<p><strong>Objectives: </strong>This paper sought to understand and determine the cytotoxic’s effects of crude extract and its fraction from <em>Calotropis gigantea</em> leaves on human colon cancer WiDr cell lines.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>The ethanolic extract was fractionated gradually with certain substances to yield four fractions. The substances were dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and butanol. The four fractions resulted in dichloromethane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, butanol fraction, and a water fraction. These fractions were then investigated for their cytotoxic effects on WiDr cells. The cell viability was assessed using MTT colorimetric assay.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The result indicated that the cytotoxic effects of the ethanolic extract (IC<sub>50</sub>48.5 μg/ml), ethyl acetate fraction (IC<sub>50</sub>41.79 μg/ml), and dichloromethane fraction (IC<sub>50</sub>40.57μg/ml) produced a much more potent effect than the butanol fraction (IC<sub>50</sub> 737.74 μg/ml) and water fraction (IC<sub>50</sub>8493 μg/ml).</p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>The ethanolic extract, ethyl acetate fraction and dichloromethane fraction exhibited a potent cytotoxic effect on human colon cancer WiDr cell line. The crude extract and fractions are potential to be developed as an anticancer agent in colon cancer therapy.</p>

Conocarpus erectus L. is a perennial, evergreen shrub belonging to Combretaceae family. Conocarpus plant reported to contain phenolic acid, flavonoids, lignan, terpenes and tannins. Aim of study was to isolate lupeol from hexane fraction and gallic acid from ethyl acetate fraction and investigate the effects of (hexane and ethyl acetate) fractions on viability of pancreatic AsPC-1 and breast MCF-7 cell lines by MTT assay. The presence of lupeol in the hexane and gallic acid in the ethyl acetate extracts was detected by TLC. The identification of isolated lupeol and gallic acid by HPTLC and HPLC comparing with standard lupeol and gallic acid. Structural elucidation of isolated compounds done by FTIR and UV spectrophotometer. The cytotoxic activity showed more at high concentration (30µg/ml) in both ethyl acetate and hexane fractions against MCF-7 cell line, the percentage of cellular inhibition for ethyl acetate at 30mg/ml was (73% and 79%) more than the hexane fraction in which the inhibition was (60% and 76%) at 48hr and 72 hr respectively. Furthermore, the cytotoxic activity more at high concentration (30µg/ml) in both fractions against AsPC-1 cell line with cellular inhibition (58% and 70%) for ethyl acetate fraction and (50% and 66%) for hexane fraction in compared with Cisplatin.

The antibacterial activity of methanol extract from the root bark of Akanda (Calotropis gigantea L.) and its petroleum ether, chloroform and ethyl acetate fractions were investigated. Both of methanol extract and its chloroform fraction showed activity against Sarcina lutea, Bacillus megaterium and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Petroleum ether fraction showed activity against Bacillus subtilis and Shigella sonnei whereas ethyl acetate fraction showed activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli at 20ìg/disc, 30ìg/disc and 40ìg/disc doses. Among the tested materials, methanol extract and its chloroform fraction showed comparatively better results. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for methanol extract and each fraction were also determined by serial dilution technique.   Objective: To explore the anticancer activity of the flowers of Argemone mexicana L. against the human hepatoma cell line (HepG2).Methods: In vitro anticancer activity was carried out to screen cytotoxicity effectiveness of the solid obtained from ethyl acetate fraction of A. mexicana L. flower extract at different concentrations against the HepG2 cell line. The MTT (methylthiazolyl diphenyl- tetrazolium bromide) assay for cell viability and markers is expected to confirm the cytotoxicity.Result: Ethyl acetate fraction from the flower extract of A. mexicana L. was tested for its anticancer activity against HepG2 cell lines (liver cancer) at various concentrations by MTT assay. It was confirmed that the IC50 value of this sample was 72±1.7 μg/ml against liver cancer HepG2 cell line.Conclusions: A. mexicana L. is a potential plant with anticancer activity. The isolation of the pure compounds and determination of the structure of individual compounds will be further performed.

This study aims to evaluate the antipyretic activity of Calotropis gigantea (CG), Vernonia cinerea (VC), and Cissampelos pareira (CP)extracts. Rabbits were received an intravenous lipopolysaccharide (LPS) after being orally administered with the plant extracts or paracetamol, a reference drug. The treatment of CG and VC ethanolic extract (125 and 250 mg/kg) and paracetamol (150 mg/kg) significantly reduced LPS-induced pyrexia. Moreover, ethyl acetate fraction (50 mg/kg) of CG showed a more significant effect in lowering the hyperthermia than dichloromethane, n-butanol fraction, or water residue. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that CG and VC ethanolic extract possess antipyretic activity. Besides, the components in the ethyl acetate fraction of CG play an important role in the antipyretic property of this herb
