received traditional resource room mathematics instruction from experienced teachers for 40 minutes per day. Mid-year assessment produced significantly greater results for the computerized instruction group compared to the resource instruction group in terms of number of math skills mastered and fluency of problem solving. Moreover, compared to the resource instruction group, the computerized instruction sample produced over twice the yearly gains in achievement and in number of math skills learned. Results were statistically significant at the .05 level.

SUMMARYThis paper describes a project that addressed teaching a miniature robotic manipulator to play chess. This task was accomplished by interfacing a Microbot Minimover 5 robot and its Radio Shack TRS-80 control computer to a set of chessboard contacts and a Fidelity Electronics Chess Challenger 7 microcomputer. An extensive control program and interface circuitry were designed to enable each of the major components of the system to electronically communicate with one another.

This paper describes the interfacing and programming of a Radio Shack TRS-80 Model III microcomputer and the DIGI-MlC, one of the newest automated annual ring measurement systems to come on the market since introduction of the ADDO-X. The combined equipment allows rapid and straightforward measurement, storage, reviewing, editing and analysis of increment data. Hardware, software, and procedures are discussed and basic technical information is provided. Questions of reliability, quality and manufacturer support are addressed. Keywords: TRS-80, microcomputer application, stem analysis, measurement
