This study was started by extraction of Eucalyptus deglupta Blume. Using organic solvent   (n-hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol and water) followed by phytochemical screening and toxicity test using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. Isolation and identification of chemical compounds contained in the fraction were done by column chromatography and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids and phenolics in the extract. Toxicity test results showed that the ethyl acetate extract was potentially active with LC50 value of  617.95 ppm. The extract was continued to isolation stage and gave fraction EKEA-3.1 with LC50 value of 2759.93 ppm. Identification of chemical compounds in EKEA-3.1 with KG-MS analysis showed that EKEA-3.1 was suspected to be Stigmastan-3,5-diene.

Objective: This study is designed to hunt for the presence of bioactive compounds from three marine sponges collected from Kovalam.Methods: Zoochemical analysis is performed to screen for the presence of secondary metabolites. Based on those results, only two sponges which showed a significant presence of secondary metabolites has been subjected to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis to identify the unknown chemical compounds present in those sponges.Results: On analyzing the results, two sponges, namely, Dysidea herbacea and Sigmadocia pumila, has shown a significant presence of secondary metabolites while the third sponge Acanthella elongata have shown moderate presence of secondary metabolites. Since the first two sponges results are remarkable, these two samples have been subjected to GC-MS analysis to separate and identify the unknown chemical compounds present in the sample.Conclusion: Samples, namely, D. herbacea and S. pumila, indicated the presence of several components. From both the sponges, eleven different secondary metabolites were identified by GC-MS. Most of these compounds are widely used in cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and other industries and therefore a vital source for industrial biotechnology and related products in healthcare and skincare.Keywords: Dysidea herbacea, Sigmadocia pumila, Acanthella elongata, Secondary metabolites, Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis, Bioactive compounds.

The pharmacological effects of medicinal plants are due to the presence of certain chemical compounds present in them. Previous studies have shown that crude extracts of Tapinanthus bangwensis ( T. bangwensis) possess hepatocurative potential. However, the present study aims on evaluating the antioxidant activity as well as identifying the chemical compounds in ethylacetate fraction of T. bangwensis that ameliorate carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatotoxicity in Wistar rats. Six subfractions of ethylacetate fraction were obtained by column chromatography. The antioxidant activity was determined by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazine (DPPH), biochemical assay determined by spectrophotometry, and compound elucidation by liquid chromatography–mass spectroscopy (LC-MS) analysis. The DPPH result shows that subfraction F0 exhibited the strongest antioxidant activity followed by F4 while F1 exhibited the lowest. Oral administration of 100 mg/kg body weight of the subfractions of ethylacetate fraction of T. bangwensis increases superoxide dismutase and catalase activities and also glutathione level and decreases malondialdehyde level compared to the positive control group. Subsequently, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, total bilirubin, and conjugated bilirubin were reduced while albumin and total protein levels increased compared to the positive control group. However, there were no significant differences between the positive control group and the group induced and treated with the subfractions at p < 0.05. The histopathology study shows normal hepatocyte distribution with no fat deposit in the induced and treated groups while fatty liver was observed in the positive group. The anti-hepatotoxic effect was higher in F4 than in other subfraction treated groups. Hence, the LC-MS analysis of F4 reveals the presence of 8-hydroxyluteolin-8-glucoside, Avicularin, Fisetin-7-glucoside, Isoscutellarein-7-xyloside, and Isovitexin, respectively, and has been reported to exhibit antioxidant and hepatocurative activities. It can be concluded that the hepatocurative effect could be due to the chemical compounds identified above.

The present study was aimed to analysis of bioactive constituents of leaves from the Pleiospermium alatum (Rutaceae). The methanol extract of the leaves were subjected to Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and Gas chromatography- mass spectroscopic (GC-MS) analysis. GC-MS analysis of plant extract was performed using a Perkin-Elmer GC Clarus 500 system and Interpretation on mass spectrum GC-MS was conducted using the database of National Institute Standard and Technology (NIST) and IR spectrum was recorded in spectrophotometer (Thermo Scientific NICOLET-iS5). FT-IR analysis of peak values with various functional compounds such as amizone, alcohol, phenol, alkanes, protein, enzyme, alkanes, isopropyl. GC-MS analysis of compounds with totally, thirty compounds major chemical compounds were identified, such as 5- Thio-D-glucose, 5-Allylsulfanyl-1-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-1H-tetrazole, E)-10-Heptadecen-8-ynoicacid methyl ester and Z-11-Hexadecenoic acid. The present results concluded that the phytochemicals was observed in methanol extract which revealed that the P. alatum is potential use in different fields namely medical and pharmaceuticals and highly valuable in medicinal usage for the treatment of various human aliments.

Buah Makasar [Brucea javanica (L) Merr] is one of the local plants in Lombok Island that is traditionally used for diabetic medication. The purpose of this research was to identify the chemical constituents containing in methanol leaves and seed extract of Buah Makasar. The methods used were phytochemical screening for some groups of chemical compounds and GC-MS analysis. The result of phytochemical screening showed that methanol extract of B. javanica seed contains alkaloids, terpenoids, and tannin with a high intensity; while the leaves extract contains alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, tannin, and saponin. The differences of chemical compositions in the leaves and seed extract may give them have different bioactivities. GC-MS analysis showed some fatty acids containing in the seed extract such as stearic acid and palmitic acid.

The rhizosphere of plant possesses important microflora, which secretes wide chemical compounds including secondary metabolites necessary for plant growth and development. The microbial flora of alfalfa plant rhizosphere soil region was explored for functional activity and we found upto ten different pigmented colonies. Due to good functional diversity, this yellow pigmented colony was taken for further studies. Thus, the culture was molecularly characterized and identified for potent bioactive components responsible for antimicrobial activity. The selected culture mass was cultured and secondary metabolites were produced and extracted using ethyl acetate and subjected to GC-MS analysis. The antimicrobial study revealed selective activity against Streptococcus pneumonia, and Proteus sp with zone of inhibition to be 18 and 20 mm respectively.  Molecular identification of the isolate by 16S rRNA sequencing showed the isolate as Macrococcus equipercicus with 100 % similarity. Based on GC-MS analysis report 25bioactive compounds were identified and 13-docosenamide, hexadecanoic acid esters and quercetin were found in ethyl acetate extract. Conclusion: Thus the yellow pigmented gram positive cocci M.equipercicus isolated from Medicago sativa possessed wide antibacterial activity due to presence of quercetin. Through the studies, we were able to identify potent antibacterial compound producing bacteria from M. sativa plant rhizosphere soil.

 Giant forest ant Dinomyrmex gigas is one of the largest ants species in the world, native to the rain forests of Southeast Asia. It is known that ants have glands that produce chemical compounds that inhibit the growth of microbes. Therefore, it is necessary to deter-mine the antioxidant and antibacterial activities as well as identify the chemical compounds of D. gigas extract. D. gigas was extracted successively with n-hexane, ethanol and methanol. The antioxidant activity was evaluated by determination of the half-maximal inhibi-tory concentration (IC50) values while the antibacterial activities of the extracts were determined by measuring the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). The results exhibited that the IC50 values of n-hexane, ethanolic and methanolic extracts were 336.18±0.0984, 89.16±0.0219 and 90.72±0.0894 μg/mL respectively. The ethanolic extract exhibited the highest AAI value (0.34) followed by metha-nolic extract (0.33) and n-hexane extract (0.09). Based on AAI val-ues, the extracts were classified as moderate antioxidants. The best MIC values were 625 μg/mL for both ethanolic and methanolic ex-tracts against S. aureus, while MIC values of all extracts against E. coli were >625 μg/mL. Based on MIC values, all of the extracts presented weak activity against both S. aureus and E.coli. The GC-MS analysis showed that there are up to 30 compounds construct-ed of the ethanolic extract. Three major compounds are ethyl oleate  (29.78%), n-hexadecanoic acid (17.54%) and oleic acid (10.65%).
