The purpose of education is to help the individual better to meet both present and future life situations. The process by which this purpose is realized continues throughout life and the means of education includes every phase of our environment which tends to modify the way in which we react to a given situation. Clearly the school is only one of the means of education. Within the school various forms of student activity are rightfully assuming an ever increasing importance, but at present most teachers look upon the recitation as the most important educative factor in the school. The function of the recitation seems to be to pass on to the next generation an accumulation of experience which school authorities believe to be essential to the welfare of society and in so doing to develop certain desirable abilities and capacities in the individual. Unfortunately in our attempt to realize this function we have separated our subject matter from its useful relationships and in the child’s mind it is a mass of material almost wholly unrelated to the world in which he lives, and our very attempts have defeated our purpose. This paper discusses certain fundamental principles which will compel a closer relationship between mathematics and out-of-school life and will therefore make the recitation a more effective means of renlizing the aim of education.

AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap kiprah dan pemikiran dari salah seorang ulama terkemuka yang berasal dari Lampung, yaitu H.M. Arief Mahya. Ulama Lampung kelahiran Gedungasin Liwa 6 Juni 1926 ini adalah saksi dari peralihan kolonialisme ke zaman revolusi kemerdekaan, terus berlanjut ke masa pembangunan dan reformasi. Penelitian ini mempergunakan metode sejarah yang terdiri dari heuristik, kritik, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Hasil penelitianmemperlihatkan bahwa H.M. Arief Mahya bukan hanya ulama yang mengembangkan dakwah di kalangan umat, namun juga pendidik yang telah melahirkan generasiLampung berikutnya. Selain itu, ia turut berjuang dalam upaya mempertahankan kemerdekaan. Ia pernah menjadi pimpinan Hizbullah melawan kolonialisme yang hendak merebut kemerdekaan. Selain berjuang secara fisik, ia juga mencurahkan pemikiran melalui media publik, seperti surat kabar. Ciri pokok dari tokoh Lampung ini adalah konsistensinya untuk terus berjuang di jalan yang diyakininya. Betapapun dunia sudah berubah dan terjadi krisis nilai, ia terus istiqomah melanjutkan kiprahnya mendidik umat. AbstractThis study aims to reveal the gait and the thought of one of the leading scholars from Lampung, namely KH M. Arief Mahya. Theologian Lampung who was born at Gedungasin Liwa on June 6, 1926 is the witness of the transition era of colonialism to independence revolution and continues to the development and reformation era. This study uses historical method consists of heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results showed that KH M. Arief Mahya was not only a scholar who developed the message among the people, but also an educator who had bridged to the next generation of Lampung. In addition, he participated in the effort tomaintain the independence struggle. He was once the leader of Hizbullah against colonialism who want to snatch the independence. Besides physically struggling, he also devoted ideas through public media, such as newspapers. The main characteristic of this Lampung figure was the consistency to keep fighting in the way he believed. No matter how the world has changed and there was a crisis of value, he persistently continued to educate people.

One of the most pervasive problems in theoretical ethics has been the attempt to reconcile the good for the individual with the good for all. It is a problem which appears in contemporary discussions (like those initiated by Alasdair MacIntyre in After Virtue) as a debate between emotivism and rationalism, and in more traditional debates between relativism and absolutism. I believe that a vital cause of this difficulty arises from a failure to ground ethics in metaphysics. It is crucial, it seems to me, to begin with "the way the world is" before we begin to speculate about the way it ought to be. And, the most significant "way the world is" for ethics is that it is individuals in community. This paper attempts to develop an ethical theory based solidly on Whitehead’s metaphysics, and to address precisely the problem of the relation between the good for the individual and the common good, in such a way as to be sympathetic to both.

You have turned the page, and thus have already opened a door.A door to the text.A text about doors.Or, to be more precise, about the recurrence of doors and their function in Sophocles and Racine.Our purpose in focusing on plays in which the door or gate has a significant role for the individual and his being-in-the-world is to delineate the passageway which leads the tragic character to a boundary situation and, from there, to a possible transgression of that situation. That which is on each side of the door, the spaces created by the thresholds, will thus help locate the place of the tragic event. This spatialization of the tragic event as the transgressing of a boundary situation is emphasized by the way in which both Sophocles and Racine determine the parameters of the action as it is structured within a specific space.

Queer immanence in Who is? Woyzeck: The technocentric utopia of the master and the slaveMontažstroj’s Who is? Woyzeck is a performative history about individuals’ open wounds that will probably never heal, especially in the context of technodemocracy and liberal deprivation processes. Woyzeck is a Georg Büchner hero whose voice is not able to be heard. He is deprived, deprivileged, and his behavior/labor is socially unacceptable. He is devoid of humanity, turned into an animal, pure zoe, and thus treated like one by the system. Montažstroj’s project was, therefore, eager to explore the politics of power where the individual is subdued to numerous forms of violence and the way these violent acts resonate on the surface of human intimacy. The rhythmic changing of scenes depicted social coercion and private agony; the play questioned the world of isolated and lonely individuals. Woyzeck was presented as a pure phenomenon, as an individual trapped in a Hegelian master-slave relation, thus as a non-person whose body is being occupied and used in a specific situation of violence, love, betrayal, jealousy and murder, with no way out. The performance of two men and a woman on a stage, which is supposed to function as a specific community of life, bombarded with techno and rave music, together with pure channels of associations derived from various sources, primarily from Büchner's text, which was written in 1836, is thus analyzed as a deconstructive and multi-layered re-inscription of political and discursive regimes subdued by frenetic music samples. Immanencja queer w Who is? Woyzeck jest pozbawiony cech ludzkich, zamieniony w zwierzę, czyste zoe, a co za tym idzie jest traktowany przez system jak zwierzę. Celem omawianego projektu grupy Montažstroj było zbadanie polityki władzy, w której jednostka jest poddana licznym formom przemocy, a także sposobów, w jakie te akty przemocy rezonują na powierzchni ludzkiej intymności. Rytmiczna zmiana scen ilustruje społeczny przymus i prywatną agonię, sztuka bada świat zamieszkany przez wyizolowane i samotne jednostki. Woyzeck został zaprezentowany jako czyste zjawisko, jednostka uwięziona w Heglowskiej relacji „pana i niewolnika”, a więc jako nie-osoba, której ciało jest zawłaszczane i używane w konkretnej sytuacji przemocy, miłości, zdrady, zazdrości i morderstwa, bez możliwości ucieczki. Performans dwóch mężczyzn i kobiety na scenie, który ma prezentować specyficzną wspólnotę życia, bombardowany muzyką techno i rave, wzbogacony czystymi strumieniami skojarzeń wywodzącymi się z różnych źródeł (przede wszystkim z napisanego w 1936 roku tekstu Georga Büchnera), jest analizowany jako dekonstrukcyjna i wielowarstwowa re-inskrypcja politycznych i dyskursywnych reżimów podporządkowanych frenetycznym próbkom muzycznym.

Meaning is a uniquely human phenomenon. In linguistics, this subject matter is especially complex, considering the multiplicity of theoretical approaches and the variety of disciplinary fields that address the issue. A similar concern applies to the concept of reference, because, although most linguists today agree that meaning and reference form two different realities, the discussion about the relation between these two terms has not yet been fully examined. Cognitive Linguistics has made a great contribution to this discussion by recognizing that we cannot present the postulate of the existence of a level of meaning that belongs only to language and is distinct from the level at which the meaning of linguistic forms is associated with the knowledge of the world. The objective of this work is to show that, with Cognitive Linguistics, the ideas of meaning and reference are re-equated and have gained strength in the scope of linguistic studies reinforced by the concept of prototype. For such purpose this text describes the way these concepts have evolved based on their theorisation, paying particular attention to cognitive semantics, but not intending to make an exhaustive theoretical-methodological analysis of them.

Leadership style adopted by a leader in educational institutions, will mentukan atmosphere and climate in the next educational institutions also determine the effectiveness of health efforts in the purpose of education. Leadership is born with a process, not innate from birth to be able and trained to achieve the competence of leadership that berkulaitas, so that in the institutional education can achieve optimal effectiveness. The style of leadership is the way used in the leadership process that is implemented in a person's task to face each other for what he wants. There are two styles of leadership that is style of leadership style, leadership style, leadership style. Dakwaha leadership style is a leader who is able to bring society to success in the pleasure of Allah SWT. In this case the leader will always appear to achieve the benefit and welfare of his followers for the salvation of the life of the world and the hereafter. Thus the style seoarang da'wah leaders and education will not be separated from three things as a mentor, as a model and as a practitioner. Dakwah leadership style is a model and style of leadership with its own formulation.

Music's uses and contexts are so many and so various that the task of cataloguing its functions is daunting: how can we make sense of this diversity? These functions appear to range from the individual (music can affect the way we feel and the way we manage our lives) to the social (it can facilitate the coordination of large numbers of people and help to forge a sense of group identity). This article argues that musical behaviour covers a vast middle ground in which relationships between self and other or between the individual and the collective are played out. It surveys some of the extant literature on music's functions – referring to literature from ethnomusicology, anthropology, musicology, psychology, and sociology, and discussing a wide variety of musical contexts from around the world – and develops an argument emphasizing music's role in the management of relationships between self and other.

The purpose of the article is to identify the essence of dance as a means of assimilating the sociocultural experience of the individual. The methodology of the research is based on interdisciplinary and systematicity characterizing the culturological knowledge. The scientific novelty of the results obtained is to formulate the problem of dance in the cultural dimension and in finding out the essence of dance as a means of assimilating socio-cultural experience due to the socio-cultural orientation laid down, which contribute to the full comprehension of the world of culture. Conclusions. Correlation with the eternal foundations of the world and with the most modern innovations makes dance a kind of model of cultural processes. Being a non-verbal system, the language of art performs an indirect function, however, dance - non-national, universal in its linguistic characteristics - does not need translation and therefore is capable of performing a unifying function. The educational and therapeutic possibilities of dance are important in the process of including the individual in the system of social relations; dance is an effective means of overcoming human disunity, acting as a standard of deep orientation towards the surrounding people, and develops the harmony of social understanding deeply rooted in a person.
