This present paper, focused on root crop communities of light soils, is a part of the wide range characteristics of segetal communities of the Podlaski Przełom Bugu (Podlasie Bug River Gorge) mesoregion. On the basis of 160 phytosociological relevés made according to the Braun-Blanquet method, phytocenoses representing the Panico-Setarion alliance were distinguished. Most often, patches of the association Echinochloo-Setarietum were recorded in the study area. Heterogeneous habitat conditions affect its floristic diversity. Two subassociations of the phytocenosis, divided according to the species composition into 9 lower syntaxa, were identified on light soils. The following subassociations were distinguished: Echinochloo-Setarietum setarietosum glaucae in a typical variant and a variant with Juncus bufonius, both with subvariants with Digitaria ischaemum, as well as a typical variant of Echinochloo-Setarietum typicum, a variant with Juncus bufonius and a subvariant with Oxalis stricta in the typical and wet variant. Another association found in root crops on light soils of the Podlaski Przełom Bugu mesoregion is Digitarietum ischaemi. Its patches were observed in cultivations on light, acidic, poor soils. The characteristic feature of this community is the occurrence of numerous acidophilous species. In habitat conditions typical for the Podlaski Przełom Bugu mesoregion, Digitarietum ischaemi is differentiated into the typical and wet variant. Quite frequent patches of the Setaria pumila-Setaria viridis community were noted in intermediate habitat conditions, between those characteristic for Digitarietum ischaemi and Echinochloo-Setarietum.

A phytosociological classification and the characteristics of weed communities developing in root crops of the Kałuszyńska Upland are given in this paper. The presence of three associations: Digitarietum ischaemi, Echinochloo-Setarietum and Lamio-Veronicetum politae, as well as of two communities: Setaria pumila-Setaria viridis and Panico-Setarion alliance, has been found. The differentiation in trophic and soil moisture conditions of habitats results in the floristic diversity of communities, divided into lower phytosociological units. Two variants have been distinguished within the association Digitarietum ischaemi, whereas Echinochloo-Setarietum has been divided into 2 subassociations and 6 variants.

The research on the localities of Avena strigosa and on its increased occurrence in agricultural crops of the Podlaski Przełom Bugu was carried out in 1994-1998. The documentation of this research consists of 600 phytosociological relevés and the floristic records. The paper presents the composition and structure of the field plant communities where Avena strigosa was found. It occurs frequently on various soil types of the Podlaski Przełom Bugu. However, on the area examined it was found just in small numbers, covering up to 5% of the area, while in the eastern part of the area an increase in its occurrence was observed. In the area of the Podlaski Przełom Bugu Avena strigosa occurred in spring cereals in the communities of Arnoserido-Scleranthetum and Vicietum tetraspermae as well as in the poor field communities, with the character species of Aperion spicae-venti and Panico-Setarion. Additionally, Avena strigosa was also found in the field communities of root crops belonging to Panico-Setarion alliance; however, it was present there just in small numbers.

In the years 1973-1978 floristic and phytosociological investigations were performed on field cultures on rendzina soils near Sieradz, by the middle part of the Warta river. The mosaic character of the soil of the investigated area on which segetal communities had developed and the continuous interference of a man (an anthropogenic factor) cause a large diversity in the examined area. Altogether in grain and root crop cultures there were distinguished 5 associations, 6 communities and many lower phytosociological units (subcommunities, facies and degree of moisture). Among the distinguished units of vegetation Caucalido-Scandicetum and communities with intermediate structure deserve particular attention. The association has an impoverished structure, only partly developed, which is probably due to the northern limit of the range of occurrence, habitat conditions (mainly edaphic) and the level of agriculture.

Floristic research on segetal communities was carried out in 2000 on arable fields in the Skierbieszów Landscape Park and its protected zone. Three communities of segetal weeds in cereal crops, and two communities of segetal weeds in root crops were separated in the arable fields of the Skierbieszów Landscape Park. The community Vicietum tetraspermae typicum commonly occurred in cereal crops on brown soils developed from loess soils. The community Echinochloo-Setarietum, which belongs to root crops, was noted in the same habitat. The greatest richness of species was found in Consolido-Brometum and Lamio Veronicetum politae, with the average of 25 species in one record. Both communities were abundant in rare segetal species which are considered to be endangered in our country: Adonis aestivalis, Euphorbia exigua, Lathyrus tuberosus, Muscari comosum, Thlaspi perfoliatum, Veronica polita, Agrostemma githago.

The paper describes the floristic diversity and specifies its use value in terms of feeding preferences of konik polski horses and their consumption of permanent grassland in a section of the Wieprz river valley in Roztocze National Park. The flora assessment was conducted by analyzing 79 phytosociological relevés using the Braun-Blanquet method. The results of phytosociological surveys made it possible to distinguish 7 complexes in the Phragmitetea class, 5 complexes and 1 plant community in the Molinio-Arrhenatheretea class, and 1 complex in the Nardo-Callunetea class. Natural values of the examined associations were described based on the total and average number of species in a phytosociological relevé, the Shannon-Wiener index, and the phytosociological structure of plant communities. The use value of dry weight of the analyzed meadows and pastures was estimated by means of the use value number (UVN) and taking into account the and yield size. The phytocoenoses identified in the meadows in the section of the Wieprz river valley under study exhibited high natural values (H’ = 3.20–4.62). The dry weight yields of the examined communities varied (from 1.32 to 5.37 t ha–1), but their sward usually had poor and very poor use value (UVN = from –0.55 to 5.8). Furthermore, it should be noted that the sward of wet meadows is readily consumed by the grazing animals, which contributes to the improvement of the natural and use value of meadows.

The investigations of meadow and pasture fallows in Czyrnianka catchment area, during vegetative season of year 2002, were carried out. The purposes of these investigations were qualifications of plant communities, characterisation of their habitat conditions and making habitats for constant protection. 53 phytosociological relevés by classic Braun-Blanquet method were performed and taken under numerical classification. As a result of classification the types of Gladiolo-Agrostietum and Epilo bio-Juncetum associations and Cirsium arvense-Agropyron repens community were originated. For characterisation of habitat conditions the indicator values by Ellenberg were used. The Detrendent Correspondence Analysis showed that moisture was responsible for differentiation of community composition. A dry variant Gladiolo-Agrostetum association, which contains species characteristic for xerothermical grasslands, is the most interesting from botanical point of view. This community is also protection worth.

Green revolution started at mid of twentieth century was the answer of anxiousness reminded by Malthusian that food scarcity problems in relation with population growth. In concurrence with exploitation of fossil fuel for agriculture mechanization as well as agrochemicals in the form of inorganic fertilizer and pesticide, green revolution by introducing high yielding varieties of cereals and grains was able to nourish the world population by increasing productivity. Indeed, from beginning of mechanization with fossil fuel based as advised by Rudolf Diesel then Arrhenius would be affected to the release of CO2 to the atmosphere and consequently exaggerating climate change as suffered by current and future generations. Under green revolution based on cereals and grains affected forest conversion into open agricultural land, because both commodities are sun-loving crops, which are hate to the shade. On the other hand, to slow the severity of climate change natural forest must be conserved tightly. Entering third millennium demand of food production with ecologically friendly is stronger. Hence, green revolution needs to be amended into greener perspectives. Thus, implementation of agro-forestry into wide range of agro-ecological zone is urgently innovated. Fortunately, shade tolerant of root crops has significant advantage to be developed under agro-forestry. Under shade of forest canopy at basal forest strata, root crops are able to sequester CO2 to be converted into carbohydrate and other compounds to provide food for the dweller. Back to nature is not only a slogan, with root crops under agro-forestry is a reality; fresh root up to 30 t ha-1 can be harvested yearly as the source of food and renewable fuel as well. This potential is very worthy to improve and greening the existing green revolution to be more sustainable.Int. J. Agril. Res. Innov. & Tech. 8 (1): 26-37, June, 2018

The aim of this study was to determine fruit yield of Oxycoccus palustris under the climatic and habitat conditions of northern Wielkopolska (the Greater Poland region), depending on the type of occupied plant community. Total fruit number and fruit weight as well as average cranberry leaf size were determined on 33 plots with an area of 1 m2, located on 7 peatlands. On the study areas, European cranberry produced crops from 9.2 up to 242.0 g m-2, which gives 92-2420 kg ha-1. It has been demonstrated that on the peatlands of northern Wielkopolska O. palustris reaches its generative and vegetative optimum in the communities of the class Scheuchzerio- Caricetea fuscae, in particular in the community Sphagno recurvi-Eriophoretum angustifolii.

Analysis of plant communities accompanying root crops on compact soils is presented in the paper. It is the next part of the review of plant communities of agrocenoses of the Podlaski Przełom Bugu (Podlasie Bug Gorge) mesoregion. The studied phytocoenoses were identified on the basis of 103 phytosociological relevés, made according to the Braun-Blanquet method. In the studied agrocenoses, plots of the associations Lamio-Veronicetum politae, Galinsogo-Setarietum and Oxalido-Chenopodietum polyspermi from the Polygono-Chenopodion polyspermi alliance were noted. Small patches of Lamio-Veronicetum and Oxalido-Chenopodietum were rarely noted in the studied area due to a small proportion of suitable habitats. In the area of Podlaski Przełom Bugu mesoregion, phytocoenoses of Oxalido-Chenopodietum developed in the river valleys on fertile muds and black soils. Typical plots of Galinsogo-Setarietum distinguishable by the mass occurrence of Galinsoga parviflora were only observed in the vicinity of farm buildings. Intermediate communities between Panico-Setarion and Polygono-Chenopodion polyspermi as well as phytocoenoces of Echinochloo-Setarietum typicum - subvariant with Veronica persica and Echinochloo-Setarietum fumarietosum - were also quite frequently noted in root crops on compact soils.
