Within most successful sales organizations there is a corps of hard-working salesmen who have an effective contact with the customers. The National Council's tremendous growth in membership, sales of publications, and at tendance at meetings is also due to a large extent to the corps of state representatives throughout the United States and in Canada. These representatives announce meetings, promote and sell publications, work to increase membership, gather information for the National Council, and perform many other tasks as needed.

Editorial board members of the MTE journal join the presidents of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE) and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) (the two organizations that jointly publish our journal) in expressing concern at the recent attacks on mathematics education scholars whose research does not conform with and challenges dominant perspectives in mathematics education. We are compelled to speak up because these attacks undermine the principles of academic freedom and our field's capacity to grow a trusted knowledge base.

Affiliation is looking up! Reports from groups all over the country indicate great activity in the direction of the establishment of well organized state groups of teachers of mathematics. The numerous letters received show a definite and active interest on the part of leaders to effect sound and working organizations. I have seen copies of constitutions of newly organized groups and revised constitutions of older groups.
