Abstract: Current trends in Arts Education decisively incorporate the management of the image. Photography, video, film, video games, ICT, and audiovisual in general, are part of a wide and diverse network of possibilities for the creation and dissemination of images. Teachers of arts education are using images in different ways, and what we need is to promote research on these new uses of the image in the educational field of the arts. When we talk about image we do not only refer to the uses of ICT by students and teachers, but we are talking about the possibility of investigating from the own image, with the images, as you demonstrate the tendencies of the A / R / Tography (Irwin and O'Donoghue, 2012), ABR Arts Based Research (Rose, 2016) and ABER Arts Based Educational Research (Rolling, 2017). Thus, we must pay attention to all new research models in which the image is part of the possibilities of inquiry and scientific justification in the field of art and education (Hernández, 2013). This article discusses the important scholarly contributions to our understandings of creativity, education, and the arts. I describe many important contributions, beginning with Dr. Ellen Winner’s foundational studies of child development and the arts in the 1970s and 1980s. I identify several common themes throughout her career. First, I characterize her work as problem finding in nature—exploring new areas and identifying promising new research questions. Second, I discuss the interdisciplinary nature of her work—describing the broad range of empirical studies she has conducted, not only in the arts but also topics ranging from dyslexia to wisdom later in life. Third, I summarize her important contributions to our empirical understandings of the benefits of arts education. Finally, I describe the deeply collaborative nature of her work, noting students and colleagues that she has published with.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to consider the dynamics of submitting arts-based research in a climate that is dominated, in the UK, by the social sciences. Design/methodology/approach – It begins by taking a view on arts-based research, considering mainly Eisner and Dewey but exploring the possibilities of other forms such as baroque research. It goes on to look at some examples of arts-based research that has been carried out, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. The authors conclude by saying that interdisciplinary research, while being encouraged by research councils, is also made more difficult by these same research councils’ funding structures. Findings – The authors consider that this has an effect on defining what educational research is and could be. The authors argue that this is important not only in relation to the range of disciplinary perspectives that can be drawn upon within educational settings, for example, the need to engage with disciplines such as English, History, Philosophy, Music and Fine Art, but also in relation to methodological understandings of how research should be conducted within educational settings. Originality/value – The research studies are arts based but with an original educational orientation.

Concerns are raised regarding the place of the arts in education, specifically as they are used in the social science context of educational research under the title ‘arts-based research’. An examination of Elliot Eisner’s claim that art is research concludes that, though the arts may be used for display, data, or heuristic in educational research, they are not being recognised for their distinctive characteristics. John White’s critique of the theory of multiple intelligences is revisited to mitigate common claims for the arts based upon Gardner. Given the dominance of scientism in today’s research climate, it is argued that the arts take their rightful place as foil to research in its quest for certainty; that they be the antagonist mode of thought called for by John Stuart Mill.

Artes visuales. Investigación artística. Universidad. Martínez Castañeda, María del Carmen Rossette Ramírez, Carlos Romualdo Piedad, Rubén Cerrillo García and María Luisa Gámez Tolentino (all from FAD, UNAM, Mexico). Daniel Montero Fayad (IIE, UNAM, Mexico) and Gabriela Piñero (UNICEN, Argentina). We are a research group for education from, to and for the arts and even when we belong mostly to the same Faculty, we are different profiles and we do dissimilar things all the time. So to make this text of multiple perspectives and collaborative, also involved a balance of our own work. Thus, this balance translates into an exhibition as a group, the processes that made each activity possible and the observations of its results, in the form of general assumptions that will underpin the strengthening of second stages and the formation of an Educational Research idea related to the Concept of Artistic Research that is necessary in a Faculty of Arts and Design. Also, the formation of this text was based on the concept of an Exquisite corpse, to show it outwards and show us inwards (from the same ICDAC), with the purpose of facilitating an observation from the particular experience of this group and its theorization for the classrooms in arts. Abstract: The new digital scenario generates challenges that encourage us to reflect on the possibilities of Artistic Education in a historical moment in which we combine conventional educational moments with new online trends. Image technologies are one of our best allies as teachers. We have been incorporating them into the arts classroom for a long time. In this issue of the journal EARI we present a dossier on “Cinema and Art Education”. Both photography and the moving image have experienced an incredible technological development among as many users as we live together on the planet. Mobile technologies and new concepts for digital uses are being incorporating into all dimensions of our lives, so that we can no longer remain oblivious to this educational and artistic urgency. From the CREARI group we have been fully involved in the organization of the First International Conference of Digital Humanities and Cultural Pedagogies, to advance in the search for academic possibilities in a world where video games, television series, music videos and music trends Digital art are leading complex and tremendously attractive processes. We consider that game and adventure are a natural part of our rebellion. We cannot continue without addressing the new practices and habits of citizenship.  Keywords: Art, Art Education, Research, Teachers Training, Digital Humanities.   DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.7203/eari.10.16111

Abstract: This article presents an artistic experience in ten secondary schools of L'Horta Nord and Camp de Morvedre (València) on the processes of construction of personal identities through contemporary artistic attitudes, in this case, through video art. Using the Arts Based Educational Research (Arts Based Educational Research), the completion and subsequent interpretative analysis of all the videographic productions based on the traditional self-portrait have been completed, therefore, they have shaped very interesting results that lead us to reflect on the use and development of these new contemporary genres within the area of artistic education of educational centers. Within this investigation the creation of the new audiovisual narratives as artistic language in the school environment encompasses great relevance. We consider the use of video as a vehicle for the creation of images that at the same time works as an essential work tool for reflection, inquiry and analysis. It is also constituted as a procedure to question and criticize the systematic image.   Keywords: audiovisual narrative, self-portrait, identity, artistic education, secondary education.   DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.7203/eari.10.14331

The article considers the model of development of modern megacities and substantiates the need for the formation of a polycentric structure of the spatial development of agglomerations. The current trends in the placement of educational, research, innovation, business and shopping and entertainment functions for the development of the agglomeration territory are analyzed, the structure of the risks of implementing a polycentric model of the development of the St. Petersburg agglomeration and the directions of their leveling and overcoming are proposed. As the most important driver for the polycentric development of the St. Petersburg agglomeration, the author highlights the creation of places of employment, both in the production and post-industrial spheres – the service economy and the knowledge economy, the IT sector.
